League 1 - Ipswich Town vs Bristol Rovers Preview & Matchday Thread
Ipswich Town v Bristol Rovers FC
Tuesday 13th September 2022 – 19:45
Portman Road
Pre-Match Thoughts - Frosty
Just some brief comments from me this week.
For those of you who are not aware, Mike and his lovely new wife are in Croatia (which I think is somewhere in Wales) for their honeymoon. Congratulations to both of you from everyone on the forum.
Obviously football has been overshadowed this week by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, regardless of ones political view, or the view of Royals in general, what a fantastic statesperson she has been for the UK and the wider Commonwealth. RIP.
I do come down on the side that in my opinion it would have been better if Saturdays match against Cambridge should have gone ahead and people pay their respects prior to kick off, as the show must go on. Hopefully we don’t see any further disruptions to the existing fixture schedule.
It will be interesting how McKenna approaches Tuesday nights game against Bristol Rovers, as except for a big win away at Burton at the start of the season they have struggled on the road recently. Rovers are near the drop zone and this would be a fixture that we would be targeting 3 points. Had the Cambridge fixture been played in the weekend, one would have assumed that there was a high chance of a few changes to the starting 11 for Tuesdays match. With Sheffield Wednesday away on Saturday will the gaffer field the side he was going to start with against Cambridge, or will he have one eye on what is a big fixture this weekend?
With Joey Barton managing Bristol Rovers its fairly safe to say that we will witness a fairly direct style of play when they are in possession and a fairly aggressive system of closing down our attack when we are in possession. I have a feeling it wont be the prettiest of matches with a massive midfield battle taking place.
Mike will be back later in the week to reflect on the match plus preview the Sheffield Wednesday fixture. To everyone attending on Tuesday night, have a great time and I look forward to your post match comments.

Ok Frosty......., put away ones Royal newspaper reports now. Let's one concentrate on the football.
Ipswich to bounce back from the Saturday afternoon at McDonalds with a 3-0 home win.

Other than Burges/Edmundson the team picks itself at present, and even that you’d say Burges deserves his spot.
I hope we get to see Adahme for 20-30mins tonight.

Should have been 6 by the time they had a chance, some of our football has been superb, second goal a must and that will be game over.

On holiday in Seville so struggled to follow in any detail but managed to stay in touch with regular updates. Another fab win and by all accounts decent play too. Well done Town, this is so good.
Big game coming up on Saturday v Sheffield Wednesday.

Good win again tonight, dominated the game and could have had more. First 30mins was superb! Davies was good but then Leigh comes on and also looks great.
Ball did really well filling in in defence. Morsy and evans very good again too.
Ladapo did well and was a nuisance.
Oh and JD was very good.

Their keeper saved a drubbing, 4 top saves, another off the post and one off the line, that's 7 without the other half decent efforts, aside from a couple of minutes just before HT they didn't threaten at all really.

Nice win. All the stats looking great also. Did Rovers go all “Joey Barton” near the end with the red cards?
Huge few weeks ahead. Hillsborough will be very interesting.

Re: League 1 - Ipswich Town vs Bristol Rovers Preview & Matchday Thread
It’s a fab City to visit and my 3rd time here. My last visit was with the missus four years ago for the Spain v England game at Real Betis Stadium which was wrecked by our fans shocking behaviour in the City. We vowed to come back and haven’t regretted it for a single minute. 5 days left and looking forward to it. To be fair you can do most things here in 5 days although a lot of people combine it with a longer trip and include Granada and Córdoba.
Just trying to work out how I can watch Saturdays game v The Owls.

Apart from when they hit the post and Walton produced 2 wonderful saves 1 in each half both at 1-0? I feel Town cause there own problems at times giving away possession with a sloppy pass. Davies worst culprit again. Also he caused the incident for Burgess. If Town get sloppy against the so called better teams they will get punished.

Burgess has been hospitalised unfortunately! Not sure what the injury is . Someone on twtd said it looked a knee in the face impact during that last ditch challenge he made. So is it Edmundson or Keogh Sat then?

Yes, when they hit the post and one of the Walton saves were both on the last minute or Two of the first half, aside from that they were comprehensively outplayed which probably disappointed you.mendipblue wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 10:51 pmApart from when they hit the post and Walton produced 2 wonderful saves 1 in each half both at 1-0? We were very good for most of the game and the result was never really in doubt. We do indeed make our own problems as I have said before but that said, we generally pass other teams in this league off the park. When the ball rolls for us one day, someone will be on the wrong end of a hiding - no question that will happen to one of our opposition teams this season... loved getting back to PR - great atmosphere first half and we fully deserved the win.
