Could belong to Scott Carson, he is a goalkeeper, he is 38 years old and he plays for Manchester City. He has played just TWO GAMES in the last FIVE SEASONS and is the third choice goalkeeper. Why do City have him in the squad?

The Premier League allows teams to have 25 players named in the squad, but 8 of them must have spent at least 3 years as a youth player in an English team. In order to comply with the regulations, City have filled that slot with Carson, developed at Leeds United since he was 15 years old...

In 2022, in the Champions League, against Sporting Lisbon, the veteran goalkeeper entered the field of play as a tribute and received a standing ovation from the entire crowd. That was his second game in a City shirt.

He gets £30,000 a week which means his yearly salary is £1.4m a year! 🤯

THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD. 😂👏🏻

It’s a funny one - great wages but you’d still have to train every day and be ready if needed, yet never get the buzz of playing…..seems a waste of a relatively short career.

This may also now become less common as a lot of older players may head or Saudi to finish out their career on very strong money.

Perhaps you missed the £1.4m a year bit  I'd sit in solitary confinement for a year for £1.4m, screw the buzz!

He's a lucky man, who was a 34 year old Championship player before moving to City in a similar way to our own Richard Wright. His buzz will be from training and being around a world leading squad/club, training with the best in the world, and I'm sure he's coaching and mentoring younger keepers too. I'd say that's pretty buzz heavy compared to being kicked about by talentless lumps in the lower leagues!

Some good counter points there.

Depends on the player I guess - you hear alot of players saying they’d play for free they just love the buzz of a match day etc.

I always thought the best job in the world was Henry Blofield's, always summer, get to visit nice places around the world and sit there watching cricket, presumably without getting too thirsty.

My youngest lad, when as a nipper we asked him what the best job was, said 'Rubbish Man', he'd figured out they only work once a week. Smart boy that.
