The Snooker World Championships Sheffield '15

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

The Snooker World Championships Sheffield '15

Post by arana peligrosa » Thu Apr 23, 2015 11:40 pm

Anyone watching this year. Used to take a greater interest in years back with names like Ray Reardon, Cliff Thornburn, Alex Higgins etc but Davis was still involved as recent as a year or two although don't know if he's finally retired now.

Incidentally this is the 30 year anniversary of the Black Ball Final with Taylor and the said Davis which will doubtless get many replays over the course of this years tournament. Best final ? Maybe, but White and Hendry '94 and Alex Higgins in '82 rivals it.

Sadly, and with all sport, it has become too commercial today and the game itself sometimes comes a poor second but that's just the way it is.

Since the demise of the Late Great Alex Higgins and the unbelievable talent of Jimmy White it has all become p*ss boring for me, back in the day I would watch every possible minute of it.

There was almost a female participant for the first time ever in the first round but she didn't make it past the last qualifying round. Don't really have a preference who wins it this year, would usually hope Steven Davis goes a distance but for one thing he realistically has no chance of ever being champion again and he may not even be involved this year.

The famous Davis / Taylor final took place on 28th April 1985 incidentally so while the 30 year anniversary is almost upon us I hope to get another viewing on the day in question just for nostalgia value.

That was probably the most dramatic match ever played.

I can't see beyond Judd Trump as winner this time around.

This years final event is Shawn Murphy and Stu Bingham, it is to be played over two days starting later this evening.

Not the match-up many would have envisaged but it's the biggest event in the industry and they get a large pay check out of it. Incidentally the last time Murphy won it Town were last involved in the play-offs.

Don't have a preference who takes it this year so may best man win etc

This years tournament was won by Stu Bingham

Bingham had an 18 - 15 win over Shawn Murphy in the final. Sounds like a fine final event but didn't take the time to watch this time. Think in a way it's maybe for the best and pleased to an extent that Bingham won. Due in part to 2005 being a year to forget when Murphy won his one and only championship.

Bingham beat on route Robbie Williams and O'Sullivan to get to the main event so he has had a tournament to remember. He is also the oldest winner (38) since Reardon in 1978
