Old Pictures of PORTMAN ROAD, & Ipswich.

A place to chat about anything thats not football related. Most of the threads in here are completely pointless which is why people keep coming back and back. As the forum title suggests, feel free to make any post you want on any subject you wish. It also has Adult jokes (so be warned) which is the other reason people keep coming back.

Just to add…….. I can actually feel the dejection those Norwich fans mustve been feeling on that train back to No’F*ck. It is horrible.

Long, short story; the Hibs had a fairly poor team back in 2012, loaded with loanees etc, (Doherty was one of them) only Griffiths was making the team look any good at all……… the Hearts were in the Romanov years, had that bstd Skacel playing 🤦‍♂️…….

But here is the thing. Most Hibees KNEW a possible massacre was on the cards…. YET, some bright spark decided to hire “The Party Bus” , (female Hibee, Pamela….. born with green tinted specs on)

That trip back along the M8, after a 5-1 humiliation in a f**king party bus was the most memorable worst day ever. Soul destroying.
Its tough supporting clubs like ours but would we ever change, remember losing to WBA 1-5 at home in the Cup. I thought it cant get any worse than this, then to prove me wrong they go and sack MM after the game,
I remember going down to Southampton in the early 60s to lose 9-3.
6-0 down at half time, our fans singing " lets go down the beach and have a party" this local fella near me said we haven't got a beach,
I said " and they are not talking about a party either,

 👍👏👏👏

You are very correct though. Supporting largely unsuccessful teams can be difficult, but it does create those memories that we can still smile about.

That bus back on the M8……. One guy (who i have no clue who he was) was banging on and on about how Pat Fenlon got things wrong;
“That sub on 70mins? I mean whats the point? And McPake? What was he doing for that 4th? And the ref with that yellow card? And………”

Another guy, (big Neil) ….. “will you SHUT …….. THE FK…….. UP!!”

 👍
Great memories

Word perfect Big Neil 8) , the worse thing is when we lose is some know it all giving it the big en, especially on a coach when its all you hear and cant get away, Drinks on me Big Neil.
Always remember getting on an away fans special as it was the last train home, most of the windows had been put out, sat there listening to all there crap thinking its only for an hour, bloody train pulls up and we all get chucked off the train, that station was shut down by the police and know one could leave, so I had to put up with all this until the next guarded train in the morning around 6am.

Jeezo Wolfie, that sounds horrendous. Think you’ve won the most inconvenient trip home prize!

After that 2012 cup final, myself, my son, my mate and a couple of my sons mates never went to games on a supporters bus again. We didn’t think through that heavy defeat possibility well enough.

Sons pal daniel: “Aye but what if its a huge win and we’re not on the bus?”
“Its Hibs, Danny Boy. Calm yerself!”

I recognise only 3 names in that complete list for BOTH teams in the Youth Cup 4th round line up from 89.
Just shows how difficult it is to “make it” .
(Bosnich, Sharpe & Ferguson)

No doubt you guys will recognise a lot more names amongst that lot.

Must mention the 1991 League Cup Final coach there and back from Hampden. Had already dumped out the now defunct Rangers FC in the semis…….., Dunfermline in the final.
That bus rocked all the way to Hampden and bounced even more on the way back. Great day.

And a certain Davie Moyes in a dejected Pars team. We also saw the late, great Stuart Adamson of Big Country fame outside the ground pre-game. 👍🎸

Yeah those great days and memories were far and few between, but made up for the misery inflicted by our clubs

.well that's a lot more recent than us :astroll: the Wolves v Burnley, Sherpa Van Trophy Final at Wembley in 1988 was the last trophy for us
we took 50k + to the match.

I went on the train to these two matches, Euston Station and the Wolvo Low Level Station still bares the scars ,

Remember beating Man City in the league cup final at Wembley in 1974 and winning 2-1.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDRKjjFkkJ0

Also remember playing the then European champions Nottingham Forest in the league cup final
At Wembley in 1980 and beating them 1-0. Forest then went on to win the European cup again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekephV2RDMA

So many false dawns, Dave Jones, Mick McCarthy, and Nuno were on the fringe again only to shoot ourselves in the foot.
Must be the same with the once mighty Hibs,

This must rank as the most disappointment, went to both these matches home and away.
Spurs v Wolves Uefa Cup final 1972. The Dave Wagstaffe goal was special. On 11.21.

Ok Wolfie, check the "HOW THEY STAND" table in this picture you posted. Had to have been put together by a Derby County supporter. Sneakily putting them above Forest......, but we know they shouldn't be !!

Number 11 for City Barry Dillsworth ran all over Mick Mills that day but never showed any of it on the telly. typical Anglia TV.
Number 10 was Frank Peterson who appeared on TV with a lot of other City player in the film Porridge filmed in the Chelmsford's nick,
brilliant player from Millwall but has issues
