Cameron Burgess
I know we have all be raving about Morsy, Luongo, Hirst and other players but would just like to give a shout out for this lad. During this winning run imo he has been tremendous and for me is the most improved player this season. When you consider the injury he had and to come back like he has it has been really impressive. Even after the injury he still is prepared to put his head in where it hurts and never ducks a challenge. Just feel that his contribution often goes unnoticed amongst some fans.
Well done Cameron and keep up the good work.

Re: Cameron Burgess
Yep, good shout, undoubtedly the best CB at the club and gives his all, was doubting him a few months Back but back then the whole defence was shakey.
If and when we do go up I am thinking Central defence is the area needing most improvements, whether that means another top CB to partner Burgess remains to be seen but it does seem odd to be questioning the defence given the amount of clean sheets accrued, also KM clearly likes Woolfy and I have to admit in recent games Woolfy has for the most part been excellent.

Here here! Big, strong and immense, since that nasty injury he has come back and been a real force at the back, also Woolfy, we were slating him poor bugger for a while but he seems to have come on a lot since KM and staff have worked their magic (and I dare say Morsy, Keezy and lads have helped too).
I was tad worried at the Barnsley game when their goalie used him as a cushion, glad he got up and all is well.

Re: Cameron Burgess
Don't know if anyone else picked up on it or not but it proved to me players actually do read online stuff like forums etc because when Woolfy was interviewed after the Barnsley game he actually said " not bad for a defender who can't defend " when asked about the run of clean sheets and his part in it. I think he was referring to Hallam's posts !!!!

Mike, I’m sure a lot of them do have a peep to see what is being said. No doubt they have a lot of banter on a Monday morning between each other saying “ have you seen what they have said about you on TB’s, You’re sh*t and you know you are”!

I'm surprised half of us are allowed in the stadium if the players/club do read our posts!

Re: Cameron Burgess
You watch his face drop if you turn up at Colchester!
Bit more back to the Burgess discussion... The players are obviously loving life at the moment, dismantling teams like they have helps, but I think it could be a lot more than that. I do think that McKenna and the coaching team are really bringing out the best of the players, individual improvements have been great it seems and that's pretty evident in defence. If as a player you had coaches that were really identifying your weaknesses and giving you tools to overcome them, then that must be really exciting and positive.
I often wonder whether a lot a players don't want to be promoted, they like their place in the team, they like their teammates, that can be jeopardised with a promotion. I have felt at times that that has held us back over the last few years. So you really have to sell it to them, say look, no promises, but we can turn you in to a championship level performer, work on yourself and establish yourself as that and part of this team up a tier. I don't know what I'm going on about really, but it feels like McKenna and his lot have really installed some belief and ambition in to these players. Maybe it's just all the wins making things look rosy, but feels pretty special potentially.

To add to that, the smiles from the likes of Edwards and Ladapo when the team wins is great to see. Ladapo fell out and went sour in his last club, so to see the squad wanting to win together, despite some seeing their playing time and place in the team reduced with the January signings is great to see. Obviously someone is taking some care in that regard, which has been missing in recent years and managers it seems.

I suppose you could say his initials are his calling. When we signed him, I thought he would do well at this level. He stuttered at first and then got his injury. Now I think the engine is well tuned and he's showing up every game.

That's actually a very good point, I've often thought the same where players risk being moved on following promotion etc, it has to go through their minds, move house, new Town, new school for the kids, uproot the wife etc etc, as you say though thankfully we don't seem to have this issue going on.Ricco wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 10:16 amYou watch his face drop if you turn up at Colchester!

Re: Cameron Burgess
A lot of truth in many of these posts; it looks like we have decent coaches now who are improving the players individually and as a unit.
However I do agree with Bluemike that (assuming we get promoted) the defence will need strengthening. They have been fairly solid, aided by some poor finishing and some excellent saves from Walton. I remember saying years ago that the way to get promotion is to attack, but once promoted you must consolidate the defence. In my opinion that’s where Norwich always went wrong. Attacked, scored, got promoted. Carried on it the same vein at a higher level but goals are harder to come by and they never improved the defence so they could concede fewer.
We’ve pretty well achieved the first part - we’ve attached and we are almost over the line. We will need to be tighter next season.

Re: Cameron Burgess
I think Kieron’s coaching staff have to take huge credit for getting us where we are now, but of course that all leads back to the man who recruited them…. Kieron McKenna, in my opinion thd best manager at ITFC since the great man himself SBR.
