Stuart Watson at the EADT has now also run a story on the Morsy situation. Apparently Town’s promotion to the Championship triggered a one year extension clause that was inserted in Morsy’s contract last summer, meaning he still has 2 years to run on his current terms.

If he goes I honestly think I would lose interest in this season, only last night i remarked how crucial he is to us, you just can't make this sh*t up.

If Morsy rumours are true then so be it. Would be a huge loss to us though. He is a brain of the team, he is a proper skipper as prior to him we hadn't had a skipper for many years.

But football like every other environment is all about money. If he is offered a deal by Saudis you can't blame him for accepting this.

I agree. He would be a huge loss, and I think we would really struggle without him. But most of would go to a better paid job if head hunted, football is no different

He is 32 I think. A highly paid contact at this stage in his career may be too big to resist. Really hope he stays, but don’t blame him if he goes.

I hate what the Saudi’s are doing to professional sport it makes Sky TV’s contribution look trivial. At least Town would pick up a generous fee but looking at the downside Sam Morsy would be extremely difficult to replace both from his leadership ability and style of play.

Like others have said I wouldn’t blame him if he went to Saudi because unlike Jordon Henderson and Riyad Mahrez, our Sam won’t have enjoyed their huge salaries and this opportunity if true wound be life changing security for his family.

Of course nobody would blame Morsy for picking up a huge career ending paycheck but on a selfish level I'd be so disappointed, no man makes a team but he is so pivotal to us, the beating heart of our side, the driving force, the inspirational captain, our best player by a distance.

Yes we'd get a decent fee for him but is money really an issue for us under Gamechanger? No it isn't. Yes we'd probably be able to pick up another strong CM from somewhere but I don't think it would be to Morsy's level in the Championship.

Two things I hope happen that stops this from coming to fruition, the first is can this really be a true story ? I mean look at the players going over there and the names being signed? How many Championship players do you see ? None, that's how many, I'm dubious there is much credibility in it. The other is that if there is mileage in it how strong is Morsy in his thoughts towards a country who's human rights etc are pretty damn awful, I believe he's a clean living human with very strong morals.

Whilst Sam is English he has Egyptian blood and historically there is a strong connection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore 80% of Egyptians think favourably towards Saudi which could make Sam a better fit into their culture than many other English players considering making the move.
If there is any truth in the rumour it may well be that he’s been target because of his Arab links as I suspect Riyad Mahrez was too. Some of these guys are very proud of their Arab roots and excited to see the region establish itself on the football map of the world. You only have to look at their performance at last years World Cup.

As for clean living and human rights etc, you won’t find a cleaner living family man with higher morals than Jordon Henderson who I know has thought long and hard about about his decision before deciding to go through with it.

I think we can forget about relying on players morals as most will believe sport and politics have to be kept separate. I’m sure it helps them mentally deal with their conscience when the rewards are tax free and life changing, in Jordons case circa £55m for a 3 year contract with free living accommodation.

I think I know what I would do if I was 32 and in the twilight years of my career.

Being selfish all we can hope for is that in Sams case it’s m nothing more than rumour but I suspect otherwise as he would be a perfect fit and wow, what an opportunity for a professional like him who hasn’t collected huge rewards throughout his career so far.

I just find it all a bit galling when only six weeks ago he wanted to see out the rest of his career here, of course that may still happen but if there is truth in the rumours he is probably gonna be gone which massively changes my perspective on the upcoming season, he's that important to us.

End of the day its just rumours, Morsy has nothing to do with these and its just either the agent being a fanny or the press throwing their usual tripe about.

We will soon see if there is any backbone to these and no doubt MA & KM will be already prepared for a plan B just in case :-)

Do not want him to either as he is the workhorse and linchpin to our squad, but if he does go we cannot blame him.

No brainer for Pigott to move on, just hasn't happened and the lad just wasn't as good as I thought he was.

Didn't see that coming! Would have thought they want higher profile players, however IF he does leave I would understand, IMO its very different to the Neves one as Morsy has only been earning good money here and can earn great money there, Neves was already earning great money and wanted 'silly' money.

If he leaves though there will be a decent fee, millions etc, which the club will re-invest in a decent replacement. Yes it would be a pain but no player is bigger than the club and I'm sure for 3m+ we could get a similar level player with a lower age.

Of course I love SM and hope he stays though, he is very important for us.

He would certainly be a massive challenge to find an equal or better replacement but nobody in life is ever irreplaceable.

What would be an interesting discussion is who we think was the last Town player to be of equal importance to the team as Sam Morsy is now ?

I think this is worthy of a pre season topic to debate.

With you Mike. Sounds like BS. Could Norwich trolls rocking the “powering forward” boat.
The Mo Salahs, Jordan Hendersons & Sam Morsys? Out of place just a tad.

Well I've just been told that apparently Sam Morsy was on Talksport this morning and supposedly said all the rumours are news to him and his focus is completely on Ipswich, so believe what you will. I think I'll try and find it on Talksport myself

Town skipper Sam Morsy says reports of interest in him from Saudi Arabian clubs was news to him and that his full focus is on the season ahead at Portman Road.

Last night, it was reported that a number of Saudi clubs were keen on Morsy but he says that’s not something he’s aware of.

“It was news to me, really,” he told talkSPORT. “Obviously my full focus this season [is on Town], it’s an incredible project, the fans have taken to me unbelievably well [from] the moment I got here and I’m just really enjoying this project.

“I think there’s always been a bit of a loose link due to the fact that I’ve represented Egypt and played for my national team, so there’s always been a bit of a loose link there.

“But no, all focus is on this season, I’m really excited, the fans are really excited and we really want to attack it and give them a team to be proud of this season.”

Has the claims of a possible big money move to the Middle East led to any banter in the dressing room?

“I’m sure there will be this morning,” the 31-year-old added. “But no, like I said, it was news to me. It must have been a slow transfer market if my name was linked.

“Like I said, there have been loose links since I started to play for the national team but the full focus [is on] this season and trying to lead the lads in a certain way, trying to have a really good season.

“It’s really exciting, in the area. The fans have really missed it, the fans are right behind the club and we feel that we’re building something really special.”

Quizzed on whether winning back-to-back promotions might be a possibility, Morsy said it's too early to be looking that far ahead.

“We’ve been really enjoying pre-season,” he continued. “A couple of new players have come in, we’re probably expecting a few more to come in as well. We’re just working as hard as we can every day.

“The ambition last season was to become a really good team, and it’s the same this season. We want to be a really good team, a close-knit team, we want to represent our values and our football club.

“It’s probably a little bit too early in terms of aspirations, where you want to be. It’s a long, long season, but if we can bring in the right players and the players can gel right, then we have to aim to finish as high as we can.”

Morsy, who joined the Blues from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2021, has another two years left on his Town contract, promotion to the Championship having triggered a clause in the new deal he signed last summer giving him an additional season.
Rest easy, bullshit as expected.

Great signing for someone, just we have way too many CM's already and dont need one for 1 year (i.e player of such age).

Players player of the year 2009-2010
When at Ipswich last time but we do not need a player of his age in the team IMO .
