Joe targets experienced midfielder

Post by Fully » Tue Apr 25, 2006 12:53 pm

Town boss Joe Royle is targeting an experienced, goalscoring midfielder to add to his squad after deciding not to pursue interest in Jimmy Juan.

The 22-year-old midfielder has been on loan from Monaco this season but still has a year left on his contract at the French club.

Joe told the Club website: "It's been a hard decision but we've decided not to continue our interest in Jimmy coming in.

"At his best, he did very well for us. Not at his best he was promising but not yet ready for a regular place in the team and that's what made up my mind.
"We need now. We don't need tomorrow. We have lots of tomorrow. We have a very exciting Academy and lots of exciting young players who we hope will be tomorrow but what we need now is the battle-hardened player. Probably someone who scores a few goals from midfield and will take us on to the next level."

Kenny Luny would be amazing! But i wouldnt class him as a goal scoring midfeilder, He is more the playmaker he would be the replacement for Currie, And what a replacement! :D

Funny you should say that. Joe said at the Awards night that Tommy Miller may be coming back. He has definately approached him and he has indicated he would consider it. He also said he was sure it would happen.

He also told me not to tell anyone and he HAD been drinking at the time.

Sounds good! That would definately explain why he's let Juan go....would be great to have Tommy back....a sound penalty taker and a goal scorer...hopefully he'd be able to play in the middle too coz we'd have Williams/Peters at RM........ im getting carried away lol :?

Yes, getting Miller back would be great ! He is a 10 goal a season midfielder which we have missed this season.

providing we get 10 penalties

lets be serious here, he was never the player he should of been, as attacking midfielders go i though he was very average ( yeas i know im not a regular at PR but its just my opinion)

Yeah he may get 10 goals a season of which 5 could be penalties - but I for one was never a fan of tommy miller - it could well have been because he was played out on the right - but for me Tommy Miller went AWOL far too often in games!!!

Personally I felt Juan had a lot more to offer in terms of all round ability and unless you are packing the midfield out you need 2 central players who can boss the game, and get things happening!!

I can honestly say I had never once seen Tommy Miller grab the game by the scruff of the throat and take it to the next level - this is what we need for the future!!

Why would Miller leave the team he supports though after just one season? Sunderland will be in a lot stronger position than Town will be next season, I think Joe was talking out of his arse plus he was pissed anyway

One of the main reasons he moved to Sunderland was because that's where his wife is from.

Hardly a goal scorer and the wages would be WAY too much, The most in wages we can offer is around 6.5k a week
Holland must be on at least 16/20k a week. Bit of a step down hey.

Lunt, Mahon, Fuller, Shittu etc are the sort of players we should be trying to target but cant see us signing anyone like unfortunately. Im not sure whether its good or worrying the fact the likes of Jim, Horlock, Juan, mceverley, Sito and possibly Price wont be staying because if Royle doesn't have anyone lined up we could be in deep sh*t next season

I think these Town players are being shown the door precisley because Joe HAS targeted certain indiviuals - but needs to clear the decks before he can make an offer.....he does have experience of rooting out good players (yes he has also got in some right pile of cack too)....But Lee is the most recent example of a "steal" ...and he did previosuly get in the likes of Mahon so there can be no disputing JR can pick up good players.

Like someone else has already said, lets wait and see who he gets in for next season - then holler !!

Its got to be good that we're sorting out our squad for next season tho.....too often in seasons gone by we've missed out on decent players because we've not known who's gonna be staying and going.....hopefully that wont be the case this close season
