RIP The Doc, and Sympathies to his family, another true character of our game gone.
some of his quotes when we were awful in 1985:
"We don't use a stopwatch to judge our golden goal competition now, we use a calendar."
I remember the day he was appointed and we went up to the Molineux and I was one of a small group who spoke to him on the North Bank Car Park .I asked him if he would be buying any players and he said ‘ I don’t smoke son’
On arrival at Molineux...
“I opened the trophy cabinet and three Japanese prisoners of war fell out !!”
You gorra laugh ..( though not at the time!)
RIP Tommy Docherty

Hi John,.
Happy New Year to you,
Yes sad indeed, another of the characters I grew up loving to listen to. So sad. RIP.

Sad indeed. To be honest I didn’t realise he was still alive.

^^^ The Doris Day effect ^^^
When she died in 2019, most people were like, “What? She died centuries ago did she not?”

Re: RIP Tommy Docherty
I don’t remember him as a player but remember him well as a manager especially at Chelsea and Manchester United where he was sacked for shagging the club physio’s wife. At least he made it worthwhile by eventually marrying her which lasted until his passing. By coincidence Dave Sexton replaced him at both Chelsea and Manchester United.
