Lol Serini, well, ha was your classic continental GK, punch and palm the ball away rather than catch it . His kicking was always from his hand, oh and he didn’t like diving on frosted surfaces !! Remember him being a nightmare in the winter months - he hated it .

Bart . Don’t get me started on him lol. Fantastic reflex keeper, which was always very eye catching but ( IMO), had sod all else to his game.
Never attempted to catch the ball, flapped at crosses , didn’t command his area , total inability to kick the ball straight up the park ( it always went out of play !!) and never organised his back four ( rarely came off his line).

But that’s just my view .

I think his first season here was definitely his best and deserved his POTY award. But He had the
“ halo effect” amongst many Town fans thereafter, winning the POTY awards in the next two seasons when it should have gone to Tom Lawrence and then Martin Waghorn the striker that left us for Derby, in my view anyway .

In my view Bart was vastly overrated. He made some absolute howlers and I never “ trusted “ his basic handling skills .

Alexander was the best keeper we've had here
He was really good was the but went back home to Scotland …didn’t we also have another very good keeper in Polliet or similar name ? He ended up playing for Stoke?

This is nice EADT update on where McKenna stands on transfer activity in Jaunuary. It's also interesting to see McKenna's connections are more wide spread than whats been reported:

Strange that BB, I was trying to think back earlier today, when i5 was we had , what I’d call a proficient GK at this Club?

A few sprang to mind… they include,
Alexander
Davies
Fulop
Wright

Call me old fashioned, but I like a GK that can
Command his 6yard area,
Come for crosses
Catch the ball
Kick the ball
Organise his back four.

👍

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned Paul Cooper who in my opinion is the best goalkeeper ever to wear the Ipswich keepers jersey. By far in a different league to any other named in this thread and in normal times would have won a hatful of International caps, unfortunately England had an over supply at the time with Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence.

Getting back on track, if Walton would be prepared to move to town on a permanent deal, get him signed because keepers of his quality don’t normally play in League One.

Cooper wasn't mentioned as believe they were categorizing names here post-1992 i.e. the EPL era. Thought Lawrie Savell deserved an inclusion while at it. Roy Bailey can be mentioned also, can't leave the name out as won consecutive League Championships with us in the early 1960's.

Think sometimes Bialkowski left too early as he surely improved after leaving for London. Sereni, even to this day, can't always understand why we signed him other than cover for Wright's departure. The latter our most decorated of the last 25 years although one or two names have run it close in terms of distinction and establishing themselves as the foremost player in that one position.

I think Joe Corrigan and Phil Parkes were also ahead of Cooper at that time. That was an era when England had loads of quality goalkeepers.

He doesn’t count because he never played for the first team, but Nick Pope started at our academy before we released him.

Andy, Paul Cooper was the best GK for Town never to play for his Country! I always felt sorry for him on International weeks coz he was literally the only first team player still at the club .

Ps I think the BB’s post above asks how maa add my Town keepers played for their country . That link number 9 put up lists our players and the country they’re from , but only the ones highlighted on that list actually played for their country whilst playing for us . Hope that explains why I didn’t list more down #9 :D

Liz, my comment about Paul Cooper was a response to Mike’s earlier post saying “ Alexander was the best keeper we’ve had here”

Can you start a separate thread for the GK Talk :)

I think the striker situation is very interesting now, can we keep Bonne for the rest of the season at least? Will we keep Norwood but if he keeps this up he’ll be deserving a new deal and want good money (which would be fair if he keeps this up)? Will we see Piggot get some more minutes now we are playing 2 strikers, it’s unlikely Bonne and Norwood can stay fit and play every single game?
Lots of questions to find answers for.

I think we’ll have a much better idea of whether Walton and Bonne are go8mg to be our players by next Saturday. Walton I think was due a recall after the Gillingham game…Bonne, I don’t know if an actual recall was happening

Rumours we are interested in the loan signing of ManUtd defender Alvaro Fernandez!

Looks as though, for a LB, he has goals and assists in his locker!

If he is top draw I’m not against this, as seems Coulsen isn’t ready anytime soon. Penny is doing ok but we need another and I doubt Kenlock is upto it. Bailey Clements would be best to loan out I feel too, so it leaves us with LB being the most important gap.

Perhaps get this guy in for the rest of the season to compete with Penny and then try and find a decent free contract option to snap up in the summer.

With Brighton triggering Christian Waltons recall clause it could be he becomes Kieron McKenna’s first permanent signing. He’d certainly be very welcome.

Possibly Liz, however only saw it in a Saturday newspaper column. I then decided to check some online sites out, but didn't look at when they were actually reported.

Blues centre-half Toto Nsiala is being linked with a move to Fleetwood Town.

According to The Sun, the Cod Army, currently 19th in League One, are working on a deal which would see Nsiala join them on loan.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer, Town having taken up a one-year option on his previous deal in May, and his departure would come as no surprise.

The DR Congo international was signed in the summer of 2018 by Paul Hurst from his former club Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, who spent a spell on loan at Bolton in the second half of 2019/20, has made 71 starts and six sub appearances for Town, scoring once.

Makes sense if we want to bring in another CB. Looks like Toto has become 5th choice CB from being 2nd choice under Cook. Early days, but McKenna looks like he wants his CB’s to be comfortable on the ball. Not Toto’s strength.

Yep, if you want a CB that puts his body on the line by throwing your body in the way and heading away numerous balls then Toto is your man, wanting him to play the KM way is probably never gonna happen.

To be fair to Toto he’s cut out his red cards and giving away penalties. Doesn’t look the liability he used to be.

Just been confirmed. He’s going to Fleetwood permanently.

Good luck Toto… he’s a really decent bloke actually. And he’ll get game time there 👍
