Diego Maradona

Post by arana peligrosa » Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:22 pm

There's a feature at 9 pm tonight showcasing Maradona on Channel Four UK which provides some eagerness to view. At two and a half hours running time it may test the patience for some but this promises to be a comprehensive insight into arguably the most gifted player of a generation.

Highlighting mainly the time at Napoli in the 1980's there will surely be coverage of the Mexico World Cup accomplishments and possibly a near duplication in Italy four years after. Marvel at how one individual became the most loved player in Naples to the most hated man in Italy in essentially
a short space of time. One of - if not the - greatest and accomplished player to have taken to a soccer field before coke and whores took a hand and obliterated an exceptional talent that should have offered more.

Worth a viewing if you can. One of a personal favorite of past players, shame that it ended like it did but much the same could be said of other names with similar ambition that don't really require elaboration. Only difference being they weren't quite on the same plateau as the Argentine. Few players can ever be labeled of iconic status but here you got at least one instance.

You're English with an elephantine memory / sense of resentment. Haven't people moved on from one instance 35 years back or whatever.

Viewed the program in it's entirety it were a very comprehensive look at one mans fall from grace and the subsequent years of downfall after a very promising beginning. Presented mainly in Spanish and Italian, the latter provided some trouble without subtitles but made it all the more authentic.

Some frustration they didn't highlight other chapters i.e. time at Boca Juniors, Seville, testimonial games throughout career but those minor things aside it were a fascination insight into one man's beginning, rise, fall and of how Naples in particular embraced one individual in almost biblical proportion before becoming a figure of hate. If you missed it it's people's own loss, but then again say this wasn't a player / individual for everyone.

Biases aside, vile human.

Because someone is good with a ball at his feet they shouldn't be held up as special and god-like. As we've seen recently, there are more important things in life than football and Maradona is a better example at failing at those than he is succeeding at football.

An Argentinian is by far the greatest footballer that has ever lived. It’s not Diego though.

Did someone just say Maradona is the best ever?...nah surely they didn’t. I still say Pele is the best striker and in modern times Messi is by far the better Argentinian. As far as best all round player, it has to be Cruyff. In addition to his superb skills and vision, look at what he’s done for football in general.
