The non-Ipswich 'football' score results thread from the main index listing seems to have vanished someplace but got to include two Celtic victories in successive games against both Manchester City and Chelsea. The latter were beaten out of sight and it were a deserved victory, real impressive too.

It's only exhibition contests some would argue but results like this still mean people can sit up and take notice. It's nowhere near enough to advocate any leading SPL club names joining up with the English Premier League in a proper capacity but just goes to show the talent is there and it's not as if they didn't try or weren't worth anything.

Scots League Cup contest underway with it but the top most names are omitted at such early stage. Some interesting scores elsewhere though, Inverness blasted for six at Dens Park, Dunfermline somehow suffer home defeat with Cove and Aberdeen looking good for a proper SPL season after sequence of recent victories, they saw a six goal win over Dumbarton this weekend. Depends how much they can hold on to leading names such as Miovski if they want to plan success ahead.

A sobering day at Portman Road with that 0-2 defeat to Everton but there was one bright spark for me today, I have a new Alternative Football Club to support.

Auckland F.C. We haven't has a professional club here since the short-lived venture (2004-7) that was the New Zealand knights upped sticks and became what is now Wellington Phoenix. Yesterday was the new club's first ever competitive game (yay, franchises!), at home against Brisbane in the A-League (Australiasian pro league, to say it's League 2 standard may be a bit charitable but today I'll take the win as it's cheered me up quite a bit).

And in other news, Jim weir's 1st game as Forfar boss, 0-2 down at home to Stirling Albion in the cup and we battled back to 3-3 AET before winning 4-2 on penalties, what a start!!!! MON THE LOONS !!!

There's a 90, 95 per cent certainty who's going to win the competition but for now you can focus on the early stages where more established club names have yet to enter. Games went pretty much according to plan. Hamilton made hard work getting past non-professionals leagues below them, years back ICT losing to Cove would be a headline grabber for the Daily Record but the former have lost their way and encountering significant problems lately. It's a shame other than wish them well.

Dunfermline should have won by bigger margin at Edinburgh but it's a victory all the same. The aforementioned Forfar game was excellent for fans and neutrals alike and should provide morale for a team near the tail end of the Second Division. Irvine were never going to trouble their opponents as scoreline proved while Raith and Livingston did what was expected against lesser opposition. Broxburn victory at Stranraer seemed the real or only surprise but some would argue there really isn't much to separate them in terms of league status.

Aberdeen got a real good opportunity of redeeming themselves in the SPL later today incidentally after defeat last time out in Paisley, if only to make the inevitable title race that extra bit enthraling.

Well, I really do not want to sound like an a$$hole, (bit late for that) --->> But back in October / November Hibs fans were up to their usual (Jack Ross) shyte and trying to hound out Sir David Gray. One of my cousins was part of it. (SMH -->> that's shake my head for Wilf if he reads this. )
But I, and a few others, knew he needed time. He needed to work with the team and try and incorporate his style and get it drummed into his players heads that they were good enough to play the style that he "believed" they could play.
And it has all worked out and still going from strength to strength.

During that November time, the Hibs sites echoed THIS site --->> "You'll never learn" "Change things" "You're making the same mistakes" ....., similar to even what the Messiah endured leading up to the League One Brovers game, before going on a massive unbeaten run ending in promotion. But it is the modern way. There is no wiggle room at all for managers. And there is even less wiggle room for Kieron McKenna with there being arguably 14 better sides in the league instead of just the two up here in the SPL. (The Sevco being debatable in that!)

I never argue with people close to me but a few of the cousins buddies were giving him it tight today for singing the anthem....., "Hey, why you singing ya nutbag? You wanted him out!" LOVE the banter.

People won't know they're in the bottom league of Scotland or even in peril of falling away completely. I don't watch them granted but it remains a shame. It's nowhere near Third Lanark level but you'd hope to see the team improve or move clear on a better direction route.

Aberdeen it's good to see them progressing through Cup competition once again, particularly one they haven't seen victory since 1990 although there's always going to be one or two other remaining obstacles that hinders an outright win. Celtic will put to right an uncharacteristic league defeat by beating the same opponents in tomorrows contest while Livingston / St Johnstone have yet to play to make the last four line up clearer.

Yes, they really are. Four points from six vs Peterhead & East Fife were coupon bursters. Hopefully they do not do a "Hibs" and lose v Clyde at their place.
Having said that, got to believe Bonnyrigg are on their way down. Much too big a step up for them. I mean, when they shoot over the bar at the Auld Orchard end, the ball ends up in my brother in laws garden. The "Scottish Professional league" ?!

Aberdeen got to go far better in the upcoming Final than defeat at Ibrox last few days. Defend like that and Celtic will hit double figures. While would obviously favor the latter to win, here you got an opposition team that haven't seen victory in the competition since way back in 1990 and irony being it were the same opponents then they got in a short time from now. Being impartial, they deserve a win after so long but they simply won't or can't do it over 90 minutes this time around.

Partick / Livingston should be a good event this night at Firhill although the latter should ideally see victory being clearly the more competent of the two, however all things are possible in play-off games, you never can tell.

Scottish League 2 side Dumbarton's pre-season friendlies with Stenhousemuir and Stirling Albion created a stir on social media - because every single player in their squad was a trialist.

After a challenging few months off the pitch for the Sons and players being on holiday, manager Stevie Farrell was forced to bring in different players for a mini-tournament in Stenhousemuir.

"The team news is in," Dumbarton posted on X before kick-off in their first match.

"Trialist between the sticks. Trialist and Trialist in the centre of the park. Trialist leads the line."

Before their match later on Saturday against Stirling Albion, Dumbarton said: "All change for the clash with the Binos as Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist and Trialist come in for Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist, Trialist and Trialist.

"Trialist, Trialist, Trialist and Trialist make up the bench."

A deal was struck for Dumbarton to exit administration earlier this month by dissolving its holding company and creating a new company wholly owned by Canadian businessman Mario Lapointe.

That means the club is still awaiting approval from the Scottish FA and SPFL about whether they can register new signings and continue to play in League 2, having been relegated last term following a 15-point deduction.

Manager Farrell said in the build-up to the game he would also be fielding trialists and younger players because of the handful of contracted senior players being on holiday.

"Amazing day for the Trialist family," one X user replied to the club as football fans joked about the team news.

Dumbarton lost both games 2-0, so 'Trialist' failed to get on the scoresheet.
