Where is that venue

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

Where is that venue

Post by arana peligrosa » Tue May 19, 2015 12:40 am

Not going to be in much need of the general soccer index from here on so as an extra interest in this section why not try a 'where is the venue' comp if say one or two want something else to participate in.

Here is an example :

#1 I am an arena outside of Europe

#2 I was officially opened a year before England's national stadium

#3 I have hosted a World Cup Final

#4 I was originally not intended for (British) Football

#5 I have seen an attendance of 100,000 +

Answer : The Rose Bowl, Pasadena, United States

You get the idea

Here is the first actual attempt :

#1 I have been my nations national stadium

#2 I can be found on mainland Europe

#3 I held a major final event in 1995

#4 I have a capacity of 60,000 +

#5 I have been part of a famous movie setting

Thank you for participating. I believed I had made another mistake.

Yes it was the Ernst Happel Arena, Vienna Austria

#1 Needs no explanation

#2 see above

#3 Ajax Amsterdam / Milan Champions League Final event

#4 see 1 and 2

#5 Overlooks the grounds associated with Orson Welles The Third Man

Have a go yourself if needs be

1/ I was opened in 1854
2/ My record attendance is 130,000
3/ Nowadays, I hold just over 100,000.
4/ I hold my nations major final every season.
5/ The sport mentioned in number 4 ^, is not in my stadiums title.

My next clue was going to be; the 130,000 record attendance was for a Billy Graham Evangelistic rally!

Nice one that Wolf.

this should be a good one

This stadium was named after a local Hero
You probably know this ground by a more commonly known name,
Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Madonna, and Bruce Springsteen all played at this stadium.
This stadium is also shared by two football clubs.

Sounds like something in Milan

The er, Guiseppe Meazza or something. We know it better as the San Siro

I think when Milan are at home it's called the San Siro, when Inter are involved it's then the other - named after a former playing legend.

Going to look damn stupid if incorrect but quietly confident

Should have put this in the general soccer index, it may have garnered more participation, seems kind of wasted down here

Here is another one

#1 I was opened in the 19th century

#2 I have been a shared venue

#3 I have held different European final events

#4 I could be a Spurs fan's favorite stadia

#5 I hold a unique honor that can never be changed or overcome

Right area, wrong country.

Going to be busy with "other events" for the rest of the day so won't be able to update this until some time tomorrow. Here a couple more pointers to keep the interest :

#9 I have a capacity of less than 50,000

#10 I have held a European Championship Final event -the crowd got the result they had hoped for

Parc des Princes, Paris.... 8)

Liverpool beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the 1981 European Cup final there. and I think Alan Kennedy scored.
and I do believe that's where Scotland beat France in the Euros back in the day :D

Yes it was The Parc Des Princes in Paris, France

Opened in 1897 it saw some "memorable" games including Liverpool's 1981 European Cup win, The first ever European Cup Final in '56, Bayern Munich's win over Leeds in the 1975 European Cup Final, Real Zaragoza beating Arsenal in the 1995 European Cup Winners Cup Final (hence Spurs fan favorite stadia) and most important of all France's 1984 European Championship (Final) win over Spain. (The best ever France team assembled, forget 1998 - 2000 they didn't come close)

PS Could you keep this soccer related from here on, someone went off on a tangent and did a cricket field in Australia - should of mentioned at the start is was really only soccer stadia that was intended
