1950s from left to right;- Basil Acres, Joe Ball, Jack Parry, Tommy Brown, and Trainer Jimmy Forsyth
that Jack Parry in those 1950s pics, he was captain of my local dart team, we started up a B team , we noticed before he played he would run his throwing hand across the top of the pelmet above the windows for dust to grip his darts.
We were playing them on a Friday in the league, so on the Thursday we spread woodworking glue on the top of the pelmet,
come the match and his turn he ran his hand along the pelmet and his face when he see his hand was a picture , anyway he never did forgive us for that, LOL.
Looking back, this feller played for Ipswich and Wales, and after was laying bricks for a living, how things have changed aye.
He had a mate called Monty, (nickname) who played for Ipswich. never did know who he was, Anyone have a clue,
Brynley John Parry (11 January 1924 – 20 January 2010)[2] was a Welsh professional footballer. During his career he made almost 100 appearances for Swansea Town and 138 appearances for Ipswich Town between 1951 and 1955. Born in Wales in 1924, Jack married Edith and had 3 children. In his later years he moved to London and then Chelmsford as a bricklayer. Most notably, Parry 'topped off' the Natwest building in London. Parry had 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren all living around the Chelmsford area of Essex before his death in 2010.
RIP Jack

Thomas Thurston Garneys (25 August 1923 – 13 March 2007) was an English professional football centre forward who made over 240 appearances in the Football League for Ipswich Town.[1] He scored 143 goals in a seven-year spell, which was cut short by a persistent back injury.

Had similar back in the 80's with a snooker team. Couple guys with chalk holders and their own extension pieces etc. I was constantly like, "You're shyte ok. Lose all that patter and just pot some balls!"goldandblack wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 6:19 pmthis fella was so professional even being the captain of a dart team, it just had to be done aye, he took it all so serious it was like your life depended on it,

Question for yourself Wolfie or another more local Ipswich resident........., the Bobby Robson statue picture above ---->> what is that building behind him? It is a very prominent building in a lot of aerial pictures of Portman Road. And it is one boring as hell building. Is it an Inland Revenue building or something?

Ipswich Town FC, The Tractor Boys, began playing at the Portman Road cricket ground
in 1884, sharing the ground with the East Suffolk Cricket Club. The Tractor Boys were an
amateur team but hosted some top professional clubs of the 19th & early 20th centuries.
Ipswich Town FC didnt turn professional until 1936 and the ground share with the cricket
club came to an end at that time. Until then permanent structures around the pitch were
limited by the need to accommodate cricket but once the ground share ceased terraces
were built at the ends of the pitch.
The oldest permanent structure built by the club was on the Portman Road side of the
pitch and known as the chicken run. When the club turned professional in 1936
development of the ground kept pace with success on the pitch. The club joined the
Football League in 1938 by which time there were stands on two sides and terracing at
both ends. Improvements continued throughout the 1950s, largely funded by the
supporters, into the 1970s when the Chicken Run was replaced by a modern two-tiered
structure. Peak capacity was reached in 1974 when 38,010 fans attended an FA Cup tie
against Leeds United.
The ground briefly hosted dog racing in the 1920s but the effort was unsuccessful.
Portman Road has hosted one full England international match, against Croatia in 2003.
