I may be totally wrong, Ash, but i think the term “bad apples” means disruptive types. Not poor players. 🤔
Paul Pogba would be the classic example of a bad apple. Fantastic player, but very disruptive based on a whole host of quotes from a whole host of people. Could possibly add Mario Balotelli to that as well.

Mick McCarthy might suggest Roy Keane as a prime example.

Yes, that was a clash of personalities wasn’t it. The difference with keane is he was disruptive for the good of the team.
Occasionally he’d break legs for the good of his own vengeful agenda.

Then he emptied Jordan Rhodes and signed Tamas Priskin and all “good for the team” values vanished out the window.
