Unfortunately Brexit has made it much more difficult and far more complicated to bring in players from Europe who were previously allowed almost uncontrolled under the freedom of movement laws. This particularly affects clubs outside the Premier League who can no longer take a punt on lesser know or even unknown talent such as Riyad Marez when he signed for Leicester.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Ah that’s interesting- as I’ve seen a few championship clubs sign random foreign players recently? Bbc sport’s championship page has a few examples.
I do recall what you were saying though, something about harder to sign from Europe but easier outside Europe now.

Probably why scum are doing their shopping in South America : they’ve got some scouts living out there!Charnwood wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:49 pmUnfortunately Brexit has made it much more difficult and far more complicated to bring in players from Europe who were previously allowed almost uncontrolled under the freedom of movement laws. Re: Transfer Rumours
One of the problems now is that any player coming from the EU has to get a work permit and as a general rule of thumb, players need to have made a certain percentage of appearances for their national team over a two-year period before the application is made. The higher the FIFA ranking of the national side, the lower the percentage of appearances needed.
This in affect stops clubs shopping around in the second tier of any European League, thus preventing scouts looking for unknown talent such as the extreme example I used of Riyad Mahrez who Leicester found lurking in the Second Tier of French football at Le Havre where he’d made only 60 senior appearances when he signed for Leicester City for just £450k.
He made his first International appearance 4 months after signing for Leicester City.

I remember being told by Charlie Woods our Chief Scout at the time that ITFC had a vast scouting network in Argentina. I’m sure these contacts could be resurrected if required.hallamblue wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 9:30 pmProbably why scum are doing their shopping in South America : they’ve got some scouts living out there!Charnwood wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:49 pmUnfortunately Brexit has made it much more difficult and far more complicated to bring in players from Europe who were previously allowed almost uncontrolled under the freedom of movement laws. Feel kind of sorry for Pigott. Think he’s a good league one player, but not the Championship. If Camara regains health & fitness, he’s worth keeping on the books temporarilyCharnwood wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 10:43 pmLatest Update on two of our own.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Pigott moving on will only be good news for ITFC and no doubt the majority of fans. Witnessed the lad on various occasions past couple years using the £10 tv pass. Wish him well, but no good for Ipswich.

Ashton Trusty left footed centre back played 44 games on loan at Birmingham from Arsenal last season, Wiki (I know) saying Ipswich Town number 32.

Re: Transfer Rumours
Worrying reading, Hirst possibly outpricing himself again and I mean Matty Godden ? Really ? Don't believe it tbh, would rather keep Pigott. I do wonder who the other striker is though, at least we are looking at Two more. There is lots of activity behind the scenes at Portman Road but little that makes for easy reading. Apparently, one striker is stalling on a potential deal, and Town have turned their attention to another forward who is now top of their wish list.
And there is some substance to that George Hirst speculation. Town are still trying to get that one over the line apparently, and negotiations are still ongoing. The same can be said for another striker that Ipswich have had on their radar for some time. This transfer window so far feels like we are watching paint dry but progress is being made.
Now there are reports that Ipswich are showing interest in Matty Godden from Coventry City who hasn’t always been fully fit for the Sky Blues in his time at the club. So then, why should Ipswich take a striker who is seen as second-string for a club that is now in our division! I don’t think this would be a clever move, but in the second tier, he scored 12 times in 24 matches – which equates to a goal every two matches.
News that Town has confirmed the signing of New Zealand U20s international keeper Henry Gray on a two-year deal is encouraging, and our other keeper Woody Williamson has also penned a new two-year deal with the Blues and that’s good. With the signing of City keeper Ciaran Slicker, we can probably expect Czech keeper Vaclav Hlady to be on his way. A keeper’s life is about game time – wherever that might be.

Ipswich Town are eyeing up Arsenal man Auston Trusty among a number of other centre-backs, the EADT has said.
Trusty comes into this summer window off the back of a fantastic loan spell with Birmingham City last season.
The left-footed defender was a huge hit at St. Andrew’s, playing 48 times across all competitions as either a centre-back or left-back. The success of his loan has seen his stock rise massively, with many intrigued to see what could be next for the American.
Now, a new report from the EADT has said that Trusty has emerged on Ipswich Town’s radar.
The Tractor Boys have cash to splash after their return to the Championship and they’re weighing up a number of potential centre-back targets, Trusty included. More options at the heart of defence are needed at Portman Road and a move for Arsenal man Trusty would be a real statement signing for Town as they gear up for second-tier football.
Ipswich Town aren’t just looking to take part on their return to Championship football. They boast a squad many believe is capable of succeeding right off the bat and adding Trusty to the mix could really take their backline to the next level.
Luke Woolfenden, George Edmundson and Cameron Burgess are all strong options at centre-back. Burgess is the only left-footer and while he’s proven himself as a more than trustworthy performer in that role, Trusty would be a big upgrade.

Re: Transfer Rumours
The narrow-minded me says 'he was a CB in a side that finished 17th' - but I'm sure he could be good and sounds good in the sense he can play LB, as the way we play with Davies so high the Left CB tends to need to know the LB role a little and cover that area. It's why Burges did so well as he has played alot as LCB in a back 3 in previous clubs.

The more I read about Trusty the more I think he would be a very good signing, not sure we'd get him for 2 Million though.

Re: Transfer Rumours
With Trusty linked does this mean Edmunson and Leigh could possibly be at risk? or it could be just backup as Baggott is going out on loan maybe.
With these rumours at least we are getting some kind of confirmation that things are going on in the background, hopefully things can be sorted sound so gives the lads a few weeks to try and get team shape and playing together in motion.
Also seen that Stoke are sniffing around Trusty too.

Trusty wouldn't come as back up, pretty sure of that. Rangers are rumoured to have had 2 Million bid in.

Re: Transfer Rumours
We need four CB’s, and Baggot is already set for a loan (ie the club confirmed it will go out when a club is found).
Leigh will remain hopefully as backup to Davies.
