I'm convinced these signings were targets FOR the championship and for further development at that level, not the PL. Our back to back promotions was not expected. Transfers are negotiated over period of time and likely, several windows, not just negotiated in one.

I didn’t want to create a new thread, but there’s been something I’ve wanted to comment on. Tactically our forwards are instructed to play the high press when the opponents (usually the goal keeper) has the ball in defence. Primarily, Delap constantly runs at defenders and the goal keeper to hurry their distribution. Rarely has this approach resulted in us winning the ball back and it leaves a huge gap between the forwards and midfield creating space for the opponents. It’s happened in virtually every match we’ve played in the PL.
In my opinion it’s a waste of energy especially when you look at the statistics and a negative consequence is Delap burning out around the 55 minute mark, in addition to creating unnecessary energy from the rest of the team scrambling to get back and cover.
Any thoughts?

I commented to Mike on Delaps closing down, on Saturday. He's not as good as Hirst in that respect. Players " close down" but never make a meaningful attempt to get the ball in my view. Hirst really did used to close down and go for the ball. But we've not seen hardly anything of his thus season to comment on thst tactic from him at this level.
For closing down to be effective ALL the front men need to close down. This used to happen with the championship front line. They were very effective .

It's been like that all season despite McKenna and players saying the same old, same old about learning from mistakes. Stubborn and very well stuck in his principals. Just like Russell Martin, same school. Nothing changes.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 7:03 pmI didn’t want to create a new thread, but there’s been something I’ve wanted to comment on. Ok I think many of us agree, if KM is to stay he needs to be more flexible. I mean based on analytics alone, he has failed as far as adjusting tactics to suit the strengths of the squad. KM has the potential to be a fantastic manager, but he has to learn to be more open minded tactically. There’s no carbon copy or formula that works for every squad. Sure, you can instill the ethos of how you wanna play, but you have to have the intelligence to adjust. I’m not blaming everything on KM, the players are at fault too. But, he played the same tactics for almost every fuckin game! I’d like him to stay if he’s learned anything, but if he leaves I couldn’t care less. Said before, if you think will skate in the Championship you’re deluded. It’s a different piece of the pie now, and it may not be as tasty.

If KM leaves, I’d like us to get a foreign manager…Spanish or Dutch.

There are NINE minutes between these posts, 24. Was it a paella pie? Or a special kind of pie!

Yep, correct. A Burrito pie? Not tasty at all.

Last word on this (in that) guess if you can't win a game of this nature with a home advantage than you deserve to drop down of fail a relegation situation. Easily the most pivotal fixture for months if not the entire season but we blew out and failed the challenge. Obviously they wanted it more, had the greater desire for victory and all that when they were points ahead of us before the damn thing was even underway.
Haven't watched highlights again there doesn't seem no real need to, you can't change the result of what occurred back there but once again their second goal - if that was the one that condemns us to a relegation - was just a shambles, it won't win no goal of the year award. Last mention and although we played maybe effectively first period and were value for a lead for a time, by the end of it they were right for the win and we seemed in certain disarray after the first 45. McKenna as always just can't compete at the highest level and the players we got can join that in that they're out of their depth beyond the Championship league and simply inadequate for the challenge laid out since last August.
1 win at Portman Road all season well into April, it's absurd if not highly regrettable. Believe mentioned on TWTD you can try to explain why we failed to get going this season with a home advantage and while there's no definitive answer one explanation could be the players have been too cautious or unnerved by playing in front of the biggest names available in the top league. It's easy to find three points up against Blackpools and Boltons but different level of objective or indeed mindset when taking on and hoping to beat say Manchester Citys and all that. Perhaps it's a psychological thing (to the players) as to why we've failed to meet demands of being back.
