My goodness that tugged on the heart strings. Did not know anything about this at all back in 2015. That is the saddest story read in a while. Such a shame for the guy. Going out and supporting a football team and losing your life. Certainly have read these types of scenarios in the past, more so happening in Glasgow, but Simon's story is an absolute shocker.

RIP Simon....., thoughts and all the very best and massive well wishes to your surviving relatives.

Absolutely disgusting and oh so sad. RIP Simon, but thinking also of your family at such a distressing time. Just the sort of incident that makes you question wanting to travel to a football match.

Very sad, needless waste of a life.

Spot on, Charnwood. It's why I ended "away days" many years ago after feeling very unsafe @ Rugby Park, Kilmarnock. There with a few mates and few kids. Wasn't a good day and thought that day, why am I doing this? A lot of bampots out there.

You’re right Marko, I’ve follow Liverpool in the Champions League at away leg games in Spain and had scary trips to Barcelona and Madrid, not sure I’ll do it again, too frightening and in my opinion an unnecessary risk.

Rise of the Footsoldier portrayed it as the Miami of the UK. Drugs, gambling, prostitution, although it were merely a movie series. In all truth it's not much more than any other recognized coastal resort in England i.e Bournemouth, Blackpool etc with it's sporadic crime statistics and isolated incident. Probably safer than other parts of Essex you could mention.

Back on topic and sorry to hear of Mr Dobbins demise. Hooligan elements in the UK seems resigned in the 1980s but unfortunately such a thing seems still prevalent. Total waste of life, just a man in attendance at a game to follow a particular team only to have it cut short by some (for want of better words) individuals.

Best to the surviving family, hope the perpetrators responsible received appropriate sentencing. Life should mean just that.

I th8nk it can be a bit suss, marko. Due to its proximity to London, there are also a lot of West Ham fans naturally in that area, and they are not exactly “ soft”, shall we say. I think the poor sod just wandered into the wrong area of town after what was I think from memory a pre-season friendly. All so bloody pointless isn’t it.

The CPS are now reviewing the case again, and I for one hope they go back in for those arse holes and do them for man slaughter.

Take it from somebody who lives in Essex - Southend is a bit dodgy but no worse than Basildon or Harlow or Thurrock.

There's a world of difference between South and West Essex (and to a certain extent North East Essex) compared to Central and North Essex.

Cheers Rossi, and  Frosty.

Remember being in Great Yarmouth when about 15 years old at a Hoseasons caravan park. Was an experience. Remember I beat another 15 year old guy at pool, he wore a Grimsby Town Top...... I said, “good game mate”...... he said, “fk you Scottish “c” “
Nice 👍

I have to say though that 15 year old could of been from anywhere in the UK. Great Yarmouth is like Blackpool, try and find a local in height of Summer season is damn near impossible. I stay away from the resort, prefer Southwold, Cromer, Caister or even Hunstanton but i have been to that caravan park for pool competitions Marko and yes few unsavoury people.

Must say there's few rough areas in Essex but like most counties some nice areas also

RIP Simon, nobody deserves what happened to you. Thoughts are with his family and friends

I’m guessing there’s a sh*t hole area in every County and a posh area not too far away. In fact if the Town Planners have done their work over the years that theory can probably be applied to every City, Town and Village across the UK.
