Pretty much as expected so far.

It looks like the clubs in League 2 have also agreed a framework for the Automatic Promotion places and the Play Offs which will still take place, all to be ratified at a further meeting next week.

League 1 clubs failed to reach an agreement although it’s likely further progress will be made next week. One possible solution if it’s decided not to finish the season is the likelihood that the Play Offs could involve 6 clubs instead of the usual four, what a bummer that would be given we spent most of the season in the Top 8.

Whatever the outcome it looks almost certain that the season won’t be voided and that relegations and promotions will happen.

We don’t deserve to be in any play-offs. If clubs from 3rd to 8th are involved .... then that is some kind of solution which would not only cut down the number of games.... but also meaningless games. There are so many fixtures which don’t mean anything. Have to say, we’d be in the category of teams who can’t go down or - bar a miracle - get in the top six. Our form from October to March was absolutely shocking.... we don’t really deserve to have a say in this and I think we’d be better off in League one next season.

Looking at the league... it’s so tight from 3rd to 8th that it could make sense. Though Rotherham in second place are only 2-3 points clear of teams 3rd to 8th. They’d be fortunate to get automatic promotion, but there isn’t a fair way of doing it. And
at the bottom, relegate Bolton and Southend and play-offs for the third relegated team.

At least it’s looking more and more likely that a satisfactory solution will be found that a majority of clubs are happy to sign up to including how to deal with promotions and relegations. With the season almost 80% complete this is far more satisfactory than voiding the season and 7 months results counting for nothing.

I think this outcome will also make the PL and Championship more likely to vote in favour of a return to action within the next four or five weeks.

I think you’re right. Whatever the decision, people have to understand that no decision will be entirely fair, but they have to find a solution to mitigate the level of unfairness. How the league stands at the moment, I’d accept we shouldn’t be involved in any play-offs. If the league started again, I’d put our chances of getting into the play-offs at no more than 10%. Maybe some might think it would be higher or lower. There’s a fag paper difference between 3rd and 8th ... so some kind of mini-tournament / play-offs between them is feasible and would resolve the league in a much shorter timeframe.
