It is a shame to me that in 2013 a 'Fried Chicken' remark can still have the stigma of racism. I'm probably gonna get beat up for this post, but who cares what people eat!? I know, I know...one can never belittle the presence of racism in society. But to be honest, the racist will always win if society remains ultra sensitive to remarks like fried chicken. And, then there's Tiger talking about the presence of racism he's had to endure over the years...I mean don't get me wrong racism is horrible, but he is a multi-millionaire isn't he? His life hasn't been that bad, has it? I hope I'm not being insensitive here it's just something I feel strongly about. Don't get me wrong, monkey-chants are certainly out of order, and the perpetrators must be punished. But fried chicken....

Re: Tiger's Words
I think you're being quite ignorant if I'm honest.
Re: Tiger's Words
I'm sorry you feel that way. Perhaps you're right...I could never understand what it means to be on the receiving end of racism, although I have been ridiculed for being Anglo-American. I'm sorry if I've offended, it is a very sensitive subject.Herbivore wrote:I think you're being quite ignorant if I'm honest.

Re: Tiger's Words
No offence, to be honest I wouldn't just go there discussing it. As you say, it's very hard to appreciate racism when you've not been on the receiving end of it. I didn't mean my reply to come across as harshly as it sounded either, so apologies for that.Number 9 wrote:I'm sorry you feel that way. Re: Tiger's Words
I guess one mans over sensitivity is another mans offensive barriers being put up. everyone on the planet has at some time been the victim of prejudice and the perpetrator of prejudice, be it sexism, ageism, colour, wealth, class, accent etc etc.
The worst is to think someone is over reacting or cant take a joke or criticism. One can imho also be overly politically correct, i guess its a lot to do with common sence and respect of others.

Re: Tiger's Words
Someone mention Fried Chicken? Fking superb....., just let me go dry my ginger hair and beard, put some make up on my freckles, finish off my porridge, toss a few cabers, put my fking "skirt" on....., err, I mean, Kilt on, grab my bagpipes, have ten whiskies and I'll be right there.
I'm with you, 9......, fried chicken, my fking arse. Tiger should put more effort into being completely ashamed of himself for being disloyal to his loving wife. Whinging faced arse.

To be fair, Tiger totally downplayed the whole thing.

Re: Tiger's Words
Did he? I thought I heard that he was "deeply offended", to the point where Sergio was almost grovelling with apologies? Or was that bullshit? I can only take my info from the news at the time.
Away from all of this, Tiger really did have my "admiration" if you want to call it that....., but I just have no time for the guy at all now. In fact he annoys me when I see him on TV.

Re: Tiger's Words
The thing that really gets to me in all this childish crap is that if the boot had been on the other foot and Woods had mentioned Paella or something none of this bullshit would have happened.

I actually wish it was nonsense, but sadly it's not.

Re: Tiger's Words
Well it is, and for two main reasons. Firstly, it is a huge and probably incorrect assumption to make that nothing would have been said if Tiger had talked about Garcia going round his dinner for some paella. Given that the spat between them was big news at the time the comments were made I think it's rather silly to think that it wouldn't have been a news story had Tiger said that. That's something of a moot point anyway because the fact is that Tiger didn't say that, Garcia talked about inviting him round for fried chicken. Moving on to the second point, which is the more important one, it's comparing apples and oranges. Paella is the national dish of Spain, there is nothing associated with paella that is likely to cause offence to a Spanish person. It would be a bit narrow-minded to assume that all Spanish people like paella, but beyond that there really is nothing to say. Garcia did not make the fried chicken comment because Woods is American, he made it because he is black. Fried chicken is not the national dish of the USA and it has historical links with slavery, poverty and racial segregation in the US. That's quite a different situation. It wouldn't take much reading up on the subject (Wikipedia would do) to realise these very obvious differences. Hence why there is some serious nonsense being spoken on this thread, and not by me for once.

Re: Tiger's Words
I dont see how Garcia can be racist in any way shape or form considering he was prepared to invite Woods round his for dinner, a true racist wouldnt consider it.

Re: Tiger's Words
It's impossible to have a racism conversation through typed text. Especially if the bottom line is , "Sergio offered Fried Chicken to a black man, therefore he is a racist b*stard." If that really is the general consensus, then there is no point having the discussion.

Re: Tiger's Words
I don't think anyone is claiming that he is a racist but it was an extremely ill-advised thing to say given the racial overtones and the animosity between them.
Re: Tiger's Words
I just heard a black-comedian say black-people aren't thinking about racism when they smell fried chicken. Brilliant!
