Here we go, the first taste of action, probably means little but as the article says it could tell us One or Two things early doors.

I suppose the formation we play could be most significant. Most likely same as before with one up top and two widemen. It’s not like we have too many strikers to have two up top anyway.
I’d be interested to see if Huws gets some minutes on the field. I just can’t see him surviving many competitive games before breaking down, though. He would be like a new signing if he could stay fit, but can’t see it.

A fit firing Huws would be massive for us in L1. With Judge and Edwards on the sidelines it will be an opportunity for others. Doubt norward will get much pitch time if any as he’s only just reported back. Will be interesting to see how Lankester gets on.

Someone explain this one....... paderborn first goal...... shot from just outside the box, cannons off the underside of the bar and goes in.
Holy is in goal. I thought he was f**king 6ft 9”? Can understand if the shot was 35yards out and he was off his line......., but just outside the box? Wtf was he looking at?

No worries excuse needed. German top flight club against an English third tier club... 3-2 seems an ok result even though it is all about the fitness and ‘only an friendly’.

Always an exception to the rule, on the other hand Bart possibly kept a clean sheet as he had Chambo in front of him.....

It's often not an individual thaf performs well or badly but a combination.
I know I've been very critical of Kenlock defensively, although I accept he had little support in front of him. Chambers has taken stick. So has Bart. Unfortunately our best performing defenders have been loanees, which is why I do fear for the coming season. I don't agree with SJ here, I think any tram that attacks us will have little problem in scoring. Unless we strengthen through new or loan signings, the defence is significantly weaker the last season, and we kept precious few clean sheets then.

Re: First Pre-Season Friendly 6th July....
Just reading comments from Lambert, I can’t see many more new players are coming here. I would have thought at least 1 striker and a wide player are more likely than a defender. Have to say I thought James Collins made an immediate effect to the defence when he first came here... pity his body isn’t up to it.Andym wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2019 11:00 pmIt's often not an individual thaf performs well or badly but a combination.

You’re probably right we’re weaker than before. The major thing, for me, is how much weaker are teams in League 1? New territory for us. It’s still early days, but I’m setting up more cautiously for a season of transition rather than immediate promotion. Lambert’s mentioning the youth a lot and if we’re going to rely far more heavily on youth then it will take them a while to adapt. Or they’ll have to learn damn quick.

Town lose 3-2 to Bundesleague side:
Now for the not insignificant background info , which puts the game / result into perspective!
Apparently the team coach arrived very late for the game as had a long drive (3hours+), to the changed venue. They arrived some 20minsutes late.
The players experience:
So after a 3hr + drive , you get off the bus and quickly into your kit before going into a game, where your opponents have had the “ luxury” of a settled , stress free warm up.
Town concede 3 quick goals in the back of that pre match preparation, shocker. Oh, and the team were absent 5 normal first teamers.

Obviously need to sign a new coach driver then along with a striker.hallamblue wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:19 amTown lose 3-2 to Bundesleague side:

Should include a sat nav as well. Come to think of it that would not only help in getting to the ground quicker but also may assist the strikers in locating where the goal is.tangfastic wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:54 amObviously need to sign a new coach driver then along with a striker.hallamblue wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:19 amTown lose 3-2 to Bundesleague side:

Re: First Pre-Season Friendly 6th July....
By all accounts, it was a pretty useful warm up. The results shouldn’t matter that much, but glad it wasn’t a drubbing which maybe looked on the cards after going 3-0 down.
Interesting to see Nydam at LB. And Bailey Clements playing wide left. Would have thought the obvious choice would be to put Clements at LB seeing as that’s his normal position. Maybe Nydam will be converted to a LB. Bit on the small side, but he’s tenanacious.
Good to hear that Huws put in 45 minutes and even put in a couple of hefty challenges. It doesn’t sound like he was hiding and protecting an injury.
These friendlies don’t show the whole picture, but hopefully we’ll see Norwood, Edwards and Nolan next weekend. Maybe Judge.

Beggars belief that anyone with an ounce of Brain is even looking at the result.

Re: First Pre-Season Friendly 6th July....
Why is that then ??
I am sure that even though most of us realise that it was only a friendly, the majority of Town Fans with an 'ounce of Brain' would wish for us
to win whatever..
Especially those on tour with the team..

Because it was basically a training session with half our better players missing, Hallam has also pointed out some very valid points about the preparation, it's not rocket science.

But no-ones made any negative comments about the result?
We all know it’s a friendly.

If I was a travelling Ipswich Town supporter next season, my biggest fear would be losing at somewhere like Wycombe Wanderers and their fans singing “Who are ya!”........ that’s a very real fear. Like Alloa fans singing it to the mighty Hibernian. You feel like heading home and sitting in the garden shed undisturbed for a few weeks.
