Big money! He does look to have massive potential but that’s a lot of dollar!

sh*t - the world has indeed gone mad! £22m for Omari (who still isn't worth it btw...) seems like a bargain in that world 😳 - it will all end in tears...!

Question is, is Grey any better a player than Omari?

Frankly ALL the fees are ridiculous and you’re right BW no player is actually “ worth” the fees being asked. Its Monopoly money and it’s supplied by Sky

Why aren’t they worth it? I’ve said it before but you need to reverse the view…

Punters are willing to pay decent money to watch football.
This generates large sums of money for the tv deal.
This sends large sums to the clubs.
Clubs have money to pay large fees and wages for players.

It starts at the punter. The demand for the supply.
If the punter didn’t pay the tv fee the money doesn’t flow.

But there’s no choice but to pay these
exorbitant Sky fees to watch the games, because they practically have a monopoly of all the top games don’t they! You pay your monthly Sky subscription (£70-80p/mth?) and then they add an additional charge to watch the so called bigger games… to my knowledge, no one else can show these games.

Sky Monopoly money is the fuel. It will eventually ( hopefully ) come crashing down. Because the fees paid for so called super star players ARE a joke and these players are not better than those I watched in the 70/80’s . The game had gone mad, and is not better for it. Grey is not by any stretch of the imagination worth £35m

Edit : Shabba, your post got me looking at Sky a bit more. I didn’t realise they sold out to US conglomerate media / telecoms in 2018. But they are a world wide business. They made £16bn 2021, but this had dropped to £14bn in 2022. They have list nearly 2m UK subscriptions over the last year snd expect to lose a further 5m European subscribers over the next year or two. So maybe people are voting with their subscriptions ( perhaps as online viewing gathers momentum via other media companies? I don’t know, it’s above my pay grade lol )!

Always a choice, I ditched TNT/BT as it was all getting too silly, I can afford it but I didn't see enough value in paying for that, plus sky, plus town tv.
Also its why pirate TV has had such a big rise, people just can't or won't pay the money.

Its actually alot worse in the US I think, some huge costs for sport there, but its hard to compare as the economy is very stong there, I think their average salary is now double the UK's.

Agree it's crazy though, and I think now FFP is getting more seriously it will surely have an impact on what clubs can spend.

One other factor, I wonder if clubs think tv money will keep increasing and therfore buying now is always cheaper than in the future? Its like house prices, people have said they are mental for decades yet they keep rising, same with stocks and so on - generally you get small ups and downs vut in the whole these things just keep going up and up.
The revenue of the PL has got up some insane amount in the past 10 years.

I did edit my post above if you have a minute to take a look shabba 👍 :D

The trend by PL clubs to now write into their players sales this buy back option( as well as the usual sell on %), makes it yet more about making money, ( and keeping control / ownership of an “ asset”- player). Frankly it stinks in my book. It’s nothing about “ football “ anymore, just about making yet more money. We are seeing the full force of this now we’re in the so called promised land. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth if I’m being honest .

Overall, I don’t think it’s sustainable and will become a supernova …. We need a reset in the game ….. maybe the Middle East getting in on the act will divert these big 5 clubs and they can sod off to a meaningless Arab league 🤞🤞

Yeah, sadly where there is money it'll always be about the business. I would say though alot of owners are there for the excitment and happily lose money, its actually not easy to make a profit as a football club in todays world - its just ecxiting to be part of it for those lucky enough to be invested.

Anyway, sorry to drift the thread - lets see who we can sign this week, suspect BJ and OH to be confirmed soon. Hopefully new kit launch soon, and some more transfer rumours.

All documentation relating to the permanent signing of last season’s star loanee Omari Hutchinson is reported to have been signed.

On Friday, news emerged that a deal had been agreed between Town and Chelsea for the 20-year-old along with personal terms, subject to a medical.

Now, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that all the paperwork relating to the switch has been completed, indicating that the medical has been passed.

Omari has signed a 5 year deal

Omari is someone we all enjoyed working with last season and the staff, his teammates and supporters all saw how he grew and developed over the course of the year, which is testament to the hard work he put in.

“The impact he had on the team throughout the season, especially in the latter part, was evidence of that and he, like so many of his teammates, played a significant part in that success for the club.

“We think Omari is a fantastic player and person to have at the club for the long-term future. He has a hunger to improve and show that he can compete and thrive in the Premier League

Understand Spurs have received a verbal offer for Joe Rodon from Ipswich. Nothing formal or submitted in writing yet. As I reported before, Leicester and Leeds are also after the Wales defender, who is currently abroad at a training camp ahead of the new season.

Joe Rodon would be a great third signing for us. Delighted to learn that Omari Hutchinson’s record £22m signing has now been confirmed, which means Mark Ashton’s energy can move onto new territory.

Yes indeed, Rodon would be a very good addition, for me he was one of the best in the Championship last season.

Looks like Leicester are losing Dewsbury-Hall, I think Ndidi has also left (free) so that weakens them a fair bit - good for us as their a direct rival.

Not surprised as the offer has been on the table for a while and no progress has been made. Might be wrong but I think it might be the length of the contract that has been offered that has caused things to stall.

Ah shiz! He was key player for us last season, not saying we can't do better but its now another position to fill - and we already need alot of players to make the 25 man squad up.

Disappointed with this news but not entirely surprised by it. I just hope beyond hope we are not looking at Walton as our first choice keeper, if we do we need to change our style of play big time.

Hladky was superb with ball at feet and playing out from the back, he was instrumental in so many moves that culminated in goals, we need someone to come in with similar attributes, I believe Rushworth has that in his locker. We may also get a replacement that commands the box better than Hladky, that was his one weak spot for me, his shot stopping was often breathtaking.

Anyhow good luck Vaz, I wish you well and thank you for the Memories of a truly unforgettable season and your part in getting us back to the big time.
