Andy Murray - BBC Sports Personality of the Year

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

Andy Murray - BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Good luck to him, well deserved - but I must admit to laughing out loud when I saw the headline and this picture...even if the British Empire lasts for a thousand years there won't be as dour and waxlike a "personality" of the year.

Got nothing to do with his tennis I know, cracking player...but come on Andy...you can smile son - he's like Posh Spice!

The first British player to win the Home Tennis championships since Wade in '77 I believe. I think Murray deserved his sport of the year accolade and he's such a great player. Maybe the best the UK had since Perry in the 1930s. I remember at the time there was a minor furore from some as he represents Scotland and some english didn't savor the victory as some others. Yes it's f**king stupid, as it's all about Britain winning a major event, but you know how some people react.

You don't have to possess a great demeanor or be the epitome of life to be successful. Steve Davis won some seven world championships at snooker doing things his own way, as did McEnroe at tennis, long before Murray became successful. You could add Alex Ferguson into it, who may not have appeared to be full of life or present the brightest of demeanors, but what a success he proved to be. There's something about Scots and their drive to succeed, or makes them more competitive than some others. Murray would prove to be no different.

Clue is in the title. He has the personality of a breezeblock and as such is a w*nk choice for a sports personality.

British sportsperson of the year, then yeah maybe.

Then blame it on the British Broadcasting Corporation. It's their little show or program and all responsibilities lie at their door.

Kind of concur that 'personality of the year' doesn't quite fit in, as it's all about sporting achievement. Who gives a f*ck if the deserving honor is miserable, banal, joyous, vibrant, lifeless, the epitome of happiness etc etc, when all they do is prove to be the best of what there is to offer in sports entertainment.

Edit the accolade title for sure, to something more fitting, I.E. 'Sports achiever of the year' or something.

Saying all this, this is the show that awarded Gascoigne the honor of the year in 1990 - for a few tears in a World Cup game - so people can draw their own final conclusions on this particular award / show.

Sometimes you feel as though BBC f*ck-up of the year would be the most appropriate choice for their 'award' ceremony. Even changing the title from what they have now, won't eradicate some of the bizarre choices from past years.
