Great signing if it happens and probably the captain in waiting, signing a championship teams captain and star man is quite something

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Yes I think you are right. If we really were as dysfunctional behind the scenes as PC seems to suggest then there are going to be a number of players that fall into this bracket. Others will just disappear of course. I still think we will see a lot more of this young man though.number 9 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 4:50 pmI think Dozzell will benefit from a new start, DB. I can see him moving on to a Championship club initially as a squad player, and then eventually moving up to become a regular starter.Dubai Blue wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 9:04 amI'll be really disappointed if Dozzell goes. I think he is a natural who at 22 has plenty of potential to improve even more. We don't have many in our squad with his ability and won't easily find a like for like replacement (if we are even looking for one). However it could well be that his head is no longer with ITFC and Cook would likely know this. In this case there is no point in doing anything other than using him to raise cash.
Still feel that with the right additions, Dozzell & Downes could be part of an excellent MF but maybe I have to move on.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
It does seem like there’s a lot in this. Whether we get him or not, we’ve obviously put in a serious bid for a captain of a championship club. I would have thought he’d be an obvious target for a mid to upper championship side. It’s going to take serious money and persuasion for him to drop down a level. Whatever happens, it looks like we mean real business.
I’m guessing putting effectively everyone up for sale means we have to generate some revenue so that we can work within the FFP salary limits.
And season ticket sales would also help a lot. If we can bring in someone like Bradley early, then that could be a way to boost season ticket sales.

Agree. Also if we can get him to join us , it would send out a serious message to all other players we are in for. Get a couple of good ‘uns through the door , and the rest will follow. But it’s a helluva “sell” by Cook/ Ashton isn’t it.

He'll certainly be on Ashton's radar. Question is whether he is on PC's.

Can’t say I know much about Eisa. Can he play the lone role? It was said he played well in a front two with Toney, but as soon as they went one up top he struggled. There’s no point going there if he can’t play up front on his own. That’s how it’s going to be in a Cook team. I think that’s why we kept Drinan as he can do the running and hassling on his own, although there’s no goals in him.

I would rather have an out of position Eisa than Drinan any day of the week.

Probably right there. Can’t say I know much about Eisa. I’m stunned that we didn’t let Drinan go. I think Drinan will be 3rd or 4th choice striker. If he plays for a reasonable amount of time next season - we’re f*cked. I can only hope he’s being kept on as a cheap option who isn’t likely to play much. I don’t think we can carry too many strikers in a squad when we play only one up top. Norwood plus a new quality striker and I’d be happy enough.

If Paul Cook sees something in Drinan that the rest of us cannot then I for one am happy with that.

I see Gillingham are reportedly interested in a fair few Town departed players ...good luck with that.
Also Wilson has joined Plymouth ( think id have kept him tbh ), unless we have specific targets to replace him , in mind

Players of the quality of Wilson will see us nowhere near where we want to be.

Agree, seems we are aiming higher. I think it will be quiet until end of the month then the rumour mill/links will go into overdrive once legally you can approach and sign players.
I assume if the rules state 60% of turnover can be spent on wages etc then its gross income not net income (as all clubs run at a loss it seems) - so our budget might be as much as £10m, and I see our wage budget was around £6m last season (inc the wasting of 18k p/w on Bennetts).
So I suspect we should be able to put together a mid table championship level (in terms of wages) squad if we do some smart business with free agents etc.
All theory of course! It *could* be the perfect storm........
- large number of free agents available
- many teams looking to perhaps tighten their belts due to the covid effect on their finances last season
- us having some fresh cash and keen owners
I suspect Football Manager 2022 will be a must buy for town fans

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
The fact that we’ve not signed anyone yet , do people think it’s coz of ....
1) Ashtons not started at the Club yet so no deals being done?
2) Contracts run from June 1st so no activity yet?
3) The players were after are under contract at current club and will need a fee to be agreed between clubs ( Ashton territory again)?
4) we’ve signed players in principle but just not announced it yet ?
5) there’s no R in the month , so who gives a stuff !

I assume transfer activity will heat up after Ashton arrives on June 1st.

Number 3 most likely, hopefully we'll keep our dealings quiet unlike past years. Wilson was a free agent so I guess Plymouth were happy to blurt it out.hallamblue wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 10:19 pmThe fact that we’ve not signed anyone yet , do people think it’s coz of ....

6. Players we want have turned us down or they’re keeping their options open.hallamblue wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 10:19 pmThe fact that we’ve not signed anyone yet , do people think it’s coz of ....

7. We’re too impatient- it’s still early days.
I guess we’ll find out over the next few weeks. I would have thought Ashton is already involved behind the scenes.

I haven't seen hardly any clubs announcing signings, it's too soon and if under contract until June not appropriate.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
I laughed out loud at that ......... but then was thinking the opposite tbh, as there will be a lot of pissed off Ex Town players with a point to prove coming up against us next season.rossi wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 8:00 amGood - that's 2 easy games next season thenhallamblue wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 5:55 pmI see Gillingham are reportedly interested in a fair few Town departed players ...good luck with that.

Possibly, but damn shame they didn't try to prove the point whilst playing for Ipswichhallamblue wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 9:25 amI laughed out loud at that ......... but then was thinking the opposite tbh, as there will be a lot of pissed off Ex Town players with a point to prove coming up against us next season.rossi wrote: ↑Fri May 21, 2021 8:00 amGood - that's 2 easy games next season thenhallamblue wrote: ↑Thu May 20, 2021 5:55 pmI see Gillingham are reportedly interested in a fair few Town departed players ...good luck with that.

Somewhat as an aside to your post Andy.
Elliott Hewitt to Mansfield, there was a player that we hoped would be a bright future as a RB from memory.

It would appear that Sonny Bradley (Luton captain) has chosen to extend his contract at Luton inside of joining Town. Shame. I think he'd of been a great signing.

Yip here it is ....he’s stay8mg at Luton....

Oh well that’s two that have turned us down. I hope Cook has an extensive list of potentials , coz being a league one club will take some persuading of our targets I think.
