Shearer retires

Post by rainman » Sat Apr 22, 2006 3:50 pm

So Alan Shearer has finally hung up his boots following an injury sustained in the North East Derby (which I think Tommy Miller might have had a hand in).

Despite his swipe at Town a few years ago quote "There are no easy games in the Premiership...unless you have got Ipswich at home" I do have some respect for this fella.

Shearer has never lived the celebrity lifestyle (infact everytime a TV interviewer goes near him seems very uncomfortable and quite boring!) but the thing for me that sets him aside from other players was in the 90s when he turned his back on Alex Ferguson and a guaranteed place in the Champions League and Trophies accolades with Manchester United to play for his home town club and finish his career there.

The bloke has been a model professional and should enjoy his retirement though I expect will shall see him return to football as a manager in the not too distant future.
