EXCL: Ipswich Town are in talks to sign Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta!

Negotiations underway for the centre back who’s available on the market for this transfer window.

From Fabrizio Romano.

If it's from Romano it's almost certainly true, trying to recall what he's like

Ben Godfrey in advanced talks with #ITFC. Had interest from as many as eight clubs but impressed with Kieran McKenna. More on @talkSPORT.com

Right sided defender, either CB or RB, seems to fit the general area we are looking to strengthen

It looks like Ben Godfrey has only played one senior game so far this season, that means one appearance in 8 months so surely a little rusty and a shortage of match fitness. Is that really what we need for the challenge of the Premier League.

I wouldn’t want to see him go to anywhere near any of the relegation contenders, he’s far too dangerous a player for that. Personally I’d prefer he either comes to us or stays where he is.

Not good news for Harry Clarke or Ben Johnson although we might lose Tuanzebe in the summer,
The thing that's really annoying is that we missed out on signing Ashley Barnes from Norwich 🤭🤣 who has gone back to Burnley.

What is interesting to me is that Ancelotti, a truly elite coach and manager really liked him and picked him regularly. Where his career stalled is being under a meat and potatoes type manager like Dyche.

Re his best position I think, at this stage of his career, he probably needs to accept he may well be seen as a utility man- he's shown he can do a job in three or four different positions, even if he isn't elite at any of them.

Another player who seems to have struggled to get back to their best after a serious injury. Sad to see him and Buendia shadows of their forever selves. Wish we could rewind and enjoy that season played out in front of empty stadiums, what a team that was

A couple of bits from Scums forum before they found out it was Town who were in talks.
The injury was a broken leg .

Why would we lose Axel in the summer?

He is out of contact in the summer, I can't understand why nothing has been said by Town you would think they would have tried to get him to sign a new contract long before this injury.

Worth a try, but in my opinion those type of players will be hard to acquire in January.

Maybe Cajuste knows a giant Swedish striker who is looking to rejuvenate his career!

‘Liverpool have put a £30m price tag on Ben Doak after rejecting offers for the Scotland winger.

‘Doak has attracted interest from both Premier League and European clubs, with Crystal Palace reportedly making a £15m bid.

‘Liverpool have turned down offers out of hand and believe the 19-year-old can play for them in the future.

‘They are pleased with Doak’s progress on loan at Middlesbrough, where he has helped Michael Carrick’s side mount a promotion challenge, and are content to let him stay at the Riverside Stadium for the rest of the season.

‘Liverpool are conscious of the price other young wingers have commanded with Crysencio Summerville moving from Leeds to West Ham for £25m and Wilson Odobert joining Tottenham from Burnley for £25m and believe Doak is worth far more than £15m.’

Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports ‘Godfrey says goodbye’. It’s explained he’s stayed at home after Atalanta travelled to the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

The reason is to sort out his future, with Ipswich Town now ‘pressing’ to get a deal over the line. Gazzetta dello Sport report multiple Premier League clubs remains interested, but it’s Ipswich who are the most concrete option right now.

Things are expected to move quickly, with developments in the next few hours possible.

Someone saying that as well as Axel Wolfie and Burgess are out of contract in the summer surely we won't let all three to for nothing.

Ben Godfrey now a Town player. That'll pee off that lot up the A140 lol!

FWIW, I always thought he was a decent player when he played fir them. CB or RB, but VERY fast going forwards.

Wouldn't surprise me if we go after him. A loan deal is OK though isn't it.
