I would be very surprised if the Two new signings are in the squad for Saturday

Agreed - I’m sure even if they signed today it would be tough to register them in time
Also the fact they wouldn’t have even trained with the squad makes them unlikely to feature.

Aye they will be the same supporters who wanted rid of a manager who had overseen their most successful period in years. Think they may have a lot more to worry about this season. My outside bet on one of the so called "no chance" teams of being pulled in to relegation battle.Mariner67 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 9:18 pmSome Wet spam supporters have been saying he will not improve, he was bad last season & responsible for alot of poor results & the sacking of their manager.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 8:39 pmIt’s looking like Phillips will be will be here, just waiting for official confirmation. He hasn’t performed well recently, but I see this as an astute signing by MA and staff. Phillip’s will be chomping at the bit to prove his doubters wrong, and under KM’s tutelage I can see him regaining his form.
Well sounds like he was a scapegoat & probably didn't like the taste of Jellied eelsthey were negative towards Ben Johnson also.
Phillips is a superb signing for Town and with McKenna as coach will hopefully be back to his best. Also Ipswich is a good club for him to get back to his best. For me could be the one main signings that is instrumental in Town staying up.
Like the signing of Szmodics also. Seen of look of him on SKY and looks like a player who can score at any level. His movement is superb and he sniffs out chances. For me he is worth the money. Why haggle over a million or 2 !
Transfer window now bottoming out after the usual nonsense.

So assuming Phillips and Szmodics are done we now could do with.....
CB
CM
LW
ST
Being greedy but probably needed.
I'm guessing maybe.....
Ahmedhodvic
Cajuste
The striker I have no idea on, would like Clarke or the Burnley guy as the winger but that's me being greedy.

Sky still saying we are in talks with Broja for a loan but early stages and Szmodics has passed his medical.

EXCL: Jens Cajuste has just accepted to join Ipswich Town after club to club agreement with Napoli.
Understand it’s loan move with buy option clause to become mandatory under certain conditions.
Cajuste, in England for medical tests and contract signing.

Very much liking the look of this. Within about 24 hours (& subject to confirmations, of course) our midfield has transformed from looking very weak to one which gives us a fighting chance.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:00 amHe's coming to join Town it seems

Exciting times and although I was confident of Town staying up I'm even more confident now we have secured these players, I just hope that Szmodics can score ten or more league goals this season which will prove it was all worth it.

On the Cajuste one we should note well that the loan deal with Napoli was agreed 3 weeks ago. Please let us remember that we have a quality team that has been working hard all Summer long.

If the signings shape up then Morsey IMO may not be used as much also. Not sure Morsey will step up tbh, we will see.

For me Luongo will be back up while the other Three fill the Midfield, not looking great for Taylor now.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Ipswich Town is thrilled to announce the signing of Sam Szmodics on a permanent transfer from Blackburn Rovers for an undisclosed fee.
The forward joins Town on a four-year deal following a successful campaign with Rovers where he struck 33 times in all competitions, earning the Championship Golden Boot and a place in the Team of the Season.
The 28-year-old began his career at Colchester United where he scored 38 goals and assisted 16 times before making the move to Bristol City in 2019.
A loan spell at Peterborough United soon followed for Sam, who made the move to the Weston Homes Stadium permanent in 2020, becoming a key part of the team that won promotion from League One.
After a positive time at the Posh, Sam signed for Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2022, where he made over 50 goal contributions in his two-year spell at Ewood Park.
Sam also brings international experience with him having made his Republic of Ireland debut against Belgium at the Aviva Stadium earlier this year.
Sam, who will wear the number 23 shirt this season, told TownTV: “I am delighted to be here as an Ipswich Town player.
“There’s always been interest since I was a kid, but it just felt right this time with the challenge of the Premier League. .
“After speaking to a couple of the lads, including Lewis Travis who was here last season, they just pushed me and said that I need to come and work under this manager, which is something I can’t wait to do.
“It’s every boy’s dream to play in the Premier League and I’ve always said to my friends, family and agents that I’ll get to the top one day.
“There’s nothing more I want than to score at Portman Road for Ipswich Town. I am over the moon to be here and looking forward to the season ahead.”
Town Manager Kieran McKenna said: “We think Sam brings a lot of different qualities to the squad and is an experienced player who has worked extremely hard over the years to improve his game and to become more and more effective as a player.
“That was shown last year with the fantastic season he had at Blackburn with the goals he scored throughout the campaign, including one at Portman Road of course.
“He has a real feel for scoring goals and works so hard for the team both on and off the ball. He knows many of the players here, as well as some of the staff and has ties to the club and to the area.
“This is a move that works for all parties and he has rightfully earned the chance to play in the Premier League, which I know he is delighted to do at this club.
“His arrival gives us another really versatile forward player who can operate in different roles and systems, giving us a big goal threat and plenty of other qualities to add to the team.”
Sam could potentially make his Town debut when Liverpool visit Portman Road on Saturday for the opening Premier League game of the season.

Everything about this player screams 'top of his game'. Clearly he has wanted to join us for most of the Summer and must have knocked back a lot of other offers in the meantime while the tough negotiations took place. We have acquired the Championship top scorer. What a coup!

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Well that's seemingly excellent, but doesn't McKenna now have his work cut out now?! Getting two midfielders up to speed and integrated without a pre-season at the club, one who has never played in England/Prem and the other who has barely played and proved his form/fitness for a couple of years at least.
On top of that he has to not disrupt a side who have great cohesion and team spirit, inside out understanding of his tactics, and excellent chemistry with one another. I'm sure many would have expected their places in the side to be in danger with moving up a division, conversations have hopefully/probably taken place to prepare many, but it doesn't make it any easier to watch someone take your place after you've done all the hard work of getting the club there.
Not a job I would want, some very tricky conversations, but as we've said, who better to try and achieve all that than McKenna??

Looking good - when all are fit and assuming that KM will continue to play one up front with 3 behind him, I can see the 3 behind being Hutchinson Szmodics and one other (on current form probably Harness) - the one up front I expect will be Ladapo (replaced by Delap after 60 mins). I think Ladapo will be the surprise package this season.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
I know quite a few of you thought we should walk away from the Sammie Szmodics circus but I’m so pleased we stuck with it because if he could just be the difference in us staying up rather than not.
Although it would be risky we could even see him on the bench tomorrow because he’s such a natural finding space to shoot at goal he doesn’t need to have had a lot of time on the practice pitch to score.
I’ve seen it happen before so don’t rule it out.

Wow, that's a wild statement Rossi, considering he was a flop in League 1 last season, and that he isn't the most mobile with it being a season where our forwards will have to do heaps of chasing!

… or even the Championship Ricco which I’m sure is what you meant. In my humble opinion the chances of Ladapo starting tomorrow are next to zero.
The only surprise for Ladapo would be if someone comes in with a late £10m offer for him on transfer deadline day.

Both really, but I meant the 15 odd games he had for Charlton with just a solitary goal.Charnwood wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 1:27 pm… or even the Championship Ricco which I’m sure is what you meant. In my humble opinion the chances of Ladapo starting tomorrow are next to zero.

Not bashing him, he's been a good servant for the club, but I'm convinced we'll definitely be bringing in another striker, and as soon as that happens, Ladapo will be loaned out or sold for not a lot. But I could be wrong and Rossi right.

I think Al-Hamadi has more chance than Ladapo tbh.
