Get in!
9-0 away win.
Think that tops beating someone by the same score at home!!!

If Evans had tapped home from 6 inches out it bloody would have been 10

Soooo close, but great that we're now not the only ones. I thought with the 8-0 the other night that it may never happen, defenses becoming more professional every year. Good stuff.

So.
What odds would you have given that both teams that hold the record jointly had a Schmeichel in goal!

Amazing and was obviously the reason we didn't win 10-9 that day...

Just watched the match recorded earlier, brilliant result for Leicester City, but wow if only they could have taken that record off Man U. Like the rest of you it makes me feel sick every time I hear reference to our record defeat at Old Trafford.

By another strange coincidence I have a vague memory of watching, on TV in black & white, town thump 9 past Southampton at Portman road. Wasn't that an old Div 1 record too?

Re: Come on Leicester - is this the day?
Astounding. Was vaguely aware there were a game involving the teams but to learn of that score is something else. Can see why Leicester won the league a year or two back although guessing some of the names involved from now and no longer employed by the club. Town did conceded ten by Fulham years back just for the purpose of the younger generation but kind of a relief to see another team hit by the same score as ourselves back in '95.
Feel some sympathy for Southampton particularly on their own stadium. The price of being among the home support and listening to what was being discussed (and the language with it) would have been worth something and then some.

Would’ve definitely been worth something when it was 5-0 @ HT........ but @ 6,7,8 & 9-0, would’ve only been a smattering of Leicester fans at St. Mary’s. At 7-0, I’d guess a few attending Saints fans would’ve been home putting the kettle on.

Would not have known a damn thing if it hadn't been brought to attention. United had eight different scorers reports said. Odd thing is when Liverpool beat Palace in 89 by the same score sure there were eight different scorers that night also. Not going to check as pretty sure its correct.
United had only six until one of the opposition had another player sent off some three minutes from the end. They score another three in the time remaining.
I've moved on from the 1995 debacle years back, we beat them in the home game that season the fall before and there was a certain atonement at the end of season. Still waiting for the elusive 10 goal victory to come to pass so the record can be shattered once and for all, some other poor bastards can have themselves an infamous honor. Until then , we're still waiting.

Didn't we beat Southampton 9-0 once in the old division 1? Back in the days of Johnson & Whymark? Have a vague memory of watching the goals in black & white as a kid.

You're thinking of West Bromwich Albion and that was "only" by seven. They may have had Regis and Robson playing that time so more power to us.Dubai Blue wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 12:23 pmDidn't we beat Southampton 9-0 once in the old division 1? Remember a game a few years after when beating Southampton by five. Alan Brazil got all the goals that's something you don't forget. One of those second place finishes in the old First Division. (We) Really were good enough to win the league, it still grates even now the club didn't achieve it, don't think some of us will see opportunities like that again (!)

Thanks SJ for that. Yes I remember Brazil's achievement also. I'm sure you are right about that last point. Hard to see it ever happening now.

I was at the game when we beat West Brom 7-0, incredible performance, wasn't it Paul Mariner's first game? I remember after the game they Interviewed Broms keeper John Osborne and asked him what he thought of the goals, he replied "you'll have to tell me, you saw them, I didn't " we scored some real crackers.

Re: Come on Leicester - is this the day?
Great stuff, Tiny. That 4th goal....., from Burley to goal must be one of the best in ITFC history.
The game was great in those days.
In that clip, 3:14 & 6:53 (think those were the times) ..... Those are fouls in the modern game with the WBA player rolling around screaming. And because they're screaming, they're both yellow cards.
The game is sh*t these days.

I remember when we arrived at the ground couldn't get behind the goal as the terrace was completely full. A copper then directed us to the terrace alongside the pitch.Tinytown wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 11:08 amhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfmHW6bHXeI Happy memories. Injoy the goals.
I know one thing after Tony Brown scored their penalty that clock seemed to just stop until Warky headed the 3rd. What a day, one I will never forget.

Oops didn't look at the video just saw it was West Brom and thought it was the semi-final at Highbury.
Remember the 7-0 as well, Mariner's home debut and a fantastic performance. Will go back to sleep now.

I was like, "What? West Brom were 1-0 up before the 7 were banged in??"Shed on tour wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 3:10 pmOops didn't look at the video just saw it was West Brom and thought it was the semi-final at Highbury.

And Paul Mariner?? What can anyone say? Could watch Mariner videos all day.
Were you at an England v Scotland game, Shed around 1979? Finished 1-0 England and Dave Watson scored. Fairly sure Mariner was in the team, not sure if he was playing or on the bench........., but I remember saying out loud, "Wouldn't be THAT bad if England won because I really like Paul Mariner."
My late grandad said to my dad, "Get that laddie out my house when Scotland are playing England!"

No wasn’t at that one. Was at Hampden in 1976 when Scotland beat England 2-1 (Dalglish scored the winner when Clemence let the ball go through his legs). Mick Channon scored for England.marko69 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 4:04 pmI was like, "What? Mariner has always been one of my favourite players and had a long chat with him the other year when attending a tribute night for Kevin Beattie which was held in Clacton. Talbot and Gates were there as well and some of the stories they told about the Beat were great.

Re: Come on Leicester - is this the day?
Never mind the losing by nine nonsense.
Watching the United Everton game I learn that Town are the last team to go in down at half time in a top flight league game at Old Trafford and win.
Squares that up in my mind for now.
