Given the conditions it’s probably a good result

Re: Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
A lot in the first half . Middle of pitch became waterlogged , ball wasn’t running and I could just see us giving it away and losing out to a goal. We were on top until enforced weather break , but then took time to get our mojo back . If anything in 2nd half we mastered the windy conditions better than Oxford did .Steve and Jo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 10:57 pmHow much did the weather, pitch interfere with the game ?
Overall two evenly matched sides : hopefully both to go up .

We should be OK in Spain where we have 300 Mb Fibre, unlike Leicestershire where we were lucky to get 7 Mb for more money.

Pitch seemed to play ok after the delay. Wind played its part, we got more into the game after 10 mins second half. Thought we looked pretty solid but it was scrappy at times.Steve and Jo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 10:57 pmHow much did the weather, pitch interfere with the game ?
Had a few promising opportunities but the ball never really looked like falling to a spare player in the box.
Huws had another solid game and Keane looked better again.
Take the point and move on.

Good result but not great. Would have been more than happy to take a point pre ko.
Did Lambert really start with an unchanged line up tonight, surely not, is he learning ?

Agree should called it off when they had the chance. Under the circumstances will take the point.

Just the one enforced change with Keane replacing Jackson.
Same side again Saturday I reckon, if the game is on.

Re: Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Weather was truly awful first half. I thought overall we were the better side but conditions made it so hard to olay good football. One stray shot could have won it for either team. Ref was awful yet again. Deffo pen shout for Norwood first half and another tug on Judge (I think) in second waved away. Also, some great tackles penalised by ref for some reason. Would be interested in comments about Norwood. He worries me. Body language not great but he gets little service of any quality. He works hard but likes to theatrically fall over - sometime embarrassingly and the refs don't buy it. Brilliant save by Norris kept us in it second half and fairly solid all round team performance - albeit with few chances but the weather contributed to that.
Was good to see BlueMike again and the Town faithful were again there in numbers. God I want us to get out of this league this season though.... for those who were not there, trust me - take the point and move on. Most teams will struggle to win here as they have some decent forward players. COYB's!

I’m happy with a point and we actually looked in control of the game for long periods .

Yep, very true. Think they’ll be amongst the promotion places in April so definitely a decent point at their place in that weather.

Well seemingly the referee admitted it was a penalty.. Go figure
Think i have moaned enough this season about the officials. Not seeing the incident its not really proper to comment further
Point was good, three points though would been magic

Re: Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
AylesburyBlue warned us about all problems around Kassam Stadium. I didn't realise it would be that bad.
We thought the places like Reading or MK Dons were difficult ones to get in/out. They are nothing in compare to Oxford. Two or three narrow streets in the Kassam Stadium's proximity and big car parks nearby the stadium. Hundreds of cars and I thought: 'it is gonna be a huge mayhem after the game'.
I'd travelled down with the other northern Blue, we both have to be at work tomorrow morning back at North West and we had to make a decision about leaving the match a few minutes before the game. Never ever have I left an Ipswich game before the end even during the awfulness of Jewell or Hurst eras but this had to be done today. We left after 82 minutes.
Yes new ground for me last night but will be remembered for the negative reasons.
Brief summary of the game. A point is a decent result given all circumstances.
Positives:
- despite not creating many chances we looked like a team. It certainly didn't look like a team of strangers
- clean sheet against the team who have been so excellent at home this season
- Judge, three attempts from him in the first half. Quite commanding throughout the game and probably best I've seen from him for a while
- Woolfenden, best of our three central backs
- second half in which we played against the wind therefore I expected us to be under the cosh. But Oxford didn't take this opportunity and it was 50/50 between the teams
Negatives:
- referee. Sunderland fans had been saying that the standard of refereeing in this pub league is appalling and they were dead right. Stonewall penalty on Norwood, wrestlemania in their box but no reaction from the ref
- weather and conditions in general
- not creating many chances
- we missed Jacksons pace upfront as Norwood apart from that penalty incident didn't cause them problems
- Garbutt, nothing really positive from him and very wasteful
Step by step we seem to be gradually improving as a team in compare to some matches from the last 2 months. We would have easily lost it last month.

One of the highlights of last night was Will Keanes performance, i thought he won headers held the ball up well and also worked hard. I feel when we have Jackson and Norwood they don't really win many headers up top but Keane tonight did very well.

Yes I noted this too. I think this is the first time Keane has made this sort of impact in the team since he’s been here. He has some quality it’s clear and it shows ( especially last night, in awful conditions too). I also doubt he’s totally up to speed yet either.
This team, if kept together will probably hit very good form ( building up a real head of steam) over the last few weeks of the season I think .

Re: Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Well summed up by Blue Wilf and Mach, it was indeed a very good point in testing conditions to say the least and over all I thought of the Two teams we edged it without creating loads. This new style of play with Chambo and Woolfy getting forward definitely helps us to get more bodies in and around the box and although we didn't do it quite as much last night it's pleasing to see we do have different strings to our bow.
That was no easy place to go so deffo a point gained for me, decent efforts from Woolfy, Judge, Keane and Huws but as Mach says we are looking much more like a team again !! That's one really tough game out of the way.
On to Tranmere and these are the ones we do need to win, a decision to be made on Friday so i am hearing thank god. Good to see you too Wilf !!! Made it to bed at 1.45 which wasn't bad in the end.
One final thing how in gods name that wasn't a penalty is beyond me, how can a ref admit it was but didnt give it because he didn't give them a free kick earlier? You can't start evening things up ffs, thats cheating pure and simple. Robbed yet again. Onwards and upwards. Fab support from the Blue Army once more. Tranmere here we come. COYB'S

Think the ref is saying the first foul was in the same passage of play, even so why did he not blow then.

Re: Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Preview & Matchday Thread
Was never a penalty for me.
Sure, Norwood was fouled but only after he himself had committed a foul, so had the referee given anything it should have been a free kick to Oxford.
Good result given the conditions - but the game should never have been restarted after the stoppage. Both sets of players were deliberately not going in for challenges for fear of slipping and committing bad fouls - you can't play a proper game when players are not able to give 100% commitment and for that reason alone the game ought to have been abandoned.
But like I said - good result given the conditions - Downes and Garbutt extremely disappointing though.
