That says to me they would count in our squad numbers, which is odd as ive never understood it to be that way before.

Not sure how you understand this though…..I’d heard they do count ….then I saw this ….how do you interpret this ?

25 Players
Clubs in the Championship shall be permitted to name up to a maximum of 25 Players, of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player. Under 21 players (other than those who are on loan at the Club) do not need to be named on the Squad List to be eligible to participate in a League Match.

It reads pretty clear to me Liz that Under 21 players ONLY count if they’re on loan from other Clubs whereas Home Grown U21 players don’t count.

I guess it’s to prevent a club overloading its squad with U21 loanee’s with little chance of them getting any game time.

Yip, that’s how I read it too btw. Which is why I’ve said that if we bring in these three players Trusty, Hutchinson, Raj ? Then must surely have to offload…..I think it’s going to be a busy week or so with a lot happening all at once. I said this a while ago.

It seems to read that a club's own under 21s don't count but those under 21 on loan do. I don't know if that can be right though.

From what KMc is saying tonight we might not strengthen the defence.

Town were forced to field players out of position due to the absences of defenders Harry Clarke, George Edmundson and Janoi Donacien, but McKenna says he’s not looking to add players in that area of the squad just to increase numbers.

“We’re not far away all over the pitch, to be honest,” he reflected. “We don’t need to bring bodies in, we don’t need to buffer it out with defenders, we have good centre-halves, we’ve got people who can play centre-half, we have two good full-backs in each position, so we don’t need to bring bodies in and buffer out the squad.

“But if there’s quality that we can add that can improve us and add different qualities, then we want to do that, and we’re looking to do that.

“It’s not so much about a numbers issue, the squad’s in a good place but we want to improve from a position of strength, push forward and we’ve said all along we’re going to try and do that in this window.”

If what I’ve read this evening is correct 19 year old Londoner Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea could be the first to arrive, possibly as soon as tomorrow. 👍

Exciting times for Ipswich Town Football Club.

I think you could be right Dazza. McKenna said ( re transfers)…. “I know they’ve been working on some things this week, there were some things a little bit close”….. he’s talking in the plural ! :D

A great addition to the squad.

Good news I just hope the Palace lad Rak- Sakyi does not go to another Championship club especially that lot up the road 😂

With Broadhead and Hutchinson on board who needs Rak-Sakyi? got to think of the wages bill too :-)

If Hutchinson signs think I will wait until I see how things go before making any judgement on him. I believe it will be his first loan and it will be interesting to see how he fits in. I remember when Louie Barrie signed on loan, many Villa fans rated him highly and reckoned we had got a gem on our hands. Things certainly didn’t work out for him here and since then he has had loan spells at Swindon, MK Dons and Salford.

I think Hutchinson is vastly different to Barry Tony.

Mike, tbh I don’t know anything about the lad except for what I’ve read in the past week or so since it became apparent of our interest in him. I’m just concerned that some fans are expecting him to come straight in and tear up the league. As I said I believe it will be his first loan spell and he may very well need time to settle.

Yes I agree, I'm not sure who is saying he's gonna tear up the league as I've not seen that, but his grounding and background suggests he is going to have a decent career, of course he is young and has stuff to learn but just watching his highlights etc Says to me he is going to be a very capable addition to our squad. I don't think he'll even be a starter for a while

Just seen this as well. If there is anything in this would the club stand in the way of Sam securing a life changing contract? Hopefully it’s just his agent putting things out to hurry up us offering him a new contract.Think he has just a year left on his current contract.

Certainly would be a major blow for us. Not just for his playing ability but more importantly he is such a great leader for the team. If there is any truth in this rumour the club would have a major decision to make.
