Here's a thought?
Town finish 18th and stay up? Bottom 2 relegated and Man City for their financial irregularities?

Re: Here's a thought?
IMO VERY slim chance city will go down, it would 'harm' the PL too much as a brand I suspect and they wouldn't want that.mendipblue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:18 amTown finish 18th and stay up? Bottom 2 relegated and Man City for their financial irregularities?![]()

I bet anyone that City won't even be punished.

Re: Here's a thought?
I'd take you up on that Mike. I think City will get a large points deduction ,the amount that would put them in danger of relegation and amongst the number of clubs fighting it. Of course they would appeal and with the money behind them, would be prepared to delay it as long as possible. But the informed articles I've read do seem to think that it boils down to three very serious offences that they will struggle to defend.

Re: Here's a thought?
Personally cant see an issue with them getting relegated.
I'm sure the EFL would love to have them, even for only one season and it would make for interesting viewing for as long as it lasts.
Premiership won't miss them either as it makes for a compelling season or two without them giving someone else the chance to take a dart at winning the title. You never know, even Arsenal might be able to get a title over the line if one of their rivals has been moved aside for them!

Re: Here's a thought?
Bookies do have Man City as 6th most likely team to be relegated, more likely than Crystal Palace, so it's not an impossibility. The odds are around 12/1, meaning they think there's probably a 1 in 20 chance of it happening, something like that. It's a market affected by bets placed however, so I think those prices cover the bookies backs just in case, and the real probability of them being sent down this season is probably closer to 1 in 50, i.e. don't count on it!

Even if punishment is given to City it will probably be years before it is implemented due to legal challenges.

Re: Here's a thought?
I read an article penned by a solicitor who said the reason it's dragging on so long is down to the team prosecuting them, because there is over 100 different charges every single one has to be dealt with individually and be water tight because their legal team will pounce on the smallest detail meaning everything could come crashing down and delay it for potentially years. With all that in mind I just struggle to see them getting punished, certainly not severely, hope I'm wrong, because if I am wrong that's Southampton, Leicester and Man City possibly already down lol.

The whole thing stinks. If I had my way they would be relegated to the 10th tier of English football (whatever that might be).

I really enjoy that you've gone to the effort to research that, it's the kind of thing I would do

Re: Here's a thought?
They should be automatically relegated to Div1 in my opinion.
If that were to happen then I think the fairest thing would be that the bottom 3 clubs in the PL are still relegated and an extra team promoted from the Championship - I don't see why the team finishing 18th should profit from another team bending the rules.

Re: Here's a thought?
I do wonder if city's on-field collapse this season is related to this, ie internally do they know they are going to be hit hard? Be shocked if they got relegated from this but I mean something has clearly broken in terms of them being a winning machine, I was suprised when Pep signed a new deal as I thought that was a positive sign for them that they may not fear the outcome of the case.
It could be a issue with aging players, teams wising up to their tactics etc but it seems the drop off in form has been so huge?

Re: Here's a thought?
Even if they’re given a 20 points deduction which is highly unlikely they would still avoid relegation. The only way they will be relegated is if “relegation” is their punishment which in my opinion is even more unlikely. If that happens it would be very short lived as I think they’re resources are so huge.

Re: Here's a thought?
I've just been reading it could be a deduction which guarantees relegation, 60 - 100 points even mentioned, it also goes on to say the EFL could refuse to accept them lol, how funny would that be.
Personally I still think they'll get off with a slap on the wrist type punishment

Re: Here's a thought?
I think losing Rodri for the season, and the sale of Alvarez to Athletico Madrid has affected the club's on-field performances more than the ensuing financial litigation.shabba wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2025 12:25 pmI do wonder if city's on-field collapse this season is related to this, ie internally do they know they are going to be hit hard? We never thought in a million years that Rangers would be relegated to Scottish Division 2 a number of years back but it happened.

I would love them to get relegated and really punished for what they have done but unfortunately, my experience is that when the lawyers get involved and it starts to impact income (in this case for the PL), this will be kicked into the long grass.

Was magnificent! I actually remember where I was when that news came through. Was in a house discussing a fireplace with a grate builder we know. But gained masses of respect for “Super Ally” after all that. Poor guy standing in a ramshackle dugout @ Berwick Rangers on a rainy day “live” on BBC. He suffered but respect to him for sticking to the task and showing his commitment to the cause.
….., even if it is a completely new and different club!

Re: Here's a thought?
I’m not really in the know re Scottish clubs and rivalries etc guys, so bear with me here.
Why would Scottish fans ( some) be really happy with Rangers demise a few years ago? Did they do anything particularly wrong, and any different to Celtic got heir arch rivals? And where are 4angers now in the Scottish football world.
/ standing?

Re: Here's a thought?
To be fair, it could’ve happened to Celtic, but Fergus McCann stepped in and bailed them out.
The whole thing collapsed when the 3 foreigner rule was scrapped. Both Glasgow clubs went a tad mental. (Edinburgh clubs realised they couldn’t afford it all!!
)
So —->> nope, no sympathy. Souness and his “9 in a row” with all the foreigners and Gazza / Hateley etc etc cost them dearly with LIQUIDATION!!! Which means ceasing to exist.
Feckin HILARIOUS!!!

Edit to add: wouldve been EQUALLY hilarious had it happened to Celtic. None of that religious shyte in my family.
