What are you listening to?

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

I was looking at the top ten UK music charts in 1981 when ITFC were great!

I remember when this came out, I was teaching and two less-than-bright lads painted the Adam Ant stripes on their faces with Tippex. All I can say is it didn’t come off easily. A few years later, one of them was sitting his GCSEs and as he filled in the front sheet of his paper, asked me “Do I spell my name with one R or two?” His name was Gary, hardly the longest or most complex name to spell. 16 years old. I wonder what he’s doing now.

Great story! While inexperienced in life and naive, sometimes a young mind can be a harbinger for societal change. Adam & the Ants were arguably the pioneers of extravagant costumes & makeup. Would not be surprised if Bowie was their mentor. Look what followed, Twisted Sister & Motley Crue to name a few. Interesting how art represents sociological periods in life, much like the renaissance did before we were alive. What’s next Andy? You seem like an intelligent morsel on this unpredictable platform of life. And you were a teacher of past and present. How would you educate the minions for the future?

Soooo much nervous energy prior to the huge game! Dancing round the house to:
"The real life-radio edit" by Raven Maize! Seriously Pumped!

And now my go to song which always fires me up:
Planet Perfecto with "Bullet in the gun".
"You will move all mountains that stand in your path"

They are French bulldogs. Their only talents are snoring and farting. Not good when they sleep on the bed with you.

Farting dogs are a great asset when you’re still dating in the upper fifties. I have a 16 yr old cat who rarely farts, but when I have a lady over he’s invariably the perpetrator of odorous smells in my townhouse. It’s not me love, it’s the cat!

Remember getting sent home from work once due to a potential gas leak in the building. I laughed cuz that describes me after lunch every day.

I’m sure most women proclaim their farts don’t smell, and we accept that assumption, don’t we?

Indeed, I’ve always maintained it’s one of the fundamental differences between the sexes. Women never admit to farting while men are proud of it. And find it hilarious.

Can never see his name without thinking about that very old joke:

Why has Captain Kirks girlfriend got poop on her head?

Because Willian Shatner.

Great stuff, Ohio

Saw them at Donington 87. They opened the show. They went down "quite" well as it was largely a Bon Jovi crowd. ......, I say quite well ---->>> but the Anthrax & Metallica folks were trying to throw bottles of p!$$ at them.

Take away from that day, Ohio which I am sure you'll appreciate ......., when Dio did their encore, "Rainbow in the Dark" --->> There was indeed a rainbow in the sky. Weird day for the weather that day ....., dusk sunshine with a downpour. Fairly sure Kerrang! magazine captured it on photo.

I would have loved to see them at donnington! I love the blues aspect they put in their music.

And DIO!!! I personally think Heaven and Hell is the best sabbath album.

By an absolute mile! And no doubt followed by "The Mob Rules"

By the way, for reference ......, only one "N" for the rock festival place. Donington,

Donnington is 130 miles further south. A LOT of metal fans make that mistake. Thankfully they changed the name of the festival to "DOWNLOAD"

😂 got it. Glad to see you agree, I was afraid of blasphemy. Dio with Sabbath was awesome.

BTW, did you see USA is a fellow metal head?

EDITED

Just went back and listened to Heaven and Hell again. After 44 years, what a masterpiece!

Metal, was Heavy Metal when I was a kid, what happened to it? Gotta be honest it's never floated my boat, don't think I have any in my collection though I was spinning Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness one time and my son said 'I thought you don't like metal'.

I didn't think it was, what d'ya reckon?

Didn't have the pleasure of seeing Sabbath with Dio but did see them with Glenn Hughes in 1986........, but, Ronnie Dio did do H&H on Dio tours and my personal favourite was / is "Children of the Sea"......, an absolute masterpiece.

Best version......, from "Live eviL

In the same really. I was a huge fan of the Who and remember playing Live At Leeds, which opened with Young Man Blues

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Dkv_Aa45- ... Ymx1ZXM%3D

Saw it was written by a guy named Mose Allison who I hadn’t heard of at the time so checked his version out.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X97ykx3rO ... bHVlcyA%3D

Although I liked the Who’s version, it lacked the subtlety of the original. As I got older I’ve moved more into folk, blues and even a bit of jazz.

The Who even changed the meaning by adding a word:
Mose wrote “A young man ain’t nothing in the world these days,” But Daltrey sings “A young man ain’t GOT nothing in the world these days.”

Mose was another one of those musicians who was contacted by a black-only club and asked to play; he had to say “I think there’s something you should know…”

I really miss those epic long anthems (10mins +) that bands like the Who, GnR, Led Zep, Lynard Synard etc put out ... often quite different to their usual sound.

you don't really see that nowdays.

Change of groove. I found a Santa Maria test pressing of Allan Toussaint's Southern Nights at a record fair a while back, it wasn't something I was previously familiar with but it's really grown on me. Not metal though, sorry.

You still do see that, Frosty, but you'd need to seek out the modern Prog Rock scene. Stuff like The Flower Kings, Dream Theater, Spocks Beard......, although all three of those were better early naughties era. It's like they're trying too hard these days. American prog band Glass Hammer are awesome....., some 25 minute epics on their modern day albums.

“Spider” John Koerner died yesterday. Did several folk blues albums in the 60s as part of Koerner, Ray & Glover. Also made several solo albums. This is him with Willy Murphy from the Running Jumping Standing Still Album, the first of his I bought. From the days when if it was on the Elektra label, you knew it was worth a listen.
