Rumors' & Transfers - Summer 2022

Post by shabba » Sun May 15, 2022 6:50 pm

Hey all,

Thought I'd start a thread for all the rumors and transfers for the summer ahead, starting now as we've already had a few vague rumors :D

- George Hirst from Pompy, I don't know much about him other than he is tall, 23 and on loan from Leicester. What 'type' of striker is he?

- Morsey to Wigan, suspect its a dumb rumor, if I was town I'd slap a 5m+ price on his 30 year old head to put people off, we don't need the money and he is in contract.

Yes it's rumor time but I don't think we will know until deals are almost done, only £5 million for Morsy

Also looking at a very promising Peterborough player Taylor would cost around £2M are we willing to part with this amount.

Also, it wouldn't hurt for KM to try and bring in West Ham's Mark Noble to bolster our midfield been here once before and was a real gem, Maybe Just Maybe

And I cant see us selling Morsy and I'm sure Celina will come back to Ipswich

Well I hope he's better than the last muppet we signed from Peterborough who's name was Taylor

First signing and it's a good one 👍

Player of the Year Wes Burns has signed a new contract which will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2025.

The Welshman signed a three-year deal when he joined Town from Fleetwood last summer, the first of last summer’s 19 additions, and has now added a further year to his stay.

“I'm delighted to have committed my future to the club," Burns told iFollow Ipswich. “I believe the club is only going one way and I want to be a part of that.

I believe its fantastic news about Wes Burns, long as his form doesn't drop. Can only see him improving over coming years, could be massive for the club and himself..

Excellent news and will stop any silly rumours over the Summer of him being tapped up.

Really good, no doubt rewarded with deserved pay rise.

Shows we are able to retain our players hopefully too.

His comments about the dressing room atmosphere are really great to here.

Probably because extending existing players’ contracts is boring compared with the hit of a new signing. But they’re good retentions IMO, Burns especially

Burns had a great season so that signing is good. Jackson played far better for KMc than any of his previous Town managers, so that signing has the potential to be good. Really don't get the negativity?

There's no need to extend a player's contract when he still has over a year left on his current one. We made that mistake extending Lambert's contract when we did. Only thing is now he will probably cost us more in wages now - so poor business IMHO. And in spite of being the player of the season, he's far too inconsistent to be called good.

As for Jackson - well. let's look at his league record over the last 2 seasons. Played 37 games and scored the astronomical total of 4 goals. FFS, I'm 65 but if I was to play 37 games for Ipswich in the next 2 seasons it's all Lombard Street to a china orange that I would score more than 4 goals. And in his most prolific season as a pro he only scored 16 goals - and that was some years ago, so I hardly think he has the potential to be good for us

As for negativity, I view my opinions as being more of realism - there's a huge difference.

I hear what you say rossi, but lets look at it positively

Firstly Wes Burns. Top scorer, Our only player I believe in League One team of the Season. For a wing back come winger I really don't see what more he could have done. He's 27 and so in those terms should be having his best now. Him signing also means if a higher league club come sniffing Ipswich can ask more for him. We get he doesn't rock your boat, you just don't rate him, fine. Lets move on

Jackson, yes terrible record over two seasons but not a bad record at all since KM came in. The manager says Jackson impressed with attitude, work rate and done well for him. I do not believe KM will not get in another striker or two, so doubt Jackson be first choice unless he really does good.

You totally have right to your opinions and i always read what you have to say because on several things you been right and in fact i have agreed on lots especially your views on Marcus etc, this time though I hope both these players have you jumping for joy and change your mind on them

You are quite right of course - opinions are only opinions, not necessarily right and not necessarily wrong because we all see things differently (in all of life, not just football).

I've never shied away from telling things how I see them - whether football or otherwise - even if I know that nobody will see where I'm coming from (as in the case of Norwood's drink-driving in which a couple of posters totally misunderstood what I was saying): and I say thank God for that, none of should ever be afraid of standing by our convictions.

In the case of Burns and Jackson, yes I hope they both prove me wrong next season :)

If my memory is right I believe Jackson scored 11 goals and had 7 assists in the Championship so surely he should be able to do better in division 1, he's at an age when he should be at his best.

not quite - he had 36 appearances in the Championship, and scored 3 goals, so almost identical to his last 2 seasons in League 1.

In short, throughout his career he has not scored a lot of goals, which is far from ideal for a striker

Interesting. I thought he’d definitely be off. Or is that just Ashton ensuring we get a fair price when he does?

Sorry that was league 1 joint top scorer with Norwood, my memory was right about goals and assists but wrong league ( well I am old)

I'm liking how Ipswich are getting things sorted with their current squad! Burns, Jackson, Aluko, Wolfie, Simpson et al.
Have never been a real fan of Jackson in truth, however I definitely saw a better player in him when we played against Lincoln. Certainly clever business as he could have walked for free, whereas now we could get a fee should another club eventually comes calling! He could well be 3rd choice striker, who knows, but I certainly believe he offered something that no other striker did last season. Same with Simpson, we need some return on our investment in him.
Aluko has another year in him i feel. As for Wolfie, I think it would have been (probably still is) inevitable that clubs will be looking at him during close season. The contract extension says "hands off, unless you want to pay top whack"!
Once we know what we have got, then we can look at additions

100% agree with you. It’s all about securing our better players and issuing the right message to other clubs who might be hovering. The players I want to see offered new terms too is Morsy . Very important player for us I feel .

I think he will still leave . His agent is manufacturing that event in my view. But what it does mean is Town can get a fee for him . Rumours circulating that he might be off to Posh .. interesting considering we’re linked to their midfielder Taylor …. we’ll see I guess !

The guys 31 this year, he's not the future.
I personally can see Morsy going until 34 or even older IF stays free of injuries.

Very much depends on your definition of the future.

It's unrealistic to think that we can use the same squad that (hopefully) gets us out of L1 to be able to compete (and maybe even get out of) the Championship - there is too much of a gulf in quality between the 2.

So the future ought to be all about getting out of L1 - anything else can wait until after that - and I do not consider a player in his 30s to be too old to achieve that.
