Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
I’m reading lots of speculation about Ben Chilwell being on Town and Crystal Palace’s radar in the January transfer window.
Given this speculation I’ve moved my post on the subject from the Brighton match day thread to hear do it catches the right audience and maybe stimulate conversation. (See below)
As much as I like Leif Davis and appreciate how much he contributed to our promotion to the Prem I’m still not wholly convinced he’s a Premiership level defender yet and at times is often our weak link on the pitch and targeted by our opponent.
Whilst I’d pretty much guarantee Ben Chilwell won’t come to Portman Road on a permanent deal in January there’s no reason why he couldn’t come here on loan for the second half of the season with Chelsea paying the majority of his wages just as Man City are doing with Kelvin Phillips for a whole season.
I think McKenna’s profile is sky high at the moment and top clubs will be happy sending struggling players to Ipswich to revive their careers or simply increase the players value. Chelsea have already seen this first hand with Omari Hutchinson who arrived here as a young talent with a value of about £8m who struggled to earn a place in our starting X1 and 6 months later was one of our star players who’s value had more than doubled by the time his loan period ended.
I can easily see Kelvin Phillips career and value going in the same direction under McKenna’s guidance which will make acquisition of top quality available loan players much easier for us to bid for especially where their careers have been derailed for whatever reason.
Chelsea have already released 41 players so far this season either on permanent transfers or loans and they still have an excess and many of these players Chilwell included have plummeting values despite carrying high costs. If Chilwell hasn’t broken into the team by January Chelsea may well be happy to release him on loan and pay the bulk of his wages just to get him game. time. If they covered all his wages for the rest of the season it would be circa £4m, which they would easily recover in his increased value if he had a successful loan spell at another Premiership Club and where better could that be than at Ipswich with McKenna. If Leif Davis struggles at LB and McKenna sees this as an issue I could see Ben Chilwell at Portman Road as first choice LB as he won’t have lost his ability this quickly and he’s still only 27. I’ve no idea what’s happened at the Chelsea mad house as he only signed a new 4 year contract in 2023 and in August was appointed as the clubs new Vice Captain. I think there’s every chance it could happen if the player agreed to it and how Phillips develops could have an influence as could how well Town are positioned at the end of the year.

Personally, I don’t want an overpriced, Chelsea reject. I’ll take Davis every day over Chilwell. Davis is growing and becoming a better defender. To suggest he should be replaced is knee jerk.
I’ve criticized Davis, but his performance against Brighton is encouraging. Let’s see where we are in January before we start exiling the very players that have got us where we are.

Can't agree. We need the best left back we can get, we can't afford any less - that's not knee-jerk, it's just sense. I like Davis, but he is certainly nowhere near the finished article in terms of defending - if he had to be understudy to somebody like Chilwell for half season it would probably do him more good than anything.ITFC2024 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 11:34 pmPersonally, I don’t want an overpriced, Chelsea reject. I have heard on good authority that Chillwell we go to Palace, I play golf with an ex-Palace player Jim Cannon and he says it's pretty nailed on that Palace will sign him in the January window, But as I said to Jim things could change by then ??

Surely we’d demand upwards of £50m to even make it worth our while??Bluemike wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 6:02 amLazy journalism, balderdashhallamblue wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 10:18 pmLoad of ballderdash, or a likely event in Jan window?

Delap’s not going to want to sit on the bench at Chelsea week in and eeek out. If he was happy to do that he’d have stayed at Man City.

I don't think I've seen a more ridiculous story in my whole lifetime's experience of trying to avoid reading such utter drivel.

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
I can’t be arsed to read it but I get the gist of it. I guess the only foundation to the story would be Chelsea’s track record of hoovering up young talent way beyond their needs just to stop other clubs from signing them.
I’m 100% sure that Delap won’t be going there anytime soon.

I see we are heavily linked with a January move for Chelsea’s attacking Midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, sources apparently saying we've made an approach and are in a good position to make the deal.

Burns out Poku in?
But its the WRONG POKU in my view
I meant to say this the other week, when I saw Spurs vs AZ live there was this guy called Ernest Poku, he was VERY good. He was the total out ball for AZ, just give it to him on the left wing and he would run half way up the pitch with it, taking on about 4 players and get a shot off etc. He was a constant problem for them. Only 20 years old, its the sort of player it would be good to see us target if we go into that market.

It's another player, like Burns, that would be making a massive step up in class and as we all know some are finding it a bit much. I tend to think we may be shopping in higher profile places from now on.

I highly rate both!
I recon KM could make them both top players.

Rayan Vitor link 09:35 - Nov 21 with 771 views DecageBruce
I see we’ve been linked on the BBC. Ok, the link is from GiveMeSport so. It sure how much credence it holds.
A quick google and watch of a few highlight reels on YouTube show him to be a strong left footer who cuts in from the right, nice skills and a decent shot. 18 yrs old, transfer value circa £7m and from Brazil showing we may be extending our scouting.
Could be an exciting addition on face value

The link is from Ben Jacobs there who is a 'proper journo' in the transfer sense

Re: Transfer Rumours - New Signings for Towns Premier League Squad 2024/25
Oh, I think they’ll definitely be bids in for him in January… this would be the cheapest time for any big club to get him. He’d be bonkers to leave us atm though.
