Re: January transfers
One more I think. The Godfrey one doesn’t count towards our quota of two (?), because he’s from overseas.

Seems a lot of money for him imo. Obviously KM really wanted him but just hope Villa haven’t done us over on this one.hallamblue wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 10:25 pmPhilogene update

Jaden Philogene to Ipswich Town, here we go! Despite important bid from Everton, #ITFC agree deal with Aston Villa for £21m with add-ons fee.
Understand Philogene is on his way to Ipswich right now. Medical on Thursday morning.
Direct call with McKenna was crucial.

Leicester points deduction announcement from Monday January 13th earliest 21:23 - Jan 8 with 1158 views MaySixth
according to The Athletic
in breach of PSR rules by £12m over a three year period
FA and Prem very annoyed with Leicester's successful exploitation of the jurisdiction loophole last time. Will come down hard on them.
Hopefully they will get 6 points.

Re: January transfers
Wow what a keeper Spurs have signed for £12.5m. Antonin Kinsky, only 21 yrs old, did anyone else see his debut performance tonight against Liverpool ? How much did we pay for Muric ?

Re: January transfers
How much can we now spend without getting into trouble, 21 million for philogene ,if it happens & the 100 million we spent in the summer, have we not gone over the limit? Can't see us getting 20 million for wolfy & Harry Clarke.

Re: January transfers
This is taken from TWTD hopefully that's correct.
They’re big numbers but we’re well funded, and cash isn’t a limiting factor, it’s just FFP. We’ll be ensuring a very high degree of governance over that though, and given all of these signings are on 4+ year deals we’re ‘only’ talking £40m of amortisation per year on £160m of signings on that basis. We’re likely to turnover £150m+ this year so I would think the headroom is healthy. Would almost certainly mean 2 or 3 big tickets move on in the summer if we go down despite parachute payments, but we would still be left with a really strong championship squad. 1 year of amortisation could probably be offset with a Liam Delap sale, where we’ll likely see a significant profit on disposal should we chose to cash in. The approach of signing young, British players significantly derisks it too, I don’t see us having an issue moving on any of these acquisitions should we choose to. They’ll have suitors even if we need to take a slight haircut on 1 or 2.

Re: January transfers
Nice dealings by Villa. THey obviously thought Philogene was too cheap at 18m and had their 30% built it.
They were right and now they are going to bag an additional 7 or 8 mill plus unknown add-ons.
Good business by them.
Have a feeling Philogene is going to where he wants to be too.
Great for us too.

We've really been done over with Muric, there's no getting away from it, and we can't say we weren't warned.

Re: January transfers
I hope the boy Philogene does want to be here cus things don't always sit well with me but more than happy to give the lad our full support. It does seem a fair whack of money but a lot of us felt that about Delap and Hutchinson too so maybe it's what you have to pay these days. I think this signing will see Wes Burns contribution greatly reduced.

Re: January transfers
I think it’s a brilliant signing although the size of the fee worries me a little with the FFP rules but hopefully we’re on top of that. I think the player always wanted to come to us but was misled by his Agent or tied by his loan contract to return to Villa if they exercised their options which they did. We also have to remember it was his boyhood club and the opportunity of Champions League football so even if he decided to go there I think it would be quite churlish to hold it against him.
He and Delap linked brilliantly together at Hull last season which will hopefully be restored.
Could Jack Clarke return to Sunderland, I think it could be a consideration or his game time is likely to be even less.

One thing is for sure, whatever our opinions are on certain signings McKenna has certainly received full backing from the ownership in terms of players he would like to recruit since arriving at the club.

It wouldnt surprise me to see a good proportion of the double winning side eventually leave us over the next two windows....

Re: January transfers
Interesting, 20m is alot and worries me it leaves the pot very low for any sort of striker.
We badly need cover for Delap, maybe they have a loan in mind or such.

Me too Shabba, I said the other day that after the last couple of games I feel we have a chance but if we don't sign another striker we will go down.

Re: January transfers
I would think we are certainly looking at the loan market for a striker now. As has already been said we need another striker as a backup for Delap as I really don’t think we can rely on Hirst due to his injury record. If we don’t get anybody in for that role then I just can’t see us staying up as Delap will probably miss some game time from now to the end of the season whether it be due to injury or suspension.

Re: January transfers
Even if Hirst was to stay fit which is debatable we still need another top striker, its simply not fair on Al-Hamadi to expect him to pull up trees at this level, we signed the poor bugger from L2, he's made a bigger jump than anyone and was due to go on loan in the summer.

Anyone seen rumours we've started preliminary talks with striker Iheanacho?
