Hmmm strange indeed, would much rather be seeing an experienced CB coming in first (all in good time i know).hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:57 pmTown signing Sone Aluko (Reading striker) on a freebie too…. Strange one ?!

Why is it an odd signing? If we get Aluko its fine by me, Jackson is clearly going, we need strength in depth, I doubt for one second there won't be a couple of defenders coming in soon enough. Let's just trust Cooks judgement and enjoy it.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Swansea City have emerged as the new favourites to sign Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes.
The EADT and Ipswich Star understands the Championship club have swooped for the 22-year-old after Town's long-running negotiations with Bournemouth hit deadlock.
The Swans lost in the Championship Play-Off Final to Brentford back in May following a fourth-place finish.
The Welsh club recently appointed Russell Martin as their new manager, with former Ipswich first team coach Matt Gill following him to the Liberty Stadium from MK Dons.
Downes was a star man for Ipswich during their first season in League One, then handed in a transfer request after the Blues rejected multiple bids for him from Premier League club Crystal Palace.
Following an injury-hit 2020/21 campaign, he was one of several players instructed to train with the club's Under-23s by manager Paul Cook.
It's likely the Blues will want a seven-figure fee for the homegrown former England youth international, plus add-ons, as was the case recently with the sale of Andre Dozzell to QPR.
Championship clubs Barnsley and Peterborough had also shown strong interest in Downes earlier in the window.

Yes, he was definitely the stick out best in a really shyte group. Certainly a player to keep an eye on how his career pans out. Decent sized club as well. Bet he's glad he waited.

I'm just wondering with some of these signings where is it going to leave Dobra, he's been doing so well maybe a loan but he didn't want to go out last season.

From what I've read, he's impressed in every pre season game. He needs a run in the first team, in my opinion.Kerry Blue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 6:03 pmI'm just wondering with some of these signings where is it going to leave Dobra, he's been doing so well maybe a loan but he didn't want to go out last season.
I like the sound of this Barry fella. I think he'll score a few goals for us.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Aluko has signed, and tbh this is the first one im not sure of, we seem to have an over abundance of front men.
I personally think defence should be sorted, just assuming there will be a few more incoming soon and this is far from the end of it.
I trust PC and MA so will wait and see, not griping just confused lol.

One year with an option that's about right at his age, he's never played in this division so you would think he would be good enough.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Ok, having read the stories on ITFC about Aluko signing, i tend to get where we are coming from - Experience! The sort of guy who can come on late on when we need to hold the ball up, slow things down a bit. Or on the other hand that little bit of guile to get that late winner.
I guess i was only disappointed that a CB didn't come in before the midday deadline (i know Aluko was after then). I know experience in defence will be added for definite before deadline day, adding much needed strong competition for places.

They are saying Swansea have offered £550,000 for Downes that's rubbish it should be double plus sell on.

With all these attacking players let's hope we score plenty because we will have to With Toto and Wolfie at the back. Please sign another CB.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
I would have thought we could at least get a million. Can’t see us getting 1.6 million. One less year on his contract, deflated market and his form last year wasn’t so good. Plus …. it’s obvious we want to sell him so that weakens our negotiating hand. I’d bite their hand off for a million. We should have sold a year ago, but then again that money would go to Evans and probably wouldn’t have been spent wisely. Same with Jackson…. a championship side offered a million for him last year. Crazy to turn it down.hallamblue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 10:39 pmWe turned down £1.6m from Palace so I doubt £550k will float Ashtons boat do youKerry Blue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 9:45 pmThey are saying Swansea have offered £550,000 for Downes that's rubbish it should be double plus sell on.

Re: Paul Cooks 1st Transfer Window rumour thread.
Anybody know what the squad limit is for senior players (over 21’s)?
I thought it was limited to 20 senior players. Maybe changed to 22.
We must be getting close to the limit and not counting the bomb squad. Coulson and Jacobs are two more that seem certain to join in the next couple of days.
An option is to bring in under 21’s like Barry, but we need experience. CB and another CM.
Anyway, I’m sure Ashton is on top of it.
