Town’s unbeaten start to the League campaign remains intact following Saturday's draw with Barnsley but for me it's still clouded by a sense of frustration, disappointment and dare I say it, injustice. The argument rages that this is part and parcel of the game at our level but for me that still doesn't make it right and a string of poor decisions definitely cost us the win we just about deserved.

Two superb Town goals should have been enough to get the game put to bed but some slack defending cost us dearly, at any level of football those balls into our box need to be dealt with better, this is an area that KM definitely needs to be addressing. Like many others I am convinced a first appearance in a Town shirt for Richard Keogh is not far away, take a pick on who he comes in for, there are no shortage of candidates.

It looked for all the world that man of the moment Marcus Harness had put the game out of Barnsley's reach with a superb finish but the man in black had other ideas and chalked it off. What I was really impressed with was how Town responded to being pegged back for a second time as we finished much the stronger and peppered their goal, the woodwork, a worldy save and a block on the line all denying Town that crucial Third goal.

To be sitting joint top with Fourteen points from Eighteen and still unbeaten is a great position to be in and as has been said we would all have ripped your hand off for that start, with Three very winnable games coming up before some sterner tests we have a great opportunity to consolidate our position.

Kieran McKenna again chose to rotate a few players and while I am not overly keen on the insistence to keep doing this I do think sometimes we benefit from fresher legs towards the end of games, Saturday being a good case in point, I do however hope we can at some point settle on a recognised Eleven to bring a bit of continuity to proceedings.

If you don't like changes then I would give Tuesday nights game a wide berth as Town open their Papa John’s
Trophy campaign with a home game against Northampton Town, what a load of Cobblers this could be. You can expect wholesale changes with the likes of Hladky, Leigh, Aluko, Edwards, Jackson, Humphreys, Ball and Burgess all likely starters, to be fair it still looks pretty strong on paper and should be capable of getting a positive result. I'm not sure how things have been going for Northampton but I also don't think it matters much where this competition is concerned, we all know we have our Eye on one prize and One prize only and as such this is a hindrance, that said I see Town coming out on top here with a rare cup win. COYB'S.

Lots of team changes once again meaning poor understanding / continuity in the “Town 11”
(I won’t call it the Town team because it isn’t a “team”). I understand the need to give the “ group” minutes on the pitch but as a spectacle it’s not one that I personally will be spending money on to go down to the game. Frankly it’s a meaningless competition, but hopefully the Town 11 will have enough to beat The Cobblers.

A scrappy 1-0

Please note: Papa Johns Trophy matches are now available on iFollow (excluding those selected for broadcast). No Carabao Cup or The FA Cup matches will be available to watch on the service.
I found this on the EFL website but it is a year old.

For some reason im looking forward to this. Pissed off with the Col U game. We had plenty of senior players who train as the first team... we weren't dipping into the 21,,'s or 18's... so we should have beaten them. Opportunity for quite a few to come in and stake a claim. No excuses.
And for the theory that we should concentrate on the league... we've done crap in all cups the last few 3 years and still come 11th, 9th and 11th. Mighr as well put some effort in.

Probably no surprises here, but Ball and Keogh are set to make their debuts tomorrow night.

Indeed. But let’s be patient as Aluko was terrible on his debut, Davies too and even harness didn’t look good to begin with. They will need some game time to get upto speed.

didn't bother to vote, the outcome seems immaterial. Any fans who show tangible interest in this endeavor must be few and far between. McKenna may put out names and faces even some of the hardcore, every attendance fan may not even recognize.

Expect 90 minutes of languid inefficiency of those who get selected, guess Northampton won't try too hard either. The Colchester game and score proved a point, us and Cup competition just don't go well together. Even then not sure you can classify this as "competition", trivial exhibition stuff and not much else with it. Promotion from this league is everything., that's where the real priority's at.

So what do we think…

Hladky

Edwards

Kvy
Keow
Burges

Leigh

Ball
Humpreys

Aluko
TJJ

Jackson

I mean I know the disadvantage is they aren’t used to playing together but that is surely a pretty decent XI.

Does highlight nicely that we have good cover for the usual starters - especially as many of these can play multiple positions.

Strong line up tonight ;

Hladky

KVY
Keogh
Burgess
Edwards

Ball
Humphries
Leigh

Aluko
Harness
Jackson

Subs: Hayes, Edmunson, Morsy, Alexander, Chaplin, John-Jules, Ladapo.

If this team can’t win comfortably against Northampton tonight I suggest we have serious problems. COYB’s show em what you can do.

Dominic Ball is a player. Harness is proving he should start ahead of Ladapo. Leigh is proving he should start ahead of Davies. Town are good value for their 3-0 lead.

Aluko injury not looking good and Chaplin got a knock in the warm up let's hope both are not serious.

Easy for Town unfortunately Aluko went off injured. A young lad called Sasizba has come on. Out the 11 changes Town made today only 3 of them should start in the first team .Ball,
Harness and Leigh. Edwards comes inside or passes backwards instead of taking his man on on the outside. Humphries plays people into trouble. Jackson gets caught offside to often for someone with pace. Looking forward to 2nd half. Ian westlake on ifollow commentary talks crap.

Hard to draw conclusions against poor opposition. But we are playing well. And 2 headed goals. Without making a big deal about it, when did we last score in the league from a header?

Agree with a lot of that. Not a Jackson fan, but he is often caught offside because no one sees the run quickly enough. If you stand offside, that’s awful. But if you make a run and the back doesn’t come, some of the responsibility must be with whoever is slow to play the ball.
That’s where Ball Looks good. He seems to have an awareness of where the players are before he gets the ball. So many wait till they get it and then look up. Good players are looking all the time.

Liking ball but how does he get in at present, morsey is always superb and Evans has been very good, he was like KDB this weekend - spraying long accurate balls out to the flanks etc.
