Knudsen had made it clear he wanted to leave, so I don't think offering a new contract would have changed anything. It certainly is sad that people view him as our best fullback...I'm not disagreeing; it's just sad.Andym wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2019 2:20 pmIt is unfortunate that, at a time when the squad need a thinking, we have lost what us in mg opinipn the only decent fullback we had. We should have offloaded last Summer... and I think we would have, but so many other senior players decided to leave at the time.
I made the point previously that the squad is still too big yet needs strengthening. And it'll be hard to offload anti e except the better players who other clubs might want.
Personally I'd have tried to extend his contract in the hope of selling rather than letting him walk away. And if he stayed, then play him. I am aware many others disagree.

Bluemike was speaking of relegation nutshells the other day re Sears. There must be two relegation nutshells, K-Nood being the other.
Like 9, not disagreeing he’s the best at ITFC, but (on SKYTV) he’s a headless chicken and a liability.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2019/20 Season
It's hard to say he's the best, for me he edges it defensively and considering he is an international player against Kenlock who is a fairly new youngster coming through that isn't good enough, he's marginally better at defending, Kenlock will improve, Knudsen definitely will not. Going forward Kenlock leaves him standing, he also has a much better delivery, better passing and for me is positionally more astute, when attacks break down Kenlock busts a gut to get back where as Knudsen walks/ambles. You decide who's the best but that's how I see it and I believe it to be accurate.

I think Knudsen will get another club, but I think it will back in Europe.

I’d be stunned if we got that amount for him. Great business if that’s the case. Are Birmingham in a position to offer that amount for a GK? They got stung badly last season over FFP.

Have read some reviews from Gillingham fans about Holy. As usual some rate him, some don’t.
Tbh don’t know a thing about him but would imagine that he is not signing for us to be our number 2 goalkeeper. Maybe there is some substance in the Bart to Birmingham link.

Looks good in the video( but they always do )but I think I would have preferred Pym from Exeter, still only 27 years old and I'm sure he will be OK.
He will sign a two year deal with a year option next month.

I had noted that too. Chuck in our shambolic defence & I can see some proper keystone cops moments

Hadn't realized that. Seems suitable now the Kent team would permit his departure.Ando wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 5:29 pmDeal is done

Then again how many games did he feature in. Bottom line it's a new face and the imposing figure should provide some moments in goal. Once again height or size is no guarantee of success but allow him time to settle in, mix with a new team and area, maybe there's some promising times ahead for the player. Still need further additions to the squad and to get rid of some of the dead wood within the team set-up, if we're really to challenge next season.

Just looked at the video some top class saves in there.
How many more would the Gills have conceded without those.
We just need to sort out OUR defence build from the back concede less than you score. SIMPLES.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2019/20 Season
It's always dangerous to look at stats for keepers in isolation because a keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him. i never understand people who say a keeper is on top form because they have kept 15 clean sheets when half the time they never have any meaningful shots to save.
What's unlear is whether he's been bought as our number 1 to replace Bart.

Spot on the last Two posts, looking at stats mean little in respect of a keepers past, I mean Bart was player of the season Three years in a row and in truth is poor in 75% of a keepers duties, it's just the world class saves that give him his reputation.

I think he’s here as our number 1. Can’t see him making the switch to be Bart’s back up. This guy has the option to hang around waiting for other offers, but it seems like a pretty decisive deal and I would expect the major part of the deal was he is to be our new number 1.
I’m sure Bart will be off in the next week or so.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2019/20 Season
I've said before that Bart's success under MM was due to our style of play. We made fewer tackles than any other team, we just funnelled back which encouraged teams to come down the middle and shoot. And Bart was a very good shot stopper. Once MM went and we tried to tackle sooner, we allowed teams to get at us n wide areas and cross the ball. Bart is hopeless with crosses.
But overall, the most accurate comment is Blueblood's. It doesn't matter who we have in goal if we lack pace in central defence and lack fullbacks who can defend and block crosses. Our relegation was not due to a single weakness, but weaknesses all over the pitch. A defence that can't defend, a non-existent strike force, and a midfield largely lacking creativity. There were signs of improvement in midfield but we need significant improvement in the personnel at the back and front if we are to mount any serious challenge.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2019/20 Season
Wasn't there talk of Bialkowski being offloaded for one and half million. Don't know, just seems a bit derisory in today's market. Sure he's had his problems but over time has proved a valuable part of the team. Understand he's at this moment part of a club side in the third league of the game but even so would hold out for a little more on his transfer value.
Side with others opinion that the name will indeed part during the close season with the Gillingham player coming in as first hand replacement. Guess Gerken will be again restricted to back up duties and appearances here and there. Going to be interesting to see how the new face will adapt to a new team and environment, such are the demands for next season and expectations from some that we'll be challenging for automatic promotion and all.

Gerken’s left, SJ. I think 1.5 million is a bloody good sum for a GK who’s had the season he’s had. It’s not just the transfer fee, it’s the wages. It’s a chance to get a big earner of the wage bill.saint jude wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 2:56 pmWasn't there talk of Bialkowski being offloaded for one and half million. Re: Transfer Rumours Thread 2019/20 Season
Pompey are targeting striker Ellis Harrison for a third time.
The 25-year-old has twice previously been the subject of Kenny Jackett interest during the last 12 months.
Now the Blues are eyeing another move for the Ipswich attacker.
Harrison was initially in Jackett’s sights last summer, while a Bristol Rovers player.
Yet Ipswich emerged as the winners in the race for the forward, who netted 49 times in 204 games for Rovers.
That July 2018 switch cost the Tractor Boys £750,000, but it proved to be a frustrating season for Harrison.
Pompey again pursued him in January, in a prospective loan deal with the Championship side.
However, that deadline-day interest was unsuccessful, with James Vaughan instead arriving at Fratton Park.
Now, following Ipswich’s relegation to League One, Harrison is on the radar once more.
He scored one goal in 17 matches for the Portman Road club last term.
But Jackett remains a long-term admirer and interest continues.
