Luke Garbutt
Luke Garbutt has signed for Blackpool? Now you have to ask why we're Town not in for him.

Re: Luke Garbutt
Town have been "in" for him and made several offers. The final one was left on the table for him. Guess there's only so much you can do.

Re: Luke Garbutt
Gut reaction ... not that bothered. We were in for him, I believe, and offered him a contract, but he chose to knock that back and look around for something better... like a one year deal at Blackpool! Decent going forward, poor defensively. Was a good free-kick taker - but we have Freddie on free-kicks now .
Not sure how much room we have to bring in another player with the salary cap anyway. I’d settle for another striker if Jackson leaves.

Re: Luke Garbutt
I ain't bothered either Tang, as you say defensively he was poor and Ward is far better in that department, yes we miss his free kicks but hardly a reason to sign him up.

Re: Luke Garbutt
I think Mr Garbutt is on the gravy train more than he's bothered about where he plays his football. TBH Ward is streets better than Garbutt and so frankly I'm not bothered about him returning to the Club at all. Its his loss.

Re: Luke Garbutt
Every time Ive been to Blackpool there has been delays at Preston. Hopefully that gravy train is delayed and he can’t play v Ipswich, Hallam. Those were fairly decent freekicks.
But....... not to change the subject......., with a goalie @ 7ft 6”, he should be tipping ALL free kicks over the bar. Even Lionel Messi’s. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt if it was Roberto Carlos, (even at his age now)....... but that’s about it.

Re: Luke Garbutt
GK’ s of 7ft 6ins , should be bloody CATCHING the ball marko, not tipping it over the bar. And Garbutt free kicks won’t be a threat if we don’t give away daft free kicks on the edge of our box

Isn’t Luke Garbutt a Northern lad ?... probably happier up there with his mates, nothing more than that.

Re: Luke Garbutt
He was born in Harrogate, Charny. I’m sure he was offered terms at Sunderland but for some reason it didn’t happen. You’d have thought he would have he’d have jumped at chance to join them wouldn’t you .

I think Sunderland are in the same boat as us with this salary cap nonsense

Re: Luke Garbutt
I’m not sure how he’d fit into the team anyway. We needed a solid genuine LB (which Ward seems to be). He’d be OK as a wing back, but we’re not playing wing-backs. He would have been expensive salary-wise, so he’d have to be a definite starter if he justifies his place in the squad and I’m not sure he would. We’d miss his free-kicks mostly.
Who knows ... but I bet he’s kicking himself that he didn’t take our pre- salary cap contract that was offered. Surely it’s better than a one-year deal at Blackpool.

Re: Luke Garbutt
You’d certainly think so Tang but some of these decisions are probably swayed by Agents and what they get out of it which is likely to be more when they persuade a player to change clubs.

Garbutt
Anyone else think he didn’t return here because of Lambert’s rotation system and fact he did play in his preferred position of left wing? It’s just the impression I got from reading this today really !

So Town were never in for Garbutt then. As my original question asked why not? Apparently to expensive yet Blackpool can afford him.

Re: Luke Garbutt
Or maybe they realised he was sh*t at defending and not worth keeping for Free kicks alone?

Re: Luke Garbutt
I’m actually FAR happier with our two players in the squad now, ahead of Garbutt. Ward is class and vast experience. Exactly what we’ve needed. And this kid from Bundesleague ( spl.) will inject s9me much needed pace in the team as we have virtually none to my mind.
Garbutt was very good / dangerous at set pieces. So it’s up to us tomorrow not to give away silly free kicks around the edge of our area (something we are very good at do8mg tbh), so we need to wise up.

Maybe, just maybe the club didn't rate Garbutt that highlyderick_ipsw wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:46 amhttps://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-new ... or-garbutthallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 11:28 amTown have been "in" for him and made several offers.
