Aside from the rumours, it’s rather quiet on the transfer front. Is it squeaky bum time yet? I know Shabba’s answer? “Honestly…”.
WHY!? We technically don’t need any new players to be able to start the seasons first few games with a OK team. We do need a CM and AML as the most urgent things - otherwise it’ll likely be adding to the squad.
I respect your positivity, but let me try to explain why I’m feeling nervous. Leeds beat us 4-3 & 4-0 and we now have essentially a very similar squad except for Delap, Johnson, Greaves and Muric. Of those four, there’s one potential goalscorer in the form of Delap. Which could be debatable. Our first fixture against Liverpool is merely a few weeks away. Then we play Man City less than a week later. If we get beaten by multiple goals in our first two matches, it could be demoralizing & a confidence killer for future games. We need to be stronger and it needs to happen sooner rather than later.
The same Leeds who we beat to promotion, the same Leeds who lost 10 times via our 6.

I do get your point of course and we may well get torn apart by some teams, but I think KM will be aware etc.
personally I think those results have more too them, the first game Leeds and a 100m frontline - and only beat us due to that manic 9min spell where they scored three times.

The away game was one of those days where nothing goes your way. Own goal, Leeds on fire etc.

I think we’ll be a bit more counter attacking this year than we were in the champ.

I’m sure the club is doing all it can to strengthen. We will face good teams but we just need to be ‘less bad’ than 3 other teams to stay up, Mike made me think of that when I had similar worries.
Also the teams struggling will also be short of confidence etc so even sides with better squads on paper might be beatable as they are in a bad run or form or such.

Agree re the fixtures, IT24. Couldn't have been a worse couple of first games. I mean, yes, get them out of the way etc etc, but a couple of thumpings could do a bit of damage. Four points, or even just two points on the board after 180mins plus 36hrs stoppage time would've been decent.

BUT......., could still happen. Kieron McKenna at the wheel --->> let's see what happens.

And......, note to Ipswich Town supporters attending Portman Road on August 17th ---->> STAY 'til the end !!

The Man City match is a week after Liverpool sorry I thought that was a midweek game. Yes you’re right Marko, our best signing KM could be the game changer, we’ll see I suppose.

Good point Shabba, we only have to be better than the bottom three…I know Ricco will say I’m hallucinating, I just want us to compete. I’d like mid table as a minimum. Most of us predicted mid table when promoted to the Championship, so why not desire an unusual finish in the Prem?

Why type of player is Jack Clarke? How will he fit into KM’s system and how much is he worth?

Attacking left winger. Will play in that role where Broadhead/Sarmiento were playing last season.

I’d be happier if he was 12m but I know they will probably want 15-20m. It’ll be another gamble but I guess we have a great manager at coaching players. He is English so again not trying to bed in a foreign player etc to a new country /league.

Interesting to see some folks so pessimistic. I'm excited about the Liverpool game. We have a pretty settled side at the moment and they have a new manager and could well be settling into a fairly new system. I see the possibility of getting a result tbh.

Makes you wonder why Sunderland properly effed it up last season after watching those clips.

McKenna and Ashton have the makings of a really decent squad coming together nicely. TBH we have to be pretty impressed especially when you look at what’s going on at Southampton & Leicester which by comparison isn’t very much especially the later. although I believe they do have a £30m offer in for a Juventus midfield player using the Dewsbury-Hall proceeds which seems daft really as they may as well have kept him.

Must admit, I am quite pessimistic about those first two games, but very excited about them as well. What a day at PR it'll be. It'll be memorable for so many people. People in their 20's at their first ever ITFC EPL game. Great stuff.

Pessi first two --->> thrash Fulham 4-0---->> book it!

Once again, I appreciate your optimism. Arne Slot is a super tactician. He imposes midfield possession with a high press. His Liverpool strategy will produce many more goals, and we’re the guinea pigs. Hope I’m wrong, but with our current squad I predict a thumping.

Random but how’s Poland? I’ve only been to Warsaw a couple of times and that was back in my single ready to mingle days.

Thinking of alternate family holiday ideas. It’s always seemed good value and a nice country to visit, much to do for families etc?

Talk that Sunderland will want at least 25 million for Clarke. If that is the case then no thanks.

I’m 100% with you on this DB 👍 and for the same thought processes underpinning that prediction.

Town have nothing to lose this season against thf big boys. There’s no pressure on us other than what we put on ourselves tbh, we’re expected to lose!

Other half is a Polka so have visited there a bit.

Krakow would be my pick for somewhere to base yourself for a trip there, I'm told the northeast up towards the Belarus border is very nice but it might be better to leave that till things in that area have cooled down a bit. Then there's the Baltic coast which has some interesting bits too.

Cheap beer, nice ham.

Also been to Poland one time, to the Wyspiański Theatre in Katowice for a prog rock gig.

1. Edinburgh Airport --->> Katowice Airport
2. Taxi to concert hall area.
3. Drink copious amounts of beer
4. Watch the 3.5hr gig.
5. Drink more beer until it was light outside.
6. Fly back to Edinburgh.

Fantastic Friday / Saturday (which I remember clearly believe it or not) --->> saw zero of Poland though.

Spent some time in Gdansk, briefly. Can’t remember what the currency exchange rate was, but had enough to buy every one a drink in the bar with change.

Ended up hooking up with a girl, but she turned out to be a prostitute. I have morals.

Honestly Poland is great, especially now they have got rid of the populist govt, and the hate that they were keen to spread. Wife is Polish so we spend every Summer in Krakow to escape the Dubai Summer Sauna and I would suggest that if it's city tours then Krakow is an excellent base. It's a beautiful old city, well preserved and with plenty for kids and adults alike. Worth checking out the Jewish quarter also for a reminder of what the place went through towards the middle of the last century. Also the Tatra mountains with amazing hiking and the mountain town of Zakopane are just an hour or two away by train/bus/car. There are loads of other places around the country worth looking at depending on what activities your family wants, for example Mazury in the North East if you want sailing &/or fishing. Feel free to DM if you need more info - would be happy to help.
