Town and televised games this season - potentially?

Post by hallamblue » Sun Jun 25, 2023 8:21 am

Just thought I’d post this fans post , as he raises some possibilities re Town snd televised games altering our usual Sat ko’s . I think he has done valid points ….. anyway here’s what he said :

“ The TV deal announced in May https://www.efl.com/news/2023/
says that there will be a minimum of 328 Championship games scheduled, with 5 matches each weekend, so that means around 3 weekday matches per week. They also said that they will announce all the scheduled fixtures up to the FAC 3rd round before the season starts.

With a maximum of 12 matches on a Saturday, presumably that means we can expect quite a few of the Saturday matches to move to either a Friday night or a Sunday. I'm expecting Leeds (H) to get selected and move to either the Friday or the Sunday.

This is gonna get messy. “

I will add he was corrected by couple of other posters who said this new deal doesn’t start this season but next …. But when it does come in it’ll cause a lot of disruption….

A Response says ….

“Looking at this season, we have thirteen non-Saturday/Sunday fixtures, a mixture of scheduled midweek games (8) and those that are played at Xmas / New Year and Easter (5). All of these would be live under the new deal. If you add in the opening day and final day of the season, then that is 15 rounds of fixtures (180 matches).

That leaves around 150 additional live fixtures across 31 weekends, so around 5 per week.

It will be disruptive, with a 40% chance each week that we are not kicking off at 3pm on Saturday.

For the first half of the season, the moved matches will be known when the fixtures are released and there is a commitment to give clubs earlier notice of when they are playing.“

Only a matter of time before the 3pm TV blackout gets dropped.

I’m really keen to know how our own new TV channel will work with ref to live games. Eg is it going to be possible to watch games live? If it is , I’d rather put money into TownTv than bloody Sky.

All non 3pm sat games will be live if in UK, if outside of the Uk (virtually or physically) then all games will be live, perhaps not just ones selected for sky

Just hope we never get to the Premier League, cus this is nothing in comparison.

VPN's are gonna be very popular this coming season .

I’m pretty certain our own TV Channel will be a straight replacement for ifollow and show all games live regardless of ko times. You guys in the UK who don’t have tickets for games just have to hope the new TV Channel technology isn’t able to detect the use of a vpn. At the moment my main interest is what the cost will be as watching sport on tv is getting very expensive especially for those of us with broad interests in sport.

Yes but only those chosen for sky, ie not 3pm sat games. Essentially you are hiring use of sky tv channels for 24 hours

I’m just hoping I can buy a TownTv annual subscription but more likely that won’t include a match day pass, so maybe a Season Ticket to include all matches ? ... although I’m not sure if that would include games covered by Sky which may be black out games.

Whatever it is i’m sure all will be revealed very soon.
