A good move for the player and both football clubs. I think we could do with a few more fringe players being shipped out like this.Cabanas Blue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 5:20 pmOne out as expected Ndaba has joined Kilmarnock on a three year deal.

Blackburn have signed a striker apparently, so coukd we finally see Szmodics signing for us?!
You’re telling porkies Mike!!! You didn’t think much of Woolfie vs FD …..” you’ve only been on the pitch 5 mins you tw*t”! As he cushioned the ball to a German forward on the edge of the box!

I must admit that I always try to give Wolfie the benefit of the doubt, afterall KM has (up to now) seen enough in him to pick him regularly, and he will be more aware of what the player does. OK you could argue what competition has he had I guess!hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 11:26 pmBlackburn have signed a striker apparently, so coukd we finally see Szmodics signing for us?!

That said, I found myself berating him on 2 occasions in the FD game on Saturday, when he made 2 bad errors which WILL be punished in a PL match.

Yeah I know, he was crap as always lol. At present I would be selecting Greaves / Edmundson as our CB pairing.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 11:26 pmBlackburn have signed a striker apparently, so coukd we finally see Szmodics signing for us?!

Maybe, although the B'burn manager did say recently that he needed more in attack regardless of the Szmodics sitch.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 30, 2024 11:26 pmBlackburn have signed a striker apparently, so coukd we finally see Szmodics signing for us?!

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Very happy with this, Davis is quality going forward, for me this guy is more solid defensively, good signing with Premier league experienceTown are reported to have agreed a £750,000 fee with West Brom for left-back Conor Townsend and the player is expected at the club to undergo a medical later today.
TWTD revealed earlier that the Blues were in talks regarding the signing of the 31-year-old. According to the Daily Telegraph a fee has been agreed between the clubs and Townsend is set to travel to Suffolk to undergo his medical and complete the switch.
The Blues have been after a left-sided full-back all summer with the squad having been light on out-and-out cover for Leif Davis during the second half of last season.
Townsend joined the Baggies from Scunthorpe in the summer of 2018, coincidentally also having been pursued by Town, then managed by Paul Hurst, who knew him from loan spells at Grimsby.
Since then, the Hessle-born defender, who is contracted for another year, has made 190 starts - 25 in the Premier League - and 23 sub appearances for the Hawthorns club, scoring four goals.
Townsend started his career with local club Hull City and had spells on loan with Grimsby twice, Chesterfield, Carlisle twice, Dundee United and Scunthorpe.
Following his second stint with the Mariners, he made his permanent move to the Iron in 2016, his form for the Lincolnshire side attracting the interest of the Baggies and Town, who finally look set to sign him, six years after their initial interest.
If the deal is concluded, Townsend will become Town’s sixth signing of the summer and is likely to join up with the squad at their German training camp.

Fully agree! Handy backup, and small fee in relative terms.

Let's be honest, we'd have mixed reviews about Woolfy, Burns, Edmundson, Broadhead etc if we were selling.

…. and in Blackburns position we’d be making it very difficult for Smzodics to move on especially after him having signed a new contract last year to the end of season 2025/26.

6 down 6 to go ?
A steady if unspectacular signing, but definitely needed.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Szmodics must get done? Probably time for the player to put pressure on the club, at his age it may be denying him the only chance he gets to play in the biggest league in the world.
So where are we short, centre mid certainly. As England proved, you can have all the talent in the world, if you don't have a pair of centre mids who can put their foot on the ball, you'll struggle. Our centre mids have been mega for us, but I keep thinking of their age and some of the players they will be up against.
If only we could sell Delap for £15m and get another couple of £7.5m signings!!
As you say Denny, loans to come, but you'd like to think there's a bit more in the kitty for key areas and you'd want them in soon to get bedded in to McKenna's way of playing.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Mike snd me did talk about why Woolfie is picked. Mike says it’s because McKenna likes him. I said fair enough but, Woolfie is no defender. Tbh I don’t know what he is. Yes he’s “comfortable on the ball”. So I’d agree the manager has him in the team and used his comfort on the ball abilities. But for me all he does with this “ comfort in the ball”, is receive the ball from the GK, walk forward with it 3or4 paces, stops. Puts his foot on the ball and waits to see if the opposition attempts to press. If they go, he makes a 2 yard pass to the RB, or occasionally to Burgess, only to receive it back immediately when he then passes it to the RB … he very, very occasionally made a short PD’s forward, but not often. That’s it. That’s what he does!AzzurroMark wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 4:38 amI must admit that I always try to give Wolfie the benefit of the doubt, afterall KM has (up to now) seen enough in him to pick him regularly, and he will be more aware of what the player does. “Defensively” he (for me),
1) Rarely if ever makes a challenge/ tackle
2) Rarely makes a commanding / effect header
3) Fails to dominate his opponent in the box,( absolutely zero physical presence in the box).
4) Rarely closes down ( in fact ALL he does is constantly drop back, and back and back,) deeper into the 6 yard area.
5) He’s not particularly quick. If he loses possession he’s done for.
I don’t really think he’s a central defender. But I can’t fathom what position he is suitable for where there are better players at the club for defensive midfield.
Lambert and Cook didn’t fancy him as a main CB perhaps for the reasons above.
I honestly can’t see why some fans on twtd place him on such a high pedestal. Even the much maligned Chambers is twice the CB Woolfenden has even been.
Stepping back from Woolfie, I am still not convinced we have enough defensive quality in the door yet ( especially central defenders).
From what I’ve seen so far I’d say Greaves / Edmundson is the CB pairing. Going forwards I can see Greaves / Axel being the two CB’s .
If McKenna went for 3 at the back I’d be going
Greaves / Edmundson / Axel ….
I know people think I’m harsh on Woolfie but I just don’t rate him. But as you’ve said, we’ve had no other viable options to challenge him yet. But if he’s starting the first two games, which I think McKenna will do, I’m hiding behind my hands frankly.
The other really important area to sort is central midfield. Morsy is awesome but he’s getting on now. We need a version of him 10 yrs younger.

For me that is the elephant in the room at the moment. Not a lot of that at the club.
Going to be a huge fight to stay up IMO with what has come in the door so far.
Was always going to be anyway.
Having said that i think Town can stay up. 4th bottom will do though i think the ambition will be higher

Is Burgess at the club anymore?! I always saw him as the best center back we had. Well we have strength in depth there now, I'm sure McKenna will make things work with what we have, I don't see us bringing in another one with the 4/5 we already have. Can add Baggott to that too I guess, but I'm sure he'll be out on loan.

I think youll find Greaves is probably stronger ( based on what I saw in the FD friendly)... it'll be interesting to see what McKenna decides to do with the defensive squad--ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:56 pmYeah, I thought Burgess was our best CB. Burgess was the best of a bang average group, Greaves is light years ahead of anyone else, he was imperious at Hull last season.

Could this be worth a punt or is it too much for us to spend. If the price quoted is right it looks good business to me.
“With just a year left on Ivan Toney's contract, Brentford may look to cash in on the striker but with a lack of suitors he could be available for around just £40million.”

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
I’ve always been an admirer of Manchester United’s Scott McTominay who I understand Fulham have made a second bid for thought to be £20m, At that price I’m surprised Kieran hasn’t been sniffing around.
