Pre Match Thoughts - Mike

I think from now on I will be calling Town the Ghostbusters, seeing as we seem to finally be laying a few ghosts to rest, Two successive wins on TV, beating lower league opposition and actually winning a meaningful cup match, all things that seem to have eluded us for years. The victory Monday night over Bracknell town in the FA Cup first round was always going to be a lose lose situation, win and it's "only Bracknell" but lose and you become the laughing stocks of the Footballing world with the eyes of the nation firmly on you.

I must admit I thought the opening 25-30 minutes of the game was pretty dire from a Town point of view, we barely strung a pass together and looked anything but a team seven levels above our hosts, yes they did well, yes the pitch was like a cow field, yes it was like playing in a local park but I still felt we looked pretty damn poor. thankfully we started to get a foothold in the game as the first half wore on and chances began to present themselves but with their keeping proving to be stubborn and some stout defending the breakthrough just would not come. Reaching half time all square was not something any of us had expected and credit to Bracknell for putting in a real shift to keep the tie alive for all the neutrals watching on the box, all of whom were hoping for a giant killing of the highest order.

I think Town were comfortable in the knowledge that our opponents could not maintain that level for Ninety minutes and so it proved as they started to run out of puff and fall deeper and deeper quite early into the second half. The breakthrough finally came in the 66th minute courtesy of an Own goal from probably their best player on the night, good work by Vincent-young saw his teasing cross put into his own net by Bayliss, although to be fair had he left it kayden Jackson looked a good bet to finish off a neat move. I think from that point on it was a case of Bracknell looking to keep the score to as respectable a level as they could which was no more than their performance deserved.

Less than Ten minutes later it was 2-0 as Ladapo was on hand to tap home another decent Vincent-Young cross following good work from young Cameron Humphreys, the risk was there that the home side would implode as Town again had the ball in the net moments later, Vincent-Young this time the scorer but unfortunately for him he was denied by a Linesman's flag.

With the game entering the last Ten minutes substitute Panutche Camara was on hand to fire into an empty net following some unselfish play from Wes Burns, it was his first goal for the Town and made a rather more respectable look of the score line. The remaining minutes passed with little goalmouth action as Town eased their way into round Two and a home tie with Non League Buxton. I suppose the game plan may well have been to wear them down and then overpower them from the off and in that respect it worked well, there was absolutely nothing to gain from this tie but we got the job done with little fuss..... in the end.

We return to crucial league One action this weekend as Cheltenham Town come to Portman Road, with Plymouth currently holding a Four point lead over us there can be no slip up's here and nor should there be, with Cheltenham having been sent packing from the Cup last Saturday by the minnows from Alvechurch anything other than Three points here would be somewhat surprising, not to mention disappointing in the extreme. Personally I can't see past a Town win here, with our visitors having already lost Ten times this season I think we will have way too much for them on this occasion, in fact I see this as the game where we go and get an early goal and really take it to them, maybe that 4 goal thrashing isn't too far away, I wouldn't bet against him although we have no idea what Forward players kieran Mckenna will go with, I doubt he evens knows yet but either way it's a comfortable town win here. 4-0. I think we'll win, but not as easily as many might think - I'm expecting us to make things more difficult for ourselves than it should be. 2-1 for me

Didn't look where opponents are in the league or most recent score/s, just voted for us to win. That's all needs do.

Why ? Because we score goals, and plenty of them. The defense may have it's moments and appear (or is) vulnerable but attack wise there's little to no problems. Three with Port Vale, Four with Charlton and Three with Bracknell, even if the latter can't be quite classed in same category as others.

Thought maybe fixtures in November and December would be canceled for all leagues due to the ill-advised Qatar shambes but no, looked on the official site and they're there.

Yep, Port Vale, Charlton & Bracknell…… goals aplenty!
Not exactly Spurs, Citeh & Liv’pool……, but still.
Hopefully Ipswich can continue in that vein and have a “Cheltenham Festival” of goals. Lets say 3-0. Half time.
Even money 3-2 FT!

I think it's time for a comfortable league win. ITFC 3 v 0 Cheltenham.

A very , very frustrating 1-0, late in the game . Just hope we don’t concede in the first half.

They can be quite good defensively so not expecting a big score line.

I hope the lineup is:

Walton

JD
Edmundson
Wolfie
Davies

Ball
Morsy

Burns
Chaplin
Edward’s

Ladapo

Hope Edward’s does start as really been in some
Good form of late. I’d like to see Humpreys get minutes and even give KVY some time off the bench at LWB as he has also impressed me recently.

The 10’a have stopped firing a little bit Ladapo has stepped up so it’s ok, but it makes choosing the two alongside burns and ladapo a bit harder.

"Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says that several players face late fitness tests ahead of tomorrow afternoon's League One home clash with Cheltenham Town.

Tyreece John-Jules (hamstring) and Marcus Harness (illness) sat out Monday night's 3-0 win at Bracknell Town in the FA Cup.

Asked if those two were ready to return to action, McKenna revealed: "We have a few illnesses in Marcus' category and we have a few knocks as well.

"To be honest, we're going to make late checks on quite a few players
" - source EADT

Bit concerned about the "few illnesses" comment!

Off the back of Charlton then anything less than a win will be a worry for me. Going 2-0 Town

All of that shabba, except I’d stick with Humphreys alongside Morsy. The boy can see a pass….

Happy with that, Burges likely not quite fully upto speed yet but as he had his first 90mins recently it’s best to let him play the next match instead maybe.

Would have liked Edwards for harness - otherwise I’m happy.

Edwards is a better impact sub than Harness maybe?

Another game likely to need lots of patience as yet another team raise their game when they come to Portman Road.

As someone else said we’re unlikely to see a goal fest unless we can score early and force them to play. If and when we can achieve that some team is in for a thumping but I don’t think it will be today.

Town win 2-0 for me.

Great opening 10 minutes with a well worked corner leading up to Woolfies first goal since February.

This is just what we needed and will force Cheltenham to change their game.

Maybe it will be Cheltenham on the receiving end of a thumping.

Sloppy play by Edmundson and Walton could have been costly, why the f*ck can’t they concentrate.

We look so dominant and really should have a second goal by now.
