Campbell picked up an illness in May and got progressively worse in the time since. It's a sad tale, regrettable and met with dismay, maybe you can't find the exact words, however time of passing during age of mid fifties is a tragic loss to the game and someone who not only were a class prolific player but all round nice guy away from the field. Couldn't ascertain at present time what illness the ex-player had but all the same it's a loss for many involved and this news was met with an incredulous sense they had made an error but regrettably the news item stands and all said it's a shame for what was a player and individual of considerable merit.
Campbell played a pivotal part in keeping Everton safe from a relegation at the end of the 1990's, without his signing the club may well have begun the 2000's as a Second League club name and for that alone I'll always be grateful. Without being selfish Campbell also featured in Turkey and played trade for clubs in West Midlands among others. Take the opportunity to pass on condolence to the immediate family, he were a real celebrated player, perhaps undervalued or didn't always get the recognition he could have rightfully claimed.
