Re: Escape to victory
The game was a tie in the end, good viewing for retrospective purposes for fans if this club but a little dated now. Stallone actually fits in well although Caine takes up too much time chewing the scenery. Beattie and (Paul) Cooper were also involved as action doubles for the aforementioned names and Caine again only accepted the part due to Pele being cast also.
Stallone broke a hand during filming, Ardiles criticized Caine's physical and playing ability - or lack of - and the end game was filmed in Hungary, not France.

Re: Escape to victory
It’s very surreal that film.......
Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Pele, and Ipswich Town players!
Born & bred ipswichonians must be immensely proud. I know I’d be.
Is “Ipswichonians” the correct term? This Edinburger & onions asks.

Re: Escape to victory
It's not that, just seems a ridiculous label. First time that's believe ever been suggested, and been with it long enough to know.
There's no direct name associated to people of the town, what you got is a certain typecast relating to agriculture and farmhands. Rustics, Yokels, that kind of thing, bumpkins and all. It's just the way outsiders would perceive the vicinity.
Maybe we've moved on in the twenty-first century and perceptions are more favorable but even from a sort of neutral perspective you got a label there that will always be tough to disassociate.

Re: Escape to victory
Agreed....... keep the ridiculous labels for the good people of Airdrie....... and ex students of Eton!
And I suppose some people say they’re the “Aberdonians”, but they’ll always be the sheep shaggers!
But there is a genuine question in there.......
Edinburgh ——> Edinburghers
Glasgow ——> Glaswegians (or bucket rakers)
Aberdeen ——> Aberdonians
Dundee ——> Dundonians (or mingin bastards)
Liv’pool ——> Scousers
Newcastle ——> geordies
Manchester ——> Mancunians
Birmingham ——> Brummies
Ipswich ——> ???
