Your best game as a Town fan?

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

Your best game as a Town fan?

Post by Minted » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:48 pm

For me.. the play-off final. Unbelievable day.

I was meant to go away for the weekend and I know that I didn't want to go. On the Thursday my Mum and Dad said they had got tickets after weeks of me crazing them to go but they said they couldn't get hold of any tickets. This meant that I didn't have to go away so I was ecstatic :D

I set my alarm for 6am on the Monday and couldnt wait. Got dressed in my whole Ipswich kit and go out numerous blue and white flags.

I couldnt wait to go to Wembley and I was overwhelmed when I got there because I had such a good view. Oh, I also had a fcking delicious burger at the ground :P :P :P

I sat next to the EADT bunch.. and this man lifted me up everytime that I scored! Reuser's goal was probably the best moment I have had as a Town fan because I knew we were there..

For me the first game against Inter was a cracker, seemingly going for a draw...then turning the game on its head with the winning goal!! To be back in the BIG league against a huge team, and coming away with the win was just awesome!!

Something you wanna tell us?? :o

My best game as a town fan??

I have 2....

First is my first away game, it was my mothers birthday and she had booked a 5 day break to Nottingham for the 3 of us + a family friend (the guy who took me to my first town games), this was about 5 or so years ago and we just happened to be playing Forest on the tuesday night that we were there! The game drew 1-1.

My second is from this season.....Sheffield Wednesday v Ipswich.....The whole day was great! It was the 8 oclock train i think we got from Chelmsford, the trip up there was great! And we got speaking to some Owls fans and had a few pints with them....Then off to the game - great atmosphere! and we won awayyyy!!! the celebrations at the final were as if we had won the league! The jourrney back was brilliant! On the train we had a couple of bottles of Champaign and a few bottles of wine and the odd can of beer. the people on london underground dont no what hit them!

29th May 2000.

I was not looking forward to this day as it marked the first anniversary of the death of my younger brother and I was worried I might be a bit emotional.

It turned out to be one of the best days of my life. Ipswich won the play off final, unfortunately we had to sit with the Barnsley supporters but it was better than not being there at all. I tried to act like a neutral - and I was quite convincing until Wright saved the penalty - anyway, I survived.

Then in the evening we went to Wembley Arena to see Pearl Jam (my favourite band)

An unforgettable day.

Jonno won't be happy when he reads this, that's one gig he always regrets missing.

I'll always remember his face on the bus as we were leaving Wembley, he so wanted to stay and watch Pearl Jam and was pissed off for the rest of the day even though we had just been promoted to the Prem

Play-Off semi-final at Portman Road in 2000. Ipswich 5-3 Bolton (aet). It was my 3rd season as season ticket holder and all of the previous seasons we were kncoked out in the play-offs which really hurt! Magics hat-trick, the pitch invasion afterwards, the comical sendings off, all played a part in what was one of the best days of my life so far! Beating Man UTd 2-0 in 1997, and all of the Norwich wins were also great, as well as the Final Win in 2000 were all superb outings as well but that semi-final in 2000 is my fondest memory :) .

Mine has to Wembley in 2000, followed closely by our last game of the season in 91-92, when recieved the 2nd Division trophy, we beat Brighton 3-1, sending them down in the process, the whole atmosphere that day was just celebration, John Lyall had a cracking team that season, It was also a season where I only missed 2 games home and away. Another Excellent game from that season was the FA cup replay at Anfield where we took the lead in extra-time, but eventually lost 3-2, the support from Ipswich was massive and I'll never forget that game (even though we lost)

I would say the best Ipswich game I have attended was the play-off final against Barnsley. The match was good and seeing all the flags hanging from the bridges along the A12 made it even better.

A couple... firstly the Play off final which was just a fantastic day all round. The nicest thing being the Barnsley fans after the game congratulating us!

Secondly, when Ipswich were beating Norwich 5-0 and seeing Rob Fleck get in a massive hump with the Cobbold stand. Brilliant.

When we inflicted Man U's biggest defeat at that time, my memory fails me even though I attended the game? Late seventies early Eighties :astroll:
