NEW QUIZ, ENDED, Winner Charnwood

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

I knew from the clue it was a New Year Bank Holiday fixture and I knew it was Leicester City because at that time I played golf every Saturday morning at a Golf Course Mark McGee’s new house backed onto and I know he was a 5 minute wonder as a Premier League manager. All I needed to do was check the year he managed Leicester City and who the opponents were in the New Years Bank Holiday fixture. A real surprise it was v Ipswich Town at Portman Road with only 15k fans.

You won’t believe John it but I had one of the 16,000 tickets and was in the ground behind the goal. Our very own Ray Crawford scored two goals in the first half.

Ooopz, maybe I’ve got that wrong as you said the HT score was 1-0. Maybe Crawford scored one in each half.

Not much of a claim to fame but I also played in a local league Cup Final played at Layer Road after the last game of the season in the late 70’s.

CLUE.3.

In the 51st minute the "away" side went 2-0 up which was the final result, and a bit of a payback even if it did take over 60 yrs,
60 + years ago the "home" side for the match stopped the chosen "away" side doing the league and cup double by 1 point .

Brilliant Todd66, Correct,
I will never forget that match/season, was only the Sherpa Van Trophy but we had reached rock bottom and that season was the turning point, Graham Turner became manager,
he signed Sir Steve Bull, and Sir Andy Mutch,. we had won the league, sold 48,000 tickets for Wembley, and got revenge on Burnley stopping us doing the double in the old Div One in 59/60.
