What are you listening to?

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

Gene Pitney / Something's gotten hold of my heart

Single version, no soap fairy Almond included.
Just listened to both, Saint on the Alexa contraption…….. the Almond version walks all over the original in my opinion ——>> miles better.

RIP Gene……. Very unique voice.

Almond is and will always be Soft Cell, nothing more. You can't really recognize the name in any other capacity.

Past duos of say Bowie / Crosby & McCartney and Jackson can work, they're (all) essentially risks but sometimes prove efficient.

(for relevance sakes) Last thing listened to was probably Blondie some hours back. Wasn't Rapture or Call Me, hell the memory's not what it was.

Hanging on the Telephone think it were. Definitely Harry and her group though.

The Chieftains Live from Dublin…saw them live at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth Texas…probably the best concert experience in my life…aside from U2s Unforgettable Fire tour in Houston Texas.

Sometimes ya gotta appreciate your roots.

Note to self: On those hung over, lack of sleep work mornings…a cup of coffee & the Chieftains playing in the background will have me skipping to work with a smile. 🎻 ☘️

Haha, I bet you have a few Tom Jones under your sleeve? I like you mate…you’re probably my age mid 50s? Most of the forum members are post 70s, so can’t relate to many of them. Your handle seems a bit mid eastern…what’s your game then mate?

I’m not racist, my daughters are half Cuban, my nieces are half Mexican and I have a cousin who’s half Pakistani.

lol I have a decade on you I think mate, but the only Tom Jones track I have is on the original movie score of What's New Pussycat.

The handle is in Tok Pisin/Bislama, from Melanesia. Literally MouthWater, doesn't translate exactly but it's somewhere between hot air and drivel, the sort of thing you might expect a politician to exude. Or me on a good day.

Same with Queen. Deep dive into their back catalogue…….. some real outstanding stuff away from the usual stuff.

One of my guilty secrets is the Beach boys back catalogue. Not the early, stripey-shirt, 'I Get Around', Chuck Berry surf riffs, nor even the 'God Only Knows' of Pet Sounds. It's what comes after that. Some of it is truly dire, and some is very nice indeed.

'Feel Flows' (from 'Surf's Up')

I only have Birds Of Fire (Mahavishnu Orchestra) in my collection. Several Beach Boys including Surf’s Up. Nice stuff, both of them.

I had Birds Of Fire in the era, the only thing I did have of his, not my thing really, perilously close to Jazz.

Yes, not mine really. One of those things that I saw going cheap so bought it. Also have Love Devotion & Surrender and I think a 5cd John McLoughlin box. All night but yes same reason.

I have 'Jesus Of Cool' too, 'I Love the Sound Of Breaking Glass' still sounds great today. He's had an interesting journey from power pop new wave producer to ageing crooner.

The link above is from one of his later albums, 'The Old Magic'. I found a '10th Anniversary Edition' at a retail outlet here recently so it should be in stock in the UK; a bit unusual in that it's a regular 12 track LP which plays at 45rpm, nice.

Also have a couple of others, I like 'At My Age'. Hope For Us All is from that album.

I remember that Jesus of Cool came with a postcard of one of the cover images. And they had to rename it in the xx States, something like Power Pop For Power People if I remember correctly.

Johann Sebastian Bach, Mass in B minor, Part 1.

Classical music just isn't appreciated enough. Some of the most beautiful music even written sprung from names like these.

Little Feat: Sailin’ Shoes
Followed by Van Morrison: Moondance.

Little Fear at their finest, and I actually prefer Moondance to Astral Weeks these days.

Moondance is soft rock for me compared to AW.

I like Veedon Fleece as much as AW.

In Manchester right now for Iron Maiden …… couldn’t miss this one, (and couldn’t get tickets for Glasgow) Setlist has a couple songs they haven’t played live since 1987. 🤘🤘🤘
Like a wee bairn again, all excited.

UP THE IRONS!
