Taken from the Mirror.
Ipswich have signed Australian international midfielder Massimo Luongo on a free transfer through to the end of the season.
Luongo, 30, started his career at Tottenham and was a free agent after the expiry of his short-term contract at Middlesbrough.
The Tractor Boys are also close to a £1 million deal for 24-year-old Everton striker Nathan Broadhead and a season-long loan move for Leicester forward George Hirst, 23.
Wolves’ winger Theo Corbeanu, 20, a Canadian international, is another player the League One high fliers are in talks to sign.

Re: January Transfer Window
Wasn’t keen about Hirst when he was linked with us last summer and certainly he hasn’t done anything during his loan spell at Blackburn. Apart from his time at Pompey his stats don’t really stand out.

Re: January Transfer Window
Hirst again ffs, really been pulling up trees at Blackburn, and Luongo? Can I feel anymore underwhelmed atm, I doubt it. Had a really bad day so hopefully it's just my mindset atm.

Re: January Transfer Window
TWTD saying we are in for Hirst I watched him a couple of times and thought he was not only poor but also lazy, if we took him on loan and Broadhead w,hat does that say for our other strikers like Mike says it's the defence that need strengthening.

Corbeanu has recently returned to Wolves from Blackpool due to a ankle injury. If there is any truth in this rumour hopefully he doesn’t turn out to be another crock.

Struggling to see the need for Luongo? Can only be strengthening in case of injury.

Re: January Transfer Window
Feeling a little underwhelmed with a couple of those players linked, Hurst or Broadmoor lol sound ok.
No CBs mentioned which can only assume KM is going to try and go for scoring more goals than our oppos with the acceptance we will leak a few.
Is massive attack a DM? What role does he normally play?

Re: January Transfer Window
Good question, would be good to have other people's takes. I think the modern game has caught up a bit, thanks to stats and all that, so there may be less of an affect, but I think the heart still pours more money in to attacking transfers.
We do now see goalkeepers moving for >£50m I guess. But a good striker used to be worth something silly like 5x a decent defender or goalkeeper, even when a goal saved is as good as a goal scored.
I do think defensive transfers are better value for money if you've only so much in the bank, but if you don't have an attacking threat, then you can only play the McCarthy way and so only get so far. Defence keeps you up, attack takes you up and there's more money towards the top of divisions, so there may lie one or the reasons. Dunno.

Re: January Transfer Window
McKenna was keen in Hirst last summer and seemingly still keen. I think we can all agree McKenna knows what he's doing. He obviously thinks the guy will fit into his system and likes his style of play - let's give him a chance

Re: January Transfer Window
Hi Liz I've just seen this article in BBC Sport on my phone regarding a quality CB looking for another club and I think this player could solve our defence problems, it's 31-year-old Sean Morrison who's left Cardiff City after 8 years he has an excellent pedigree quality as a scoring Centre Back 33 goals from corners and free kicks I think he will be an asset with loads of experience to pass on to our defence he's a born and bred leader I think KM should try and get him in on a free, you don't get players like Sean come along on a freeby very often so worth a punt ??? tell me what you think he's always been a championship and Premiership captainhallamblue wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 9:11 pmEadt summary or just scraping around for transfer news.

Re: January Transfer Window
it’d be unfortunate if a team did have a host of unsavoury names.
Commentary:
“Keeper, West launches the ball forward, its headed on by Sutcliffe. Gathered up by Manson on the wing who threads it through to Kray, beautiful back-heel from Kray to Brady, Brady squares it……. BUNDY!”

Re: January Transfer Window
No Dominic Ball (out for the season) and Camara (the almost forgotten man) still injured, so this make perfect sense. A deal to the end of the season in an area we look light on numbers.

Not so sure with Luongo Rossi, he's very injury prone too and not played a game for months.

Re: January Transfer Window
It would appear that Luongo had injury problems whilst at Wednesday. A lot of their fans rated him when fit but he was prone to injury.
As already been said he hasn’t played for Middlesbrough this season and therefore even though he has been training with us for a few weeks no doubt it will take him time to reach full match fitness. Yes he will only be used as cover but you need players ready to step in and capable of doing the job from the start.
I must admit I am a bit concerned that we may end up signing players similar to the situation with Camara, arrive here and then end up being out injured for a period of time.

We only have 2 senior CM's currently fit for the rest of the season...........we needed another, and one happy to be a backup - seems fine to me.

If he is then I would question should we be signing him? Surely it should be every players ambition to make the first team.

Humphreys is young but perfectly able as back up. Strengthening areas that don't need Strengthening.
