0-3 Game Over
Letโs hope and PL gets rid of selecting a team with a lone striker.
I know Southend are bottom of the table but we do so much better with two up front.

Just get back to settled side you know the one that went so long without conceading.

Well pleased with that Todd i bet
Looks like we were attacking a lot by the stats with the shots we had,18 and 9 on target.. Get In there Norwood and Jackson.. Two up front and especially with these two really is way to go

Re: Southend United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
We played a 4-4-2 as per 3-5-2 ... thought it worked out well.
Great to see Norwood and Jackson together- they worked hard and got the goals. Norwood needed those more than Jackson and took the chances well.
I have to say- and we were playing the worse side in the league- but I liked the 4-4-2 with Nolan and Downes as the central midfielders. I thought Nolan pulled a lot of strings and got us moving forward better.

Nothing much to add. The result was pretty much what most of us expected. Onwards age upwards.

Good result, glad Norwood is back, what worries me if we lost him totally, if he is out we are going to struggle, any thoughts?

Only down side, that was Downes 5th booking and he is suspended for the Rochdale game in 10 days time.

Re: Southend United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Th
First half I thought Mick had come back as we played so much long ball.
Bit better 2nd half as we kept the ball on the deck more. Bit of a concern if Skuse and KVY are missing for the Rochdale game due to injury and Downes being suspended.
A much needed win but we will need to play a lot better than today in some of the fixtures coming up otherwise it is difficult to see us getting much out of them.

FOOK me he's only just got back from injury Del Boy, bloody typical just because he's very competitive, still its only one match, then he;s back to zero Yellows,derick_ipsw wrote: โSat Oct 26, 2019 5:59 pmOnly down side, that was Downes 5th booking and he is suspended for the Rochdale game in 10 days time.

Re: Southend United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Just back from Sarfend (did a Chinese with Bluemike n Aylesbury Blue after the game), good way to celebrate
Well played Town. We can only beat whatโs in front of us as they say. Playing a 442 from the off and giving a full game to Norris between the sticks at boot. The game was its usual frenetic style for this division, with The Shrimps drawing first blood, only to have it ruled out. Thankfully.
What I did like t9day was how we coped when two injuries saw Skuse and then KVY depart from the field of play. On came Wilson who slotted in at CB and the ever impressive Woolfie take up right back position, without a break in his impressive stride throughout the game. I would also add that with Nolan coming on for Skuse, the midfield actually took on a more penetrating, forward momentum look to it. The midfield of Downes, and Nolan just oozes class and domination for me. You have to wonder how players like Dozzell and even Bishop will ever get back into it tbh ! The booking Downes received in the first half was laughable . He got the ball all day long. And emphasise the gulf in decent referees at this level, when you consider the horrendous tackles flying in from Rotherham midweek that went totally unpunished.
Town had a real purple patch midway through the second half (we simply cannot control games for a full 90mins yet), and Southend simply couldnโt live with us, as we finally found our feet and played the ball on the deck for prolonged period stroking it around the entire pitch, with players making darting runs into space, playing one touch footie. Nice to see.
Special mention has to go to Towns unsung hero. Kayden Jackson. He was my MOTM, chasing lost cause all afternoon, pressurising defenders to give up the ball cheaply, and my fav goal was his , simply because he so bloody deserved it and it meant a lot to him and the team , who celebrated in front of the travelling 2,500 Town fans. We really should sort out a song for this lad. He has done so well this season, and fully deserves all the plaudits that come his way.
Jackson and Norwood are definitely a natural partnership. You can see that are building a really good understanding, and Lambo would be daft to break this up. And Iโm not sure , as it was up the other end of the pitch to where we stood, but I think Norwoodโs first goal was almost a one on one with the GK.But the assist was definitely that man Jackson .
In defence, Chambers was on the end of most balls into the box and was always seemingly just โ thereโ, when he needed to be. Woolfie is looking more and more the mature CB, and is a thinking centre half, who always seems to have time on the ball. At left back Garbutt looked comfortable , as too did the effervescent KVY, until his injury saw him subbed.
Judge came on later in the game , and for once actually looked to be part of the whole, rather than just โ the Judge showโ cameos we always seem to get from him. Maybe heโs seen the light and decided to be part of the team and not trying to do it all on his own?
Finally, The player who left me feeling flat and disappointed was Edwards. Rarely does he light a fire in the team now. He is capable , especially at this level, of taking on opponents, but he doesnโt. Why?? He losses loss so easily , and often when the rest of team are committed further up the park. Iโm not sure what it is about him, but I cant remember last game he played where youโre left thinking, โyer, this guy is dangerousโ. Frankly Iโd be playing Georgiou ahead him every time. This guy DOES attack defenders and makes things happen, and he must be wondering wha he has to do to get in the team.
All in all a very welcome 3 points, and a game that could easily have been a lot harder than it was. So all credit to Lambert for trying a 442 when th8ngs had gone off the boil recently. Just 10 days now until we play again.

Re: Southend United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Probably a number of Chinese triads also. Missed the game and haven't seen highlights but game reports are good enough. Bottom line we got back to where we were and those pissing their pants over the recent 'setback' can rest assured any crisis didn't come to pass. Showed character to travel to a local derby of sorts and come away with something of a comprehensive victory. Seems we rely on one or two players too much to get the results required but this game needs a team effort. I'd imagine a good number traveled south today due to the close proximity of clubs involved.
Congrats also to the English Rugby team on their victory. Must have provided a lot of pride and honor with what reads one of the most enthralling performances ever. Credit where it's due they could prove worthy winners when the competition is finalized in a short time.
