Appreciate the need to look ahead and make plans but surely there are far too many unknowns at the moment for this. Really would be better to find a way to draw the line and think about how to organise next season.

I agree. I can't see how it can be safe for the players and officials. So long as we need social distancing it seems improbable.

I think with proper mitigation it’s appropriate to at least plan for a restart. It’s obvious if/when the season resumes it will be in empty stadiums. This can’t go on forever.

There’s got to be a point though when we push the button and try and get back to some kind of normality. Could be in a months time we’re over the worst of it and we need to push through it.
I would have thought that young fit sportsmen are probably in the category of least vulnerable so I’m not against behind closed doors games. It’s not just finishing of the season that’s important, but could be a statement of intent to re-start life again.

Anyway, my disclaimer is that I know f*ck all and I’ve stopped reading the newspapers about it all.

Tang, fair points but what about the safety of the players and their families? Why don't they have the same rights as the crowd?

Maybe if the vaccine comes in Sept as seems possible, then EPL can buy a batch and make sure all players, coaches, refereeing staff and other people who are required to be present are vaccinated. Short of this the same risks exist for them and their families as the rest of us.

I'd be very surprised if we have a vaccine before Christmas. I fear the moment we ease off the restrictions, the infection rate and therefore the death rate will rise. We either accept this is here for the foreseeable, or we accept that many thousands more will die.

Go back 50 years, people accepted death through illness. Cancer was a death sentence. Now we expect every disease to be curable. It isn't. But whether we can accept that is down to us as a nation and probably as a planet. The USA for example seems to think that the economy is more important than life....particularly, the extreme right wing bible-bashing pro-life brigade......along with their insistence on their right to carry guns. Sorry, getting political.

Not sure what your financial situation is, but many people in the US are having trouble feeding their families and paying their bills. Texas is opening in phases with the first phase staring Friday. Restaurants, Malls, Cinemas will be able to open at 25% occupancy with social distancing. Barber shops, salons, and tattoo parlors etc. will remain closed for now. For me that's an intelligent approach, and the Gov has said restrictions will be reinforced if numbers spike again. I don't think the reopening is a result of 'right wing bible-bashing pro-lifers' although there are plenty of them over here.

As far as the safety of restarting football, I'll leave that to the health experts...not to some 'left-wing, atheist, pro life, anti gun, mid-suffolker'.

People are restless out there, many swaying to and fro like tall grass in a high wind up with no sense of direction. Seems a hasty decision although nothing has been set in stone as yet. Doesn't concern us anyhow we're not EPL level, the only thing being one or two teams may achieve a potential honor that you would otherwise wish not to see come to pass.

Too many uncertainties for this idea to be properly implemented. Guess many have sat around with their thumbs in their asses for long than deemed necessary and seem compeled to undertake action. Looking at it in one sense as (they're insisting) "The virus issue isn't a priority as you would believe / we're beyond the worst of it : so return to action and play out remaining fixtures / little to concern yourselves with.

Would rather see the cancelation play itself out for the entire season and void the 19/20 campaign but once again there's going to be certain percentage out there by now so restless that commonsense comes a poor second i.e. finalizing a handful of games would appear a greater priority.
Bizarre but in no way surprising.

Number 9, yes in Dubai we have the same, malls open and restos all at up to 30% capacity. Also barbers are open (at last!) but not cinemas or other places of entertainment. Also mosques still closed (even in Ramadan) and no Ramadan family gatherings allowed over 5 people, no iftar tents &c &c. Wise early start. They are expecting to welcome back tourists from July 1.

I’m looking forward to barbers re- opening far more than the bars.

Can’t wait for a haircut. It’s a bugger getting older when you not only lose hair, but the grey hair at the side grows 10 times as fast as the rest.

At age 69 I’ve let my beard grow for the first time ever and my missus hates it, but to be honest I’ve just got to the stage where I can’t be arsed given I’ve been going nowhere. Rumour has it here that hairdressers and barber shops will reopen next week, I’ll believe it when I see it happen and if it does I’ll be at the front of the queue, ooops, no queue’s allowed.

Anyway back on subject and project re-start, I have it in good authority that the premier league are looking at restarting behind closed doors with all players and officials being tested before and after games, not sure how many days before or after to make it effective, maybe 48hrs either side. It certainly seems to be on their agendas to have a go and play however many games are necessary to settle European Qualifications and relegation places. If this isn’t announced sometime in May, I really don’t see it happening.

Personally i think wasting that many tests on footballers would be a disgrace when there are far more needy people out there who need the tests more.

The problem is football is like so many businesses around the world, it needs to restart as soon as possible. I imagine most of the 90 odd English football clubs must employ in the vicinity of 2-300 people? There’s 20000 approximate jobs directly. The test kits are starting to be mass produced and the cost is around 15 bucks a kit apparently which I am sure the clubs can pay for.

I know human lives matter, but the social, economic, the suicides and the other medical procedures that aren’t being conducted at the moment leading to early deaths are also need to start being considered in this discussion.

Vague rumours that the prem are desperate to finish their season but leagues 1 and 2 will be good. Championship also not keen to finish off the season as it'll cost more to stage matches to empty stadia than they'll receive.

So if that's the case, Norwich could finish bottom of a competed season but avoid relegation as there's be no one to be promoted to take their place!

Too many arguments will arise. If they award Liverpool the title, they must relegate Norwich ------> one of the many arguments.

My opinion only......., scrap it all. Pretend it didn't even start August 2019. Eliminate the 2019/20 records.

I WAS of the opinion that Liverpool should get their title as they were hundreds of points ahead of everyone and playing the best football seen for years......, but changed that due to the can of worms it'd open across the board. Scrap it all.

All leagues, north and south of border start again sometime near the end of the year, if CV19 hasn't hit a second wave.

I don’t wanna sound insensitive, but in my opinion the French solution is not acceptable. Fair enough, if it isn’t safe to finish the 2019/2020 season then so be it...but to proclaim PSG champions and cancel the season is a typical, French socialist reaction to avoid making a difficult decision. Fine, cancel the outcome of the current season. Here’s an idea...restart the season next year with points and league positions in tact. Sure, the final points tally will be obscured...but at least you’d have a better representation of how things may have panned out. Who cares if the accumulative points and games played are different than a normal season. Sure it will mathematically be one and a half seasons...so what? At least the final league positions will be representative of competitive matches, and not political conclusions.

The entire thing should be politically based around McDonalds & Greggs........, if they remain closed and their delicious gourmet food and coffees are not available, then f**k it, everything else should remain closed.

Incentive then becomes a big issue. Who wants to start a season knowing they have no chance? Ok for the close challengers but everyone else won't be giving a toss. Just scrap it. Easiest solution and everyone in the same boat. Go again 20/21 (maybe).

Footballers will just need to buy 250 brake HP car instead of the 500 until its sorted. I jest of course but maybe this virus has taught us all a lesson financially. It needed reigned in. It was getting insanely obscene.

Of course the majority of the teams would give a toss. It could be the difference between relegation or making the champions lg. What a great incentive it could be to stop the team miles ahead of every one else. Kind of like what Peterborough like to do to us!

Can’t see us completing the season in League One how it stands.

Promotion / relegation ... haven’t got a clue. Bolton would be loving the idea of a fresh start in League One.

Even for us..... I don’t think Lambert would be too unhappy for this season to be voided as far as his CV goes. Can you imagine if we were at the top of the division and the league was voided? Having said that - I’d love to see the league completed, but can’t see it happening.

I’m desperate to see things get back to normal ASAP, but can’t argue that football should be high priority.

If the season should be scrapped I can't see any reason why Liverpool shouldn't be declared champions.

But I can't see any point in playing matches behind closed doors below the prem. It doesn't make financial sense and will increase club losses. I can't see fans being allowed back in until at least the new year. So the season could be completed then, it'd just be the 2019-2021 season. I think i suggested this right at the start.

The major issue with this is players contracts. I guess you'd just have to have an additional transfer window (the summer) within the extended season.
